In the cold harsh winter in Yellowstone a litter of pups was born. Aaka the mother looked down proudly at her newly born pups as they squirmed and climbed over eachother to get closer to her. New Moon, the father walked in the den with a rabbit hanging limp in his jaws. He dropped the rabbit at Aaka's feet and looked at his pups, he was staring at one in particular a solid black one that was more toward's the end of the litter squirming and going her own way, Aaka saw this pushed the pup nearer to her. She knew from the start that this would be the problem pup, one that she would have to continue retrieving from going out of the den. She closed her eyes and nestled up to her newly born pups, soon she was fast asleep.
As the weeks went by, the pups grew stronger and more indepentent. They chased, growled, and pounced on eachother. Chinook the young black pup was the most indepentent and she would soon become bored playing with the rest and she go off to find her own games, her sister Feather was bold and daring and she was first to check out the new sights and smells. Wolf was quiet and calm and did most of his time napping. The smallest male Alpine, acted as though he was the biggest and he would start most of the play fighting. The last and biggest pup was Shonto, he was playful but wasn't the brightest. They showed more and more signs of being young adults and Aaka was eshausted keeping up with five pups.
Soon, the day came where Aaka introduced her pups to meat. Feather pounced on the small mink and sunk her teeth into it. The pups watched her and seeing that nothing happened they too began sinking there teeth until soon they were tearing and fighting over the meat. Chinook grabbed a piece and walked a few steps away grabbing a few bites, Alpine saw this and raced towards her and he sunk his small teeth into her she yelped and layed on her back submitting. It was the worst thing she could of done. She was showing the pups that she was the low ranking one and a quick nip would send her off. Of course she didn't mean to but she didn't know what else to do. The months went by and she had scars and wounds from her siblings, and also the pack itself.
They were all young minature wolves. They all stood to the shoulders of there mother and Chinook was miserable, she was constantly licking wounds sometimes for no reason at all a pack member would just look at her at an easy target and pick and bully her. She was the thinnest and her coat didn't shine healthy as her siblings and she just went through day after day, but one day something happened that would change her life forever.
The pack had not eaten for days and they would snap up any small meal they could catch until they saw a dear untouched laying there dead. The pack ran to it and ripped and teared at the meal. As usual Chinook had to wait and she sat quietly watching. Suddenly New Moon grew stiff and his eyes rolled back in his head he made a noise that was so unpleasant Chinook cringed in terror, one by one the pack dropped and soon the only one left alive was the little black wolf.
Chinook stared wide eyed and walked up to her mother and sniffed her carefully. A scent that was new to her filled her nostrils and she smelt all of the pack members smelling the same thing. She heard something coming though the forest and she ran back into the woods only she didn't stop she ran and ran until her lungs were bursting with pain and agony, she continued to run. She finally collapsed panting heavily and the world was spinning around her. She closed her eyes and didn't wake up for two solid days. Chinook awoke and went down to a small stream
