Luna had always been a loner. She once had a pack, but they had left her alone after the death of the remaining alpha, her mother, Silent Brook. She traveled for days searching for a pack that would accept her. Hunger was always at her heels and she was often chased off territories of other packs. Would she ever have a pack that let in?
Luna's old territory was mostly a large mountain range. She was able to stay nearby her old territory without her old pack attacking her. It may have seemed cruel, but her pack had become tainted by an extremely powerful force. To be exact, it was Lunas half brother, Dark Night. Although they shared fathers, Luna looked nothing like her half brother. She was the perfect image of her mother, beautiful, tan-blonde fur, big brown ears and yellow green eyes and he was completely black with a muscular body and bright blue eyes. The rest of her previous pack had been killed in a take over attempt of another territory. The pack now consisted of outsiders that had joined after the failed take over.
Luna had slept the night peacefully on the edge of her old territory until now. Her old home was running low on food so her pack came in her direction. She quickly spotted them, but this time she held her ground. Her old packs number had been reduced severely. Instead of the strong six that had sent her off, there were now only three shaggy skins of wolves draped over meager skeletons. The first wolf she saw was her brother. He was much different from when she had seen him last. He had many scars and wounds and the angry spirit in his eyes had seemed to completely fade. The pack challenged her. She had been able to sustain herself and she was confident that she was stronger than them. She stayed where she was and gave a loud growl.
Luna's brother gave a loud howl and his two pack members went forward. Luna braced herself. A skinny black wolf was the first to come to her. It immediately jumped on her back to try and sink its teeth in. She was easily able to throw him off and she grabbed him by his scuff and tossed him away. The second was a large, but thin white wolf. After seeing what happened, it hesitated. Luna took the chance to catch him off guard and toss him away as well. Her brother, filled with rage, ran full speed toward her. Before she knew what was happening, her brother had his fangs deep in her shoulder. She struggled to get out of his dangerous grip. A thin trickle of blood came from her shoulder as it gave way to his furious jaws. She didnt want to fight him. They had grown up together, the alpha male was their father and he cared for them both. The difference was that Luna came from both the alpha male and female and her brother, Dark Night was below herin status because of his low-ranking mother. Dark Night was a part of her, despite his envy and hate for her higher stature. He let go of her shoulder and tried to get at her throat. She ducked away from him and his teeth clicked in the empty air. She looked into his eyes and all she saw was anger. She would have no choice but to destroy him. He was no longer the happy, playful pup who would lie by her side and lovingly lick her ear when she was afraid. Would she truly be able to bring her self to completely get rid of him or would she let herself be destroyed instead?
Luna thought to her self as she quickly evaded her brothers attacks. Dark Night had changed too greatly, he was no longer a wolf, but a starved monster driven by rage. She had to destroy him for not only his own good, but for all the creatures in the world. If she was killed, what would stop him from killing his pack of any other wolves searching for a home? Her only connection to her father was staring her right in the face, but he wasnt his former self. She gave a sorrowful whimper and a heavy, sad sigh and rushed toward him. Instead of rage in her eyes, there was only pity, love, and forgiveness. She was not mad at her brother; she just had to save him from himself. Her fangs soon met his neck. Her aim was too low and Dark Night took her mistake as an opportunity to bite her again. His teeth sunk into the soft flesh of her ear. As he was biting her ear, Luna squirmed beneath him and moved her teeth up on his neck. This time her aim was closer and he let go of her ear and tried to get away. Luna held tight, with her eyes full of sadness. After a while, Dark Nights struggle had eased and he started to give up. Luna let go of him and backed away. Her brother fell to the ground and gave a weak whimper. Luna kept her distance and watched with sadness as his body shook with the approach of death. He opened his eyes for the last time and even though they were glazed, Luna could see the slight hint of happiness in his eyes. He remembered the older times when he and Luna were young. Instead of his half-sister standing before him, he saw an angel coming to his rescue. Luna came closer as Dark Night gave his last heavy sigh. Dark Nights spirit was gone from the world of the living and Luna gave his cheek a soft, comforting lick. The weak pack members that had been overpowered by Luna earlier now came to her side and accepted her as their leader. She didnt hate them either because she knew she would save them from hunger, just as she had saved her brother from his consuming hate. She gave a howl. It was loud and clear and she sang of mourn for her brother and a new beginning in her old home. She was an alpha and she was back in her territory. She would never forget her old family or Dark Night, no matter what happened to her in the future. Her life was renewed and she finally had a home.
The End
