outside. The brown wolf let go of Hope and ran out with the silver wolf trailing behind him.

Hope didn’t even take the time to think, she ran as quickly as her small paws could carry her out.

 

As she came outside she saw three hunters shooting at wolfs that tried to attack them. Hope tried to run but a hunter stepped on her small tail. Hope cried as the hunter lifted her up from the ground.

 

“What do we have here?” He said as he watched Hope trying to hit him with her paws

 

He turned her around and looked at her wounds that the brown wolf had left

 

“Have the other wolfs been bad to you” He asked smiling and took a cage up from the ground.

 

“We will have a better look at you in town” He said and placed her in the middle of the cage”

 

“Look after her Boomer” He said as he laid down the cage next to small Husky that looked like he was the same age as her.

As the hunter came into Nome, he took Hope home. Hope watched all the houses and people with dogs pass by from the cage and she couldn’t understand why the people didn’t shoot the dogs

 

“Here we are” She heard the hunter say as he stopped in front of a small house. He opened the cage and picked Hope up and walked into the house. Hope tried everything to get away, but nothing seemed to work, her small teeth didn’t hurt him when she bit his fingers so she gave up.

 

“Tired so soon” He laughed as he saw Hope yawning. He laid her down on the floor and walked into the kitchen

 

“Look after her, Boomer” He said again to the red husky.

 

When the hunter had gone into the kitchen Boomer looked at Hope

“Hi” he said and smilingly walked around Hope

 

Hope didn’t trust him but there was something familiar about him  

“Hi” She said in a shaking voice as she lied down

 

“I’m Boomer, I’m going to be a sled dog when I get older but now I’m just helping Josh when he goes hunting, but someday I’m going to be like my dad Balto and save the town” He talked really fast and didn’t take his eyes of Hope.

 

“What’s your name?” he asked and sat down in front of her.

 

“Hope” She whispered and she looked around, trying to find a way to escape but everything was closed.

 

Josh came back into the room and looked down at the two of them.

 

“I think I’ll be keeping you” He said and picked her up

 

“I don’t think you are a pure wolf, there is some dog in you” He said and gave her a piece of fish he got from the kitchen and threw one down to Boomer.

 

“Maybe one day you will make a fine sled dog”

 

Boomer looked up at Josh offended and barked loudly

 

“You too” He laughed and laid Hope back down on the floor

 

“You two will make a fine team some day”

2 years later

 

 

“Stop” Josh called to the dogs as they came into Nome with the deer he had just been hunting

 

“Good run guys” Boomer called back to his team mates as they were let go. Hope ran over to Boomer and nuzzled him friendly when they walked back to the boiler room.

 

“Guys wait up” A silver grey husky called after them and came running down the street.

 

“Did you hear?” The husky asked excited as he stopped in front of them.

 

“Did we hear what Khaz?” Boomer asked, seeing how excited Khaz was.

 

“We are going on a few day trip up north because Josh is going hunting!”

 

“That will be good practise for the team” Boomer said to Hope as he watched Khaz running quickly away to tell the others.

 

 

Hope and Boomer walked to the boiler room to meet the other team mates after the run.

 

“There are the two lovebirds” giggled a light brown and black husky

 

Hope blushed as she came in and lied down next to Boomer

 

“Great run everybody, I hope you heard the good news” Boomer said as he watched his team mates

 

“Yeah Khaz yelled it when he came in” Said a large brown and white husky that sat in the corner

 

“I DID NOT!” Khaz said as he looked angry at the other husky

 

“Yes you did” said a grey border collie, husky mix that lied next to a black male husky.

 

“I want all of you to get a good sleep before we go on the trip, this trip will be a good practise for us” Boomer spoke over the group.

 

As all of the team mates where leaving to get a sleep Hope and Boomer stood up.

 

“Do you think we will be safe?” She asked as they walked out

 

“Yeah” He said and nuzzled her as they walked out.

The next day all of the dogs where tied up to sled and ready to go

 

“Everyone ready?” Boomer called back to his team mates as he saw Josh walking up to the sled.

 

“Yeah” Everyone called back.

 

“Let’s go” Josh called over the group and they sprinted off.

 

 

 

In the middle of the day, the team had run a long distance and were far away from any town, Josh stopped the team to have a look around and give the dogs a little break. As they stopped Hope walked over to Boomer and lay down next to him. Boomer watched her as she nuzzled him. Something had happened because he had a weird feeling when he was around her and he hoped she did too.

 

“What do you think about the team?” She asked after awhile

 

“I think we are doing pretty well” He said smiling and looked over at the others.

 

“Boomer?” Hope said after awhile and looked down

 

“What?” he asked as he tried to get her to look back up

 

“I have been getting this feeling when I’m around you, and I’m not sure, but I think I lo...” Hope stopped as she heard Josh walking over to them

 

“Boomer ready to go?” He asked as he stepped back on the sled.

 

Hope sighed as she stood back up and got ready to go. Boomer looked over his shoulder at Hope and smiled.

 

“I love you to!” He whispered as he walked over to her and gave her a kiss on the cheek

 

“Break it up lovebirds” Josh called over to them as Boomer turned around and got ready to go.

 

Hope smiled to herself as the team sprint off.

Over the next day the weather had gotten worse as the team where running over the mountain. All the dogs were getting tired and they couldn’t see where they were going.

 

“Is everyone all right?” Boomer called back as they took a turn.

 

“If all right means my tail freezing off, then I’m great” Khaz snapped back at him.

 

Boomer laughed and looked over his shoulders to see his team mates

 

“That’s good to know” He said to Khaz as he laughed.

 

“LOOK OUT!” Hope suddenly yelled to Boomer when she saw an edge in front of them. Boomer quickly tried to stop but the ground was too icy and the sled went down with some dogs hanging in it.

 

“Pull!” Hope heard Josh call and was glad that he was still on the sled. But it was too heavy and Boomer, Hope and Khaz where the only ones still hanging up on the icy edge.

 

“We have to pull it up” Boomer called to Hope and Khaz.

 

Boomer tried to step on rocks to help his grip as he walked slowly up. But suddenly Khaz slipped and he was hanging with the others down the edge. Boomer slip down a little and Hope was standing close to the edge.

 

“Boomer!” She cried out as she was starting to slip. Boomer looked around and saw Hope hanging on the edge.

 

“Help” She whispered as she lost her grip and fell down. Boomer wasn’t strong enough to hold all the weight by himself so he started to slip. Boomer tried everything to climb up but suddenly he lost his grip and fell down with the rest of his team.

Hope woke up under a cover of fallen snow. She looked up ad the edge she had been hanging from.

 

“Boomer” She thought and started to look around for her other team mates. Sinally she found Khaz with a broken leg, Raven who was helping Copper wake up Josh. But she didn’t see Boomer

 

“Boomer!” she called out as she saw something red lying in the snow. As she ran over to it she saw Boomer lying with his head on a rock and blood pooling around him.

 

“No!” She whispered as she tried to wake him, like she had done with her father

 

“Please wake up!” She cried but no answer came. Hope looked around and saw the dead bodies of Lisa and Shadow lying close by.

 

“No!” she whispered to herself before she howled her pain and misery. Khaz, Copper and Raven looked quickly at Hope who was lying next to Boomer. After awhile Copper walked over to Hope.

 

“We need to get Josh back to town” He said as he sat down next to her.
