Aniu the white wolf padded her big white paws in the thick blanket of snow. Her eyes firmly closed and her tail lightly tickling the snow beneath her. Little playful clouds blew across the pink sky. The smell of pine was in the air. Aniu took a deep breath and walked through a meadow. She opened her bright intelligent eyes and looked around listening to the sounds around her.
She stood tall and proud at the top of a hill to watch the world below.
“Hurry up Balto!” she called gently. A young pup came racing from his hiding place and pranced around his mother. Aniu smiled and nuzzled Balto’s little head. “It’s time to go young one” she said calmly. Balto tilted his head in confusion.
Aniu smiled and looked around again. 7 wolves walked up the snowy hill and stood before Aniu. “My pack, as you all know we are going to war with our enemy wolf clan.
And lives will be lost, so my mission is to take Balto far away from all this. I’m going to take him to Nome. Where he’ll be safe…” Aniu said as she held her head high.
“But, but he’s my son, you can’t take him away from me!” a young husky came out from the crowed of wolves.
“Kana, I know this is hard. It’s hard for me, but he’s our son and I don’t want him to get hurt ion this battle”
Kana paused for a moment. “Fair enough…” he knelt down beside Balto and nuzzled him. “Be strong” he whispered and looked at Aniu. “Keep both of you two safe, promise?” kana asked and sighed.
Aniu gracefully nodded and licked Kana’s face. “I promise” she picked Balto up gently in her jaws and ran down the hill.
She travelled far and wide in search of someone. But it was no use nobody would take him. She sat down near a river and put Balto down. “I’m hungry mom…” Balto whispered.
Aniu nodded. “There’s nothing to eat here” she replied. Balto yawned and sat down.
“There’s my brave lad” she said and nudged Balto closer to her and licked his chest.
An old goose waddled past Aniu and flapped his wings franticly. “Oh it’s no use!”
Aniu looked at him and walked over to the goose. “Erm… are you okay sir?”
“Yes quite fine, but I cannot fly south!”
Aniu looked at the sky then back at the goose. “Hey since you won’t be going south can you look after someone for me? He’s called Balto”
The goose looked at her. “Who might that be-aaaaaah!” the goose screamed and looked behind him. Balto plucked the goose’s tail feathers. Balto looked at him and grinned. “Him?” the goose asked and grabbed his feathers from Balto’s mouth.
Aniu nodded. “I’d be so grateful Mr…?”
“Boris” the goose said.
“Mr Boris” Aniu repeated.
“Ok ok I’ll look after him”
Aniu smiled “Oh thank you!” she licked Balto’s face then walked away, disappearing in the mist
Balto looked at Boris and yawned. “Hmm, I better get you inside, follow me”
Balto tilted his head and looked around; a loud howl came from the mist. Balto grinned then ran after Boris.
He led Balto to a boat stranded in the beach. “Home sweet home!” Boris said and grinned.
Boris walked up the ramp then into the deck. He grabbed a mop and mopped the wooden floor.
Balto sniffed around and looked at the sea. “Uncle Boris can I go and play?”
Boris paused for a moment. “You called me uncle…” he said and smiled. “Ok”
“Yeah!” balto yelled and ran out of the boat and to the beach.
A red and white husky was in the sea. Balto pinned his ears up and walked over to her.
The husky turned and looked at him. “Hi” she said and giggled.
“H-hi” balto whispered.
“Are you new here? Because I never saw you around before.
“Yeah, I stay with my uncle Boris”
“Oh ok I’m called Jenna, what’s your name?”
“B-balto”
Jenna giggled and ran around him. “Wanna play Balto?”
“Yeah!” he replied and pounced on her. Both pups tumbled to the sand.
“Well isn’t this a pretty pitcher” a black and white husky trotted over to them.
Jenna rolled her eyes. “Zip it Steele”
Steele smirked. “Who’s this?” he asked and nodded to Balto.
“That’s Balto; he’s new here so give him a break ok?” Jenna said.
Steele laughed “He looks like a wolf” he spat.
Balto narrowed his eyebrows and frowned.
Jenna sighed. “C’mon Balto, lets go play elsewhere” she said and trotted off. Balto followed.
Steele frowned and snarled. “I wouldn’t play with a wolf dog Jenna, he might eat you!” he yelled and laughed at his own joke.
“Ugh ignore him Balto, he’s such a bully” Jenna sighed.
Balto nodded. “I better be going now; my girl will be needing me…” Jenna whispered and trotted off.
“Erm... Bye Jenna!” balto called before trotting back to the boat. “Uncle Boris, Uncle Boris!” Balto called as he raced in the boat.
“What is it?” Boris asked as he stood his mop in the corner.
“I met this girl, she’s called Jenna!”
“Oh, Jenna? I know her, she lives down the village with rosy” Boris replied
Balto wagged his tail. “And who is Steele?”
“Steele? He lives in the village too. He’s training to be a sled dog”
“A sled dog?” balto asked curiously.
“Sled dogs race up and down Nome to find the fastest dog”
“Wow…” balto said and looked at the sea.
Boris grinned and patted Balto’s head. “Time to sleep” Boris said and walked into a cabin of the boat. “Follow me”
Balto grinned and ran after him. Boris picked up a blue blanket and placed it on top of Balto. “Time to sleep” he whispered and walked out of the cabin.
“Good night Uncle Boris!” Balto shouted and closed his eyes firmly.
3 years later
Balto was young healthy male. Nearly an adult he never saw Jenna since they where young, he forgot all about her..
He opened his eyes and ran out of the cabin.
“I’m going to see the sled dogs race, Boris!” Balto shouted and ran down the ramp and across the beach. He entered the village and sat on a fence.
“Get your dog’s ready… on your marks… get set… GO!” a man yelled and all the dogs raced off.
Balto smirked and Jumped of the fence and followed the dogs.
“What are you doing here wolf dog?” Steele hissed. Balto didn’t say anything he just ran.
Steele snarled and pushed into him. Balto skidded on the ice and fell over. All the sled dogs began to laugh. “You should have stayed with your pack wolf dog!” Steele shouted and rushed off with the dogs following still laughing.
Balto stood up and shook the snow off his coat. “I will win someday!!” Balto shouted feeling a tear go down his cheek. His tail went between his legs and his ears and head were lowered.
He walked slowly through the village watching people chuckle at him as he walked past.
He jumped up a fence and sat down. Flicking his tail and watching the sled dogs run across the snow. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he closed his eyes firmly.
Why won’t anyone except me for who I am?...” he whispered to himself.
“Balto?” a voice called behind him. Balto turned round and saw the red and white husky staring at him. “Jenna?” he called.
Jenna wagged her tail and barked. Balto howled and jumped down the fence, prancing around her. “I’ve never saw you in years!!” he yelled happily.
Jenna grinned and watched him. Balto slipped and crashed into her, their muzzles and faces almost touching. Balto felt his face go red. He quickly got up and looked around.
Jenna giggled and licked his face playfully. Balto felt his face go even redder.
“Jenna do you want to catch flees? Because you will with that wolf dog around you” Steele said and walked up to them. Balto snarled and walked over to Steele.
“Don’t you snarl at me Wolf!” Steele hissed and glared at him.
“Back off Steele” Jenna mumbled. “You don’t need to start fights” she continued.
“Get away from that flee bag Jenna you deserve better, someone like… hmm, me?” Steele demanded.
“You are so full of it Steele” Jenna said and rolled her eyes.
Balto snarled and walked away. “Don’t turn your back at me wolf!”
“Oh yeah? Well what are you gonna do about it?” balto said and carried on walking.
“This!” Steele hissed then grabbed him by his throat and threw him. Balto skidded across the snow and crashed into some bins.
“Score!” Steele yelled and laughed “You can’t beat me wolf” he remarked and trotted away.
“Balto!” Jenna shouted and ran over to him. “Oh are you okay?”
“I’m fine” balto mumbled and stood up. “I’m gonna go…” he said and limped away from her.
“Balto wait! Balto!” Jenna called but he just ran around the corner.
He ran to the beach and into the boat under his blue blanket to sob.
Boris came in. “Oh… are you ok?” he said and sat
