2 years later.
“Mom, kodi’s been teasing me; he says that I won’t make the sled dog team!” Dingo pleaded.
“Kodiak, come here!” Jenna called.
Kodi grunted and walked towards her with his head low and tail between his legs.
“Don’t tease your brother Kodi, just please both of you just stop fighting all the time.”
Dingo snorted. “He always starts fights”
Jenna rolled her eyes and walked down the beach.
“See, look what you did bone head, you upset mom!” Kodi snapped.
Dingo snarled. “Zip it!” he snorted and walked down the beach.
Dingo walked into town and to the sled dogs’ running track. He sat down on a fence and watched the huskies train for their race. Dingo sighed as he watched them.
“I can be just as good!” he thought and ran down the track as fast as he could. Kodi caught up with him. “What, do, you, think, your, doing?” kodi said in between breaths.
Dingo snorted and ran faster. Kodi skidded to a halt. “No stop, you will go over the cliff! You’re not on the track!!”
Dingo looked over his shoulder but by the time he skidded to stop he fell over the cliff.
He grabbed the edge with his claws but he was slipping…
Kodi raced towards him “Hold on!”
Dingo slipped and fell down the cliff. “Nooooooooo!!!” shouted Kodi.
Dingo stood up from the bottom and looked up. He shook his coat and sighed. Blood dripped from his back, he must have bashed against a rock on the way down.
He couldn’t climb up it was too steep. He walked away from the cliff and looked around. This field he was in felt familiar. He could smell scents he had smelled before.
Their was a house in the middle of the field. It felt strange being here. He backed away slowly. “Ooof! He tripped over something. He looked to see what it was and he saw a big black dog sleeping. He gasped and backed away. The scent he smelled didn’t sound friendly. The dog opened his yellow eyes and glared at him. He only had one ear that he flicked up. He slowly got up and walked towards him. “You runt!” he yelled and walked closer.
“What? I-I don’t understand…”
“You’re the runt that came to this house and ripped my ear off!” he growled.
Dingo gasped. “Rex!” he narrowed his eyebrows and glared angrily. He remembered Trick… and how his friend got killed.
Dingo snarled and his hairs stood up. He bared his fangs before he tackled Rex and pinned him down. “Stupid runt!” Rex shouted as he grabbed Dingo by the neck and threw him. He skidded across the floor and banged into a tree.
“I’m going to finish you off runt!” he yelled as he ran and tackled him.
Dingo collapsed to the ground exhorted.
Rex laughed and put his paw on his neck and crushed down.
Dingo whined and whimpered as he pushed harder. He felt his breathing stop and his throat clamped his eyes went small before he closed them.
“Get off him!” a voice called from behind. Rex looked back and saw Kodi running towards him. “Kodi?” Dingo said weakly.
Kodi snarled and tackled Rex before biting on his throat. Rex screamed and threw him off. Kodi skidded and crashed into Dingo.
Dingo slowly got up and ran towards Rex biting on his arm. Kodi jumped and scratched Rex’s face.
“Enough!!” a white dog walked out from the house.
“Kahana!” Rex said and pushed Dingo and Kodi off.
Dingo fell to the floor and stared at the beautiful white dog.
Kahana sighed and walked towards them.
“Papa, stop fighting” she said to Rex.
Rex snarled. “Fine! But I’ll get you two later” he whispered and walked away snarling.
Kahana smiled at Dingo and helped him up. “Hi, I’m Kahana, what’s your name?”
Dingo was in a trance, it took him a while to work out what she said. “Oh, Dingo” he said with a bit of embarrassment. Kahana giggled and wagged her tail.
“I’m Kodi” kodi said as he walked towards them.
“Hello Kodi” Kahana said politely.
“You stick with Dusty” Dingo whispered and laughed as Kodi grunted and went red.
“Did my papa hurt you two?” she asked and looked at them both.
Dingo grunted and walked away. “He killed my friend, when I was a pup” he called over his shoulder. Kodi and Kahana followed.
“I’m sorry about that; he’s really bad-tempered…” Kahana apologised on Rex’s behalf.
Dingo nodded and carried on walking. Kodi and Kahana joined him on his stroll.
“We better be going home now…” Dingo whispered and looked at Kahana.
Kahana nodded. “Well bye…” she said and licked his cheek politely.
Dingo felt his face glow red. He was very shy. “Ok well… erm… bye” he said and crashed into a tree.
Kahana laughed as she watched the shy dog trot away followed by Kodi.
They walked they walked around the mountain and back to the beach.
“Well I gotta go, my owner will be waiting for me” kodi said and galloped away.
“Bye!” Dingo called and he trotted up the ramp and in his father’s boat.
Aleu and Balto where laying beside each other fast asleep. Dingo smiled and lay down at the other end of the room.
The sun shone brightly in the sky as the next morning had woken.
Dingo was the first to wake up. He looked over the boat and stared at the sea.
“Hey Dingo!”
Dingo looked down and saw Kahana looking up at him wagging her tail on the beach.
“You playing out?” she said.
“You bet!” he yelled then jumped of the boat. He fell and landed on her pinning her down.
Kahana laughed and pushed sand at him before running away and trotting in the sea.
Dingo smiled and ran after her. When he caught up with her he pushed her in the sea.
Kahana laughed and splashed him. Both dogs where having a great time. Aleu woke up and joined Balto to watch them. “Oooh Dingo’s got a girlfriend” Aleu joked.
Dingo felt happy being with Kahana. They where best friends. But every night he thought about Trick, and what Rex done to him. He would go over there and kill him right now but he didn’t want to upset Kahana. He did not want to loose her friendship.
He lay awake at night and looked at the stars. He remembered Trick as being a hero. When he was a pup he looked up to him. But now he’s just a memory…
Dingo growled at his thoughts and ran out of the boat and down the beach.
He came to the house and saw Rex sleeping outside.
“Your gonna pay!” he whispered and crouched down low ready to attack.
Thoughts were running through his mind. Should he kill? Or shouldn’t he?
He sighed and stood up. He didn’t have the guts to kill him. He turned around and started to walk home.
“Oh no you don’t!” Rex called and grabbed Dingo’s leg tripping him up.
Dingo landed on his back and stared at Rex.
“Your not going anywhere runt!” Rex spat and grabbed his leg again and threw him.
Rex growled and charged at him. Dingo stood up and jumped out of the way.
Rex crashed into the tree. Blood dripped from his head. “Right! Your gonna die!” Rex shouted.
Dingo snarled and tackled him; pinning him down.
“No, you’re the one that’s gonna die!” Dingo yelled and bit into his throat hard.
Rex gave his final yelp before he dropped to the floor. Dingo snorted and licked the blood from his muzzle.
“W-what?!” Kahana stepped forward and knelt beside Rex.
Dingo widened his eyes. “It’s not what it looks like I swear, he attacked me first!”
Kahana stood up, her eyes misty with tears. Some streamed down her cheeks. She gave a loud mournful howl.
Dingo backed away. “How could you…?” Kahana yelled before running away.
“Kahana wait!!” Dingo shouted. But she ignored his calls and carried on running until out of sight.
Dingo sighed heavily and let tears drip down his face. “Kahana…” he whispered and walked away.
Rain poured from the sky. The clouds where grey and everything felt miserable.
Now, he had no friends, and no enemies.
“Why does everything I do always go wrong!!!!” He shouted as loud as he could.
Blood dripped from his head and mixed into the puddles. Tears streaming down his face.
He walked into the boat and lay down until the next morning.
“Morning son” Balto said cheerfully.
Dingo was laying down wide awake. He glanced at his dad and looked away.
Balto tilted his head and walked away. Dingo closed his eyes and felt a tear roll down his cheek. He walked to the village. Everyone he knew looked at him as if he was a stranger. Or yelling murderer.
Steele’s nephew Sarn walked over to him. “Was it true? You killed Kahana’s dad? She told everyone this morning.” He said and grinned.
Dingo snarled. “Back off Sarn!” he demanded.
“Or what? You’ll kill me?” he said sarcastically.
Dingo growled and bit Sarn’s throat. “I said back off!” he said as he dropped him.
Sarn snarled. “No one tells me what to do, punk!”
“Little shit” Dingo mumbled as he walked off.
Sarn growled and walked away.
Dingo walked over to
