It was the adoption day that changed his life. him and his brothers and sisters were being sold.
“Dad, will someone choose me?”
“Of course someone will want you, and you will have a nice caring family and home”
“Will I ever see you again dad?”
Balto paused for a moment. “Sure you will.” He said as his eyes steamed up with tears, but did not dare let them fall.
Dingo smiled and raced then pounced on Aleu playfully “Ha ha got ya!”
Aleu growled playfully and tackled him.
Dingo got off Aleu and ran to see loads of humans crowding round their box. Dingo wagged his tail in excitement and barked.
A little boy 13 years old picked Dingo up slowly and hugged him before carrying him away. Dingo looked over the boys shoulder and waved to his brothers and sisters.
“Bye Dingo!!” they all shouted and waved goodbye to their brother.
“I can’t let them go Jenna!” Balto said and stepped forward looking at the boy carrying Dingo away.
Jenna sighed and nuzzled Balto. Tears streaming down her face.
“Dingo!” Balto shouted. “Dingo!!!”
The boy carried Dingo to a small house in the middle of a frosty field at the end of Nome.
“I’m gonna call you… Dingo!” the boy said. “My name is Charlie” he continued.
Dingo wagged his little tail and stared Charlie.
Charlie smiled and took some keys out of his pocket and slid them in the key hole in the door. The door opened and he stepped inside.
“Welcome to your new home boy!” Charlie said with a grin.
He slowly placed Dingo on the wooded floor and walked away. It was quite dark until Charlie turned on a gas lamp and walked away.
Dingo was very exited about his new home. He sniffed and scuffed around searching everywhere. His little black nose scanned the floorboards.
“I wish mom and dad were here to see this place…” he whispered. He looked in the living room. On a blue rug in front of the fire was a big black dog snoring. Dingo gasped and stepped back. The floorboards creaked and the dog got up. He walked towards Dingo slowly and snarled. “What are you doing here pup?!” moaned the dog.
“I-I, was, a, adopted, by, Charlie, e” he said in between breaths.
“Get out of this house runt!” the dog said and raised his paw and hit Dingo across his head. Dingo fell to the floor and blood dripped from his forehead.
The dog walked towards him and snarled. Dingo growled sheepishly and bit the dog’s ear.
The dog yelped and tried to buck Dingo off. But he was holding tight. “Get off me runt!!” he bellowed and grabbed Dingo in his jaws and ripped him of his ear. But dingo ripped the dog’s ear off to and fell to the floor.
“Aaarrr!” the dog screamed and whined. Blood dripped down his head and down his face.
Dingo whined and dropped the dog’s ear on the floor.
“I will kill you!!!” the dog bellowed and walked towards the frightened Dingo.
“Enough, Rex” a voice called.
“What are you doing old man get lost!”
A old golden retriever limped out from behind the sofa and growled. “My name is not “old man” it is Trick, so don’t accuse me of being weak because I’m old”
Rex snarled. “Look what that runt did to me ear! He ripped it off!!” he shouted with hatred. Trick glared at the hot-tempered dog and snorted.
Rex growled and looked at Dingo. “Soon that old man will not be able to save you!” he said and walked away mumbling to himself.
Dingo looked at Trick. “T-thank you for saving me”
Trick nodded. “Follow me”
Dingo wagged his tail and padded after him.
“So, kid what are you doing here?”
“I was adopted by Charlie”
Trick smiled.
“What are we going to do now Trick?”
“Hmm, go for a walk?”
Dingo smiled and followed Trick out of the sitting room and through the backdoor.
They walked through the village of Nome.
“Hey look there’s my brother Kodi!” dingo barked franticly and raced over to him.
“Huh? Dingo!!” Kodi shouted and tackled him. Dingo smiled and licked Kodi’s head playfully. “Mom! Dad!” I’m here!” shouted Dingo.
Balto walked over to him and smiled. “He hey son” he said with a smile.
Dingo grinned.
Jenna barked and ran over to him. “Oh my god what happened to you?!” she said as she noticed the blood dripping down Dingo’s forehead.
“Nothing mom, I’m okay”
Jenna smiled and licked his muzzle.
“This is my friend, Trick! He saved me” Dingo said with pride.
The old golden retriever walked over to them and smiled.
Jenna nodded a hello to Trick and thanked him.
The day was turning to night and it was late.
“Is your boy looking for you Dingo?” whispered Balto.
“Yeah… I better be going home…”
Balto smiled and licked his nose. Then watched Dingo and Trick walk home.
When they got home it was quite late.
“Where have you been boy?” Charlie said and picked Dingo up. “My dad is home and he is really drunk and angry” he said and a tear dripped down his face.
Dingo frowned and licked away Charlie’s tear and smiled. Charlie’s face lit up with love and he hugged his pup tight.
“Where are you boy!!?” his dad shouted.
“Erm.. Coming dad!” he replied and put Dingo down. “Stay here Dingo.”
Dingo tilted his head and followed Charlie.
His dad was very drunk and mad-tempered. He picked up a whine bottle and smashed it of the ground. He was called mark. Mark normally went out to pubs until very late and beat up his dogs’ and Charlie.
“Who is that!?” mark yelled and pointed to Dingo.
“He’s m’ dog dad, he’s called dingo!”
“I don’t have time for more dogs you stupid Muppet.” mark spat and pushed Charlie into a wall. “Get out of my sight!”
“Yes dad” Charlie whined and scampered away.
Dingo snarled and barked.
Mark looked at Dingo angrily and picked him up by the scruff of his neck.
He took dingo outside and locked him in a leaky small kennel.
“This aught to keep you quiet!” he said and slammed the door.
Dingo whined and whimpered. Tears filled his eyes as he lay down. Water dripped
Through the roof of the kennel as it was raining. Dingo was so miserable.
He closed his eyes and gave out a long eerie howl that filled the night with sorrow.
Mark stormed out of the house. “Shut up in there!” he hissed and kicked the kennel.
Dingo snarled and carried on howling. Mark growled and opened the door “Little runt!”
He said and bashed the little pup all over with a metal pole.
The next day dingo woke up. Blood, cuts and scars all over his body. Mark had almost beaten him to death.
He stood up and looked out of the little slit to see the outside world.
“Psst!” a voice called. Dingo looked and saw Trick.
”Trick!! Thank god you’re here!”
“I’m sorry pup” trick said and lowered his head
“For what?”
“It’s my fault you’re in there, I should have told you to run when you had a chance…”
Dingo whimpered. “I just want to go home…” he cried.
A teardrop fell down Trick’s cheek. “I’m going to get you out Dingo! Trust me! Stand back!”
Dingo backed away from the door. “I did!”
Trick closed his eyes before charged and whacked his side of the door. He collapsed to the floor with blood leaking from him. “I’ll get you out!” he said and charged at the door over and over again until the door broke open. Trick lay on the floor bleeding.
Dingo ran out of the kennel and stared at Trick. “C’mon we can go now!”
“Okay” Trick said and limped.
“And where do you think, you two are going?” Rex said and walked towards them smirking.
He charged at Trick and pinned him down. “See I told you I could kill you! Now beg for forgiveness!” he shouted and stared at Trick.
“Never! Trick shouted back and bit Rex’s neck and threw him.
“Dingo, you gotta go!”
Dingo froze
“This is an order move, now! I don’t want you to see my defeat…”
Dingo backed away.
Tears ran down Tricks face. “Please…”
Dingo cried before he ran as fast as he could until he heard a scream. He skidded to a halt and galloped to were the scream came from. And to his horror Trick was laying on the floor with a bleeding neck. “Nooooooooooooo!” Dingo shouted as Rex gripped Trick’s neck and finished the job off.
Rex smirked proudly and trotted away.
Dingo raced over to Trick and cried. “Get up!”
“Please Trick, c’mon we can go…”
Trick did not move or breathe. His eyes were shut tight and blood dripped down his throat.
“Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!” Dingo screamed and cried loudly before running away.
He ran to the village and crashed into Balto.
“What’s wrong?! What happened?” Balto whispered and licked Dingo’s head.
“Trick, he h he got killed!” he yelled and howled as loud as he could.
Balto backed away and stood beside Jenna. “Oh no…” Jenna whispered and tears fell down her cheeks. She buried her face in Balto’s fur

I LOVE it! You did a very good job grabbing the reader, especially for
a short a story (sometimes there's little suspense in them) but not
here! Your picture of Dingo's beginning was grand! I'd really like to
see more stuff from you in the future! My only advice is this... write
more to your Dingo Story, make that chapter one and continue on, maybe
make Dingo take revenge, or, you could do something not so common and
have him find it in his heart to forgive Rex... there's thousands of
ideas out there, and you really should write more! It'd almost be a
crime to not finsh it. - RTW |
