She was so happy that tears of joy ran down her face. Jauquin turned and looked at her. He smiled happily.

“Dingo says “hi.” He said to her quietly. Saba was speechless she was both happy and confused. Dingo? Her brother?

“Saba?” Jauquin asked. “Will you be my mate?”

“Of course.” Saba said happily. “But we must never tell anyone.”

Jauquin nodded.

6 months later

Jauquin and Saba sat in the boiler room talking to one another. Jauquin was just fine now with out a scratch on him.

“Jauquin.” Saba looked at him seriously.

“Yes?”

“When you “woke up” that day, you said that Dingo said “hi” what did you mean?”

Jauquin turned his head then looked towards his mate.

“Well I can’t explain what happened. I remember being in this wonderful place, like a dream kinda. And saw Dingo. I told him that I had intentions of saving him life and he told me that he understood. Then there was this bright glow of light around me and I was fading. The last thing I remember Dingo saying was “Tell me sis I said hi” and I woke up with you by my side.”

Saba was again speechless. She believed every word of it. Instead of words Saba nuzzled Jauquin. He began licking her ear. Jauquin knew he was sent to save him. After a while it was getting late and Saba had to go back to the boat. They said their goodbyes and Jauquin went into a corner and fell asleep not knowing that Kodi and Kirby where watching their every move in the boiler room.

“Oh this is two good to be true.” Kirby said and began walking away.

“Where are you going?” Kodi asked.

“Going to spread the word.”

“We can’t do that to them.” Kodi whispered “My dad will never approve of him. Promise me that you’ll never tell of them together.” His face got up in Kirby’s.

“Ok.” Kirby said coyly

CHAPTER 5

That morning Jauquin woke up in a weird position. His paw was asleep and he had to walk it off. While he was walking around Nome some of the dogs looked at him funny. He felt something bite his tail and pull him back.

“What the he-” he was stunned to see Jake standing above and looked at him.

“You think it will be ok loving my girl?!” Jake demanded.

Jauquin bared his teeth. “Saba is not your girl!” Jauquin snarled.

He got up and started walking off. But Jake slammed his paw on Jauquin’s tail forcing him to sit.

“I think she is.” Jake said softly. Jauquin was ticked

“Let go of me.” He snarled and bit Jakes leg. Jake cried out. The dogs of Nome where starting to form a crowd. One of Jakes friends joined in and bit Jauquin. Jauquin howled in pain which left his neck exposed. Jake bit down on Jauquin’s thought.

He bit down on Jakes ear and pulled has hard as he could. Jake let go of Jauquin and pulled away. Jauquin didn’t let go instead he ripped half of Jakes ear off.

Jauquin tumbled backwards with a part of Jakes ear in his jaws. He looked around.

The crowd of dogs looked at him startlingly.

Jakes friend stepped forward.

“Get out of town!” he exclaimed. Jauquin dropped the piece of ear and ran.

“That’s right; get out of here you husky trash!” One of the dogs called.

CHAPTER 6

Jauquin woke up with a jolt. He was breathing heavily and his heart was pounding. He looked around and realized it was all a dream. He noticed his paw was numb but instead of walking it off he just shook his paw. He got up and stretched, he was surprised to see Saba standing in the doorway.

She looked upset. Jauquin walked up to her.

“Saba what’s wrong?” Jauquin asked while nuzzling her. Saba pulled away.

“Hun, you might want to sit down for this.” She said calmly. Jauquin sat down.

“Why what’s wrong?” He asked. She hesitated for a moment then opened her mouth to talk.

“I…I’m going to have a litter of pups.” She said. Jauquin lowered his head and moved his shoulders a bit then raised his head again.

“Saba, we’ve only been mates for a month.” He said. He knew he shouldn’t be ashamed but somehow he had felt like he had done something wrong.

Saba nodded.

“I know.” She said. Jauquin got up and nuzzled her.

“I have to go run the mail.” He said.

“Ok.” Saba replied, they both left. On the walk to Jauquin’s “job” neither Saba nor Jauquin said a word to each other. When they got the post office they were harnessed and ready to go. After they loaded the mail Saba watched them leave.

Jauquin’s stomach was in knots he was both excited and upset. He thought long and hard on the subject.

“Hey do you think you could speed it up back there?!” called one of the dogs on the team. Jauquin knew it was directed at him because the dog was staring strait at him.

“Sorry” Jauquin panted. He worked his legs faster and harder but remained pondering about the subject.

Saba lived with her father and what if she had her pups there? Did Balto already know? Would Balto be waiting for him in the boiler room, ready to tear him apart?

He couldn’t leave Saba, he could never leave her and he was a fool to think such a thing. He loved her with all his heart and nothing could take him away from her. Not even death itself, he would always return to her.

All his hard thinking caused him to skip a stride which sent the team tumbling. The mail, basket, musher and dogs went sliding do to Jauquin.

Kodi went to retrieve the mail while the others scolded Jauquin’s stupidity.

“Thanks a lot rookie.” Kirby said angrily. Jauquin got up and shook the snow off him.

“If you didn’t tell me to pick up the pace I wouldn’t have skipped a stride.” Jauquin growled.

“Are you looking for a fight?!” Kirby growled.

“Bring it on!” Jauquin snarled, his face pressed against Kirby’s. Dusty managed to squeeze her was in between Jauquin and Kirby.

“Guys, Guys we need to ack like a team.” She said. Jauquin backed away but kept his eyes on Kirby. Kirby did just the same.

The musher got everything settled and the set off again.

CHAPTER 7

When Jauquin and the others came back from delivering the mail and they got off their harnesses Jauquin was pushed by one of the teammates.

“Oops I skipped a step.” He laughed. It was Buck; Buck was one of the last two dogs on the team.

Jauquin snarled. The two got into an argument. Saba tried breaking it up but Buck pushed her out of the way. Jauquin ran over to Saba and helped her up. Buck walked away looking rather please with himself.

Jauquin snarled and jumped at Buck. He bit Buck on the back. Buck fell with a yelp.

“Get off of me.” He snarled. Buck turned and bit Jauquin’s paw. Jauquin didn’t yelp nor did he cry out, instead he snarled even louder and bit down on Buck’s face. Granted his mouth wasn’t big enough and Buck was whimpering badly.

“This will be the last time you push my mate, or any other female of Alaska.” Jauquin snarled as he stood over Buck and pressed his front paw against Buck’s windpipe and pressed down as hard as possible. Buck was gasping for air.

Buck slowly died and Jauquin did not ease up one bit. As soon as Buck died Jauquin backed off.

“Let this be a lesson to all of you!” Jauquin shouted to the gathering crowd of dogs “If I catch you hurting a female dog anywhere I will kill you!”

The dogs backed out of his way as he walked to the boiler room.

Bucks brother, Jake saw his body lying lifeless. He looked up and saw Jauquin walking away.

“By all means possible I’ll get you back for this Jauquin.”

Jauquin returned to the boiler room and saw Saba cleaning two new born pups.

“Hello, Jauquin.” She said softly

“Saba.” Jauquin said shockingly. He slowly walked up to them and nuzzled Saba.

“Jauquin, I have something to tell you.”

“What?”

“All of Nome knows about us.” Jauquin’s world went darker. He knew that she wouldn’t have told. He flashed back to the time when he and Kirby were arguing. It was Kirby! He must have told.

9 weeks later

Jauquin walked into the boiler room and was surprised to see that Jake and his friend in the boiler room with Saba and the pups. Jake was with the pups and was holding them down with his front paws. Jake’s friend was standing over Saba with her teeth bared.

“Let us go!” one of the pups shouted

“You ba-” Jauquin was interrupted.

“What’s the matter Jauquin?” Jake interrupted. “You killed my brother I think its only fair that I put you in this position. Tell me who’s the one you are going to save? Your mate or your pups?”

CHAPTER 8

Jauquin looked over to Jake; he continued to lick the pups. His eyes flickered over to Saba and Jake’s friend, Jake’s friend was about to tear out her thought. If he attacked Jake’s friend Jake would kill the pups but if he attacked Jake his friend will kill Saba.

“What do you want?” Jauquin said while lowering his head. Jake quit grooming the pups.

“You have two options, none of which will be easy. I want Saba.” Jake’s head turned to Saba then back to Jauquin.

“No!” Jauquin snarled.

“Or you die.” Jauquin opened his mouth to speak but was silenced by Jake.

“Without a fight. If you do struggle I will kill
