He led Aleu to the seashore. Aleu felt very guilty, because she knew that Chalky will be killed, but she liked him. By the time they reached the coast, the sunrise was nearly over.

“Do you see them?” Chalky finally asked Aleu.

“Chalky…I…” Aleu was ready to say the whole truth.

“What? Don’t you dare say, that one of your sled dogs told you to go to the sea in your dream!”

“No, it is not that! Look, Chalky, I am sorry.” Aleu made herself say that.

“What’s now?” Chalky sounded irritated.

“I…I…I lied to you.” Aleu finally said. “You were right. I am not a dog, I am a wolf. I brought you here for my pack to kill you!”

“What the hell?!” Chalky was shocked. “I don’t believe a word you’re saying!”

“Well, now you will!” Someone said from behind. It was that black wolf, who made Aleu do all that job. “Perfect, Aleu. You managed it!”

“You, trickster! You will pay with your skin and bones for that!” Chalky growled at her.

“I am sorry; I really don’t want you to die!” Aleu said those words without realizing what she was saying.

“Whatever! Now, just before you will become our leader, I want you to do the last thing! Move out of the way, so we can kill that mutt!” the black wolf commanded, but Aleu didn’t move. “Come on, this is the last thing I am asking you to do!” He insisted.

“No way!” Aleu hissed. “You were right; I am not like any of you! I am not as cruel as you are! Run, Chalky, Run!” She shouted, but he didn’t move either. Then it was silence.

“No, Aleu, you are like us! If you would move out of the way, I would probably kill you. If I would kill him, it would get us in so much trouble. People would start searching for this husky. This was a test to see, whether you will make right decisions in difficult situations you might face. This morning you have nearly killed us, so we needed a proof, that you are good enough to be our leader.” The black wolf finally explained.

“I hate you! You put me in all this danger just to see whether I will make right decisions!” Aleu got mad at the black wolf.

“He is right Aleu. We need a leader, who doesn’t do anything spontaneously, and thinks carefully before doing something.” A silver wolfess added to the conversation.

“And you”, the black wolf said it to Chalky. “We wouldn’t kill you anyway. We never kill without any reason. Please forgive us for all of that.”

“It’s fine. You have just proved to me, that wolves don’t jut kill anyone. I will make sure that the hunters won’t shoot any of you! Aleu, I think that you will be a great leader. You are cunning, thoughtful and I am sure that you will manage to do whatever you will need to! Now bye, I have to go back home! I will tell to the other dogs, that you found your sled team.” Chalky said it and left the wolves.

Aleu looked at him, as he left the coast. She was happy that everything turned out that way. Now she could do what she planned to do yesterday.

“Now, as I said earlier, we need some order. The caribous must be somewhere around here. We are going to search for them, when the sun will finally rise. Before that, I want you all to look around our new territory.” She announced.

“Sure”

“No problem”

“As you wish”

“Of course we will”
