appeared on his face, ‘’well then I guess I owe you that much.’’

Rick started telling his story, all the while Ginger listened intently.

‘’Before I met your boyfriend, I was one of the top dogs in crime. No one – not even any agents from the ITTI – would mess with me and my reputation. But then those corporate bureaucrats hired a rookie cop the was on the force for only three months! That was Brent MacWolf; he’d been a minor thorn in my side for those three months, and then he shows up at my next heist; one I had been planning in secret. He had become a serious problem with the combination of ITTI’s technology and Brent’s instinct and intuition. He appeared at every major robbery or deal that I had arranged, and it was starting to become more than just a minor annoyance. Finally, Brent arrested me in the middle of my greatest crime ever – stealing the gold reserves from Fort Knox – and put me behind bars. I had seven long years to plot my revenge, and when I got out, I knew the one thing that would drag Brent MacWolf into my trap was kidnapping you Ginger, and taking advantage of his one weakness.’’

Rick smashed his fist through one of the glass panes, startling Ginger as her captor pulled his paw from the open hole. The knuckles were spotted with glass shards and the entire paw was bleeding and shaking slightly. Rick smiled.

‘’Now that I’ve told my story, it’s time I sealed my place as one of the elite criminals of all fur-kind!’’

‘’I wouldn’t count on it.’’ A taunting voice said, ruining Rick’s triumphant moment. Rick whirled around and saw Brent MacWolf standing up; he wasn’t hurt at all.

‘’You,’’ Rick gasped, ‘’how did you get up?’’

‘’Simple really, ‘’ Brent answered, ‘’as long as I have the will to fight, I will keep on going.’’

Rick cracked his knuckles.

‘’Then let’s see if your will to fight can’t be broken, hmm?’’

The two bolted at each other, paws clutched into fists, and mouths open yelling curse words and battle cries.

They collided in the centre of the room. Rick was incredibly strong, and quickly sent a barrage of fists at his enemy. Brent threw up his arms, blocking the barrage. His body shook from the force of each fist that connected, until his only defence became numb and exposed his fist to Rick’s attack. Brent’s face grew bruises and cuts almost immediately, and one last punch sent him onto his back. Rick smiled and walked up, picking up his unconscious opponent. Brent’s eyes snapped open and he tripped Rick onto the floor. He waited until Rick stood up and landed a perfect sidekick to his face. Brent picked his rival up and kneed him in the stomach, jumping onto his shoulder and slamming his face onto the floor. Rick stood up, fire in his eyes. Form appeared around his teeth and his pupil became bloodshot. He was angry; and Brent knew it. Rick grabbed Brent around the neck and thrust his body through a window pane, holding him outside. It was about an eight foot drop to the floor. Ginger squirmed to get free, but her bonds were still too tight. Rick grinned insanely, his eyes narrowing.

‘’Well Brent, it’s time we bid goodbye!’’

Brent put up his paws.

‘’Rick, you don’t have to do this,’’ he said, ‘’we can get you psychiatric help. We can cure you!’’

Rick snarled.

‘’The only way to cure me is to see you fall to your death Brent MacWolf, ‘’ he replied solemnly, ‘’only then will I be cured.’’

Rick then released his grip on Brent’s neck. Brent fell down, but grabbed Rick’s leg as he did. The two fell toward the ground, disappearing in the trees. Ginger finally managed to free herself and ran over to the window. There was nothing but forest below. Ginger started to cry, and she didn’t stop. Suddenly, she heard a familiar voice.

‘’Hey Ginger, mind giving me some help?’’ it asked. Ginger ran over to the window and looked down the side of the base. Brent clutched a small piece of stray metal that stuck out from the base. Ginger reached her paw down and grabbed Brent’s. Lifting her boyfriend up and through the window, Ginger smothered him like a teddy bear.

‘’Oh Brent, I was so worried,’’ she cried, ‘’I thought you were dead!’’

Brent embraced Ginger warmly and started to cry himself.

‘’As was I Ginger, as was I.’’

Outside the base, ten minutes later,

Agents from the ITTI rounded up the bodies of Rick’s guards and brought forward Scythes’ body, which was still alive. Somehow, Rick had survived the fall, but he was mangled up badly. General Macduff pointed at the awaiting transporter and said, ‘’lock him in the containment cell. He won’t be out for a long time.’’

Rick glared at Brent MacWolf as he was loaded on.

‘’I’ll be back Brent,’’ he threatened, ‘’and when I return, you’ll be sorry!’’

Brent simply waved at his rival and answered, ‘’by that time Scythes, you and I will be in different places!’’

The transporter door closed and the entire vehicle disappeared in a small flash. General Macduff turned to his best agent and replied, ‘’good job Agent MacWolf. Even though you accomplished this mission behind my back, I am glad that maniac is finally behind bars. I also wish to apologise about how I dismissed your concern for your mate Brent. But rules are rules, and that is why I must ask you to choose.’’

Brent blinked with confusion.

‘’Choose,’’ he questioned, ‘’choose what?’’

Macduff sighed, clutched his paws together behind his back.

‘’You must choose between your mate or working with the ITTI,’’ he answered, a serious look on his face, ‘’ITTI rules state that any agent – male or female – cannot fraternise with anyone from any time period. This could cause serious damage to the Space-Time Continuum and thus destroy time altogether. Punishment for this sort of violation is the vapourization of any data you or the ITTI possesses about the missions you have done, any awards you received, anything about the ITTI.’’

Macduff sighed again.

‘’That is why I am giving you this option of quitting now,’’ Macduff stared into MacWolf’s eyes, ‘’Brent, you are my best agent, and I hate to see your memory erased. If you choose to stay with the ITTI, you must give up Ginger. But if you decide to be with the one you love, I’ll start destroying your records.’’

Brent looked back to Ginger, who smiled. She was behind her boyfriend; whichever decision he made. Brent took a deep breath and answered, ‘’sir, I wish…to stay with Ginger!’’

Macduff and Ginger were both shocked.

‘’You…you mean you’re giving up life as a secret agent just to be with your girlfriend?’’ Macduff stammered. Brent nodded confidently.

‘’Sir, you must understand, I love Ginger. I risked destroying time just to be with her, and frankly if that doesn’t prove she’s worthy enough for my love, I don’t know what you think does.’’

Macduff smiled slightly.

‘’MacWolf, I respect your decision,’’ Macduff then threw Brent a small microchip, ‘’this is a portal chip that leads to the archives. It’s voice activated and plugs into your time-travel watch. Consider this your retirement gift.’’

The general then created a portal to his office. Just as he was about to leave, Brent saluted his former boss, ‘’sir…I won’t let you down sir! Take care of yourself!’’

General Macduff gave his agent a salute back.

‘’At ease MacWolf. You’ve done your job.’’

The portal then closed, leaving Brent and Ginger on the island. Brent turned to his mate and asked, ‘’you wanna go back to the good ol’ days or what?’’

Ginger giggled and answered, ‘’1954, here we come!’’

Brent created a time portal and jumped through, followed by Ginger.

Nome, Alaska, 1954,

Brent and Ginger landed in the snow that covered the ground in their hometown. Brent stood up, examining his surroundings. The buildings looked like they did when he left. He and Ginger had managed to go through time and still make it back without ever seeming to have left. Ginger turned to Brent and said, ‘’I think we’d better get inside honey. We’re gonna freeze out here if we don’t.’’

Brent shivered and nodded at the same time.

‘’I humbly agree Ginger.’’

The two mates walked through the white snow, disappearing into their home, the home they hoped to spend the rest of their lives together in.

END

Well, I never thought this story would get off the ground. This has broken the ten-month drought I’ve have with this series of mine, and now I hope I can make it to number 12.
