but he wondered if he said that right.

“No need to defend yourself there, pardon my miss speaking and suprising you but what is you’re name?”

Darn, I said it wrong, “Well it’s Balto, may I know yours.”

The white husky replied happily, “My name is Terry, are you The ‘Balto’, sorry.”

“Yes that’s is me but don’t call me hero or anything I don’t deserve it.” He tried to say reassuringly.

“Sorry,” her ears went back as if she did something bad.

He wondered about it, “What’s wrong?”

“Well I’m just..” She didn’t finish.

He thought for a moment oh, the musher she had, didn't treat her while so mistakes are treated badly, but before he could speak She had started again.

“Your look like a wolf, and that makes you look cute.”

He was rather bewildered by the comment...What? “You mean you’re not frightened?”

“Should I be afraid?” She asked him, making him feel slightly accused, of why should his apperance matter...it felt odd, to have it the other way around.

“No, I’m just..”

“Most hate or fear wolves?” She finished for him.

He wondered, this is weird normally they..He started to talk again “So what brings you guys to Nome?” He used his paw to point towards the sled group she was a part of.

“Well, I really don’t know.” She lowered her head, and body slightly as she answered.

He wondered about the her owner the stupid musher, “It’s alright, you don’t have know everything.”

Her ears moved forward and lifted her head. “You aren’t angry at me?”

What? “Why would I be mad at you? You haven’t done anything.” Then like lightning he realized their musher was a really bad one, and remembered the yelling. He thought it was because he was late, but...it must have been the norm.

“Well that’s nice to know.” She sounded a little worried, she didn't seem to sure of herself.

I’m going to do something about that musher. He thought to himself.

“How are you? Tell me the truth.” She question him directly, her voice blunt.

He blinked at the question, “Well, I’m fine really nothing bad has happened to me.”

He noticed She was looking at his paw and head.

“Oh, these? I got them yesterday when I was...” He didn’t want to tell he did this to himself.

“I see.” She answered to him, as if she already knew...it felt like that somehow.

Balto trying to get off the subject asked a question, “So may I ask something?”

She was surprised by something and simply not asking the question its self, “Yeah ask anything.”

He sighed he felt like this was violating personal dealings. “Who is the father? Which one is he or is he back at your home?”

Her eyes widened with internal pain, her ears moved back and looked away.

He felt terrible, he looked down at the ground disapointed with himself, “A mistake? Sorry that was out of line.” SHUT UP BALTO! He heard her crying now look what I’ve done! He heard her talking “I wish it was.”  He took a small step back, rasing his head to look at her suprised.

“Then, is he gone?” He couldn’t feel as bad, as she did.

“No.” She half sobbed.

He had a look of shock he didn’t know what was wrong. The father didn't pass away...it wasn't a mistake one night..what could it be?

She was crying heavily, but He could make out the words though the sobs. “I..I was forced.”

His eyes widened slightly and with a tiny gasp that isn’t right Jenna and I we chose to, but forced! He felt a mix of emotions, of hate, grief, and sadness. Anger seemed to be the biggest piece of the three.

“It had to be done...” She finished.

He could only mutter the words. “I’m so sorry.”

She was slowly recomposing her self, she seemed a bit angry with herself by letting herself fall apart. “I’ve gone through nothing, not compared to you.”

He was confused, “What do you mean by ‘Nothing come paired to you.’”

She used her paw to whip away some tears off, “Not being accepted is the worst pain, but with the loss of your mother and father as a pup must be unbearable.”

It wasn't much of a secert he was seperated from his parents, he came to this town as a pup. He couldn’t help but ask, “How did you know?”

She sniffed with a small laugh “Well, a beautiful red husky I over herd her conversation with a dog.”

Jenna he thought.

“forgive me, for eavesdropping.”

He took a breath, he didn't much accpet her conlusion of whos pain was worse, or why she was even comparing them, “That’s is more than my pain.”

She made a smile, and shook her head, “No it isn’t.”

He spoke a little louder, while raising his shoulders to enforce a bit more of what he was saying, “No, I don’t believe that.”

Terry had another tear fall, “No, was comforted when I was a little pup, and after the event not having my parents would be unlivable, I had them with friends. You Balto you were treated as an outcast and no one to turn to when you lost your mother and father, or picked on for that matter.”

He felt his own ears went back every time he thought of his puppy hood, but what she was saying wasn't true. “But I did find friends, and I found the one I love-”

She spoke before he finished she had tears down each side of her face, and she was smiling, “Yeah, and the pain is gone? No it is still there, what it stopped, no the teasing stopped? They might be gone but only because you did something they could not. How many times you were left out.”

He didn’t want to hear anymore, “Stop yours is now! Mine was then!”

She waited him to finish before staring again, but interrutped “Did anyone hear you screaming when you where alone? When you break down who is there to save you?”

He intervened, “My friends and-"

She intterupted him again, which started to heat his blood a bit, “Mine was only one night, one moment. How long did they torment you?”

He didn’t like what he was hearing but it was the truth, but he refused to believe it. There was a long silence, but he felt a small rage burning within.

Terry finally broke the silence “I should be going, you should too.” She turned walked off to her sled team.

He walked slowly away, one thought stayed in his mind Revenge He knew it was the musher he didn’t need to ask Terry. He wanted pups to sell! That conceiving of a, his thoughts were interrupted. He heard Boris. Great.

“Where have you been?” Boris said to Balto as he flew in front of him, and landed, to him an argument was coming up.

He spoke with a smile, “I was in Nome, Alaska.”

“OHY!” Boris hit his head, “I meant were or you know what I mean!”

“Just talking to my self.” He lied. “Oh Boris about last late night..”

Seeing he was normal again, “Don’t fret my dog, all things can be forgiven. Now what caused you to snap last night?”

He looked away not wanting to honestly answer that question, “Nothing it was nothing.”

Boris looked at him oddly, not believing him, but wasn't going to question it farther. “Alright.”

He was relived Boris dropped the subject.

“Now Balto about the race today.” Boris said.

“Oh, yeah about that when is it?” He asked him.

“Ha! Finely someone wants to listen.” Boris said.

He replied, “I think you need a break form Muk and Luk.”

“You finely give words of advise.” Boris lifted an eyebrow.

“Well about the race Boris I didn’t remember to get the time.” He asked with a sheepish smile.

“Maybe you forgot when banged your head against the boat.” Boris joked while petting his head.

“Perhaps, but when is it?” He asked again, a bit demanding...he didn't want to be late, again!

“O, that, the race?” Boris asked prolonging the answer and playfully annoying him.

“Yes the race.”

“I told you.”

“Well I need to be reminded Boris.” He twitched his temper was shrinking, he was already late once.

“Alright don’t fret over dog it’s 10:20 is it that hard boy?” Boris he answered bluntly.

“Alright then what’s the time Boris?” He wagged his tail his mood lighting up.

“Well last I checked it was ten, ten.” Boris said with some laughter, knowing time was now crushing his friend.

He grunted while shaking his head, “Ahh man, Jenna is going to kill me if I’m late again.”

Boris put his wing on him, “Well then I-“

He didn't bother to hear the rest, he simply sprinted out, sending Boris spinning
