she tried to go higher up.
Yes, this was Aleu, and after leaving Balto, she had found this new home. Everything had been going fine until all of the ice melted, she was stranded here, only thinking about her pack.
The pack had drowned, and few of them were lucky enough to escape, and they were watching Aleu from the hills, where of which, they were completely safe.
Aleu howled in anger and heard Kodi’s howl from far away.
“A reply? But who could it be? Maybe it’s my dad!!” She yelled and jumped straight into the freezing water, swimming quickly down the rapids.
Aleu swam down into some nearby woods, that had already been filled with water, she took a deep breath and dove under, this was the only way she could even hope of getting across. She was thinking about her father all the time, to give her the courage, and strength, of getting to the other side.
She remembered her Uncle Boris, and how she used to play with him, those were the times that she had fun when learning to hunt, now, she knows that life isn’t just a game. She had to face this full on, and carried on swimming, popping up from time to time to get a breath.
----------
Kodi swam, hearing Aleu’s howl, and wondering if he was going to be killed by a wolf, or if he was going to be helped by a wolf, but he didn’t take a chance, so pushed himself sideways, down a path, that was fast with water. His legs were getting tired, and he saw a tiny bit of land.
Leaping into the air, he grabbed the side, but then noticed, that if he had stayed in the water he would have been thrown down a waterfall, and now that he’s jumped, he’s hanging from a cliff!
Water sprayed onto Kodi’s fur as his hind legs scratched at the dirt, trying to gain balance. He remembered his father telling him the same incident when he was younger, Balto had said this:
“Son, I remember when I was trying to save Rosie, In the Diphtheria break out. The Antitoxin was sliding down the edge and I undid my position and grabbed the rope, I was hanging on for dear life, when my foot slipped, I could have died, but instead, I went falling down into a stone. It broke and I fell into the gorge, that’s when I saw Aniu for the second time, so with a bit of hope and faith, I made it back alive, and delivered the Antitoxin, now Rosie is still alive and that’s how I met your mother”
“I wish that I was a strong as him, I’ll never make it out alive!!!” Kodi cried, and he lost his grip, falling and falling.
Just then, Kodi heard a splash from the water, and Aleu grabbed his paws in her mouth, and slowly pulled him up. She had her foot on a rock and was pulling as hard as she could.
Kodi’s eyes widened, and he saw a flash back of himself, helping his father up with Dusty and the gang, that was the day they rescued Duke, the plane driver. Kodi looked into Aleu’s blue eyes and saw Balto, they were the same.
Aleu grabbed Kodi’s scruff and lifted him up onto the dry land. It was hard to move because there wasn’t much room, but they both sat and looked at each other.
“Who are you?” Kodi asked, surprised.
“My name is Aleu, but who are YOU”
“I am Kodiac, I run as lead dog for the Nome mail run, I also won a race against the Bush Plane!”
“The WHAT plane??” Aleu wondered, she had never seen or even heard of a plane before.
“Never mind..” Kodi smiled.
“You may have heard of my dad, he was half wolf half dog, he used to run as lead dog too!” Aleu told happily.
“Wow, that’s weird, it’s like we have the same dad, or something! My mother is a purebred Husky, and she loves my dad very much” Kodi said.
“My dad saved the whole of Nome in a Diphtheria break out…” Aleu started.
“And his name was Balto!” They both shouted in unison.
“It IS you! All of us were Huskies, but you were the wolf!! Aleu!! I’m your brother!” Kodi shouted happily, they both barked in agreement and nudged each other.
----------
Dusty slowly opened her eyes, and as she stepped out of her bed, she fell straight into water. She swam up as fast as she could, and saw Kirby + Ralph on each side of her top bunk.
“WHAT’S GOING ON???!” Dusty screeched as she headed for the door.
Kirby dove under and pushed the door open, letting the water outside.
“We don’t know, it was like this when we woke up, we tried to wake you, but you didn’t!” Ralph barked.
Dusty looked around at their soaking wet house, and then stopped.
“Kodi… OH NO!! KODI!!!” She howled, Dusty swam out with Ralph and Kirby, to see Balto and Jenna, staring into the woods.
Dusty swam up to them and nudged Balto. Balto was swimming like mental to try to stay above the water with Jenna. As Kirby came up, Dusty looked at Jenna’s eyes, they were filled with tears, just like her own eyes.
“Jenna.. I-” Dusty started.
“Don’t say anything… I want to find my son..” Jenna told, biting her lip.
Jenna and Balto flattened their ears, and Dusty looked into the woods, she also flattened her ears. Kirby swam up and looked at Ralph.
“We’ll stay here, you guys go and find Kodi, Dusty, I really do hope you find him” Kirby told, Ralph nodded and they both turned back to Nome.
“Jenna, Dusty, are you two ready to go on this adventure?”
“Yeah!” They both shouted, so Balto swam ahead, letting them follow.
A few nights had passed, and it had just reached dawn. Dusty, Jenna and Balto were still swimming as hard as they could, and had already found a place to rest.
Balto swam up to a patch of high land and jumped on, panting and panting. He helped up Jenna and Dusty, who were also panting.
Each of them knew that this rest was only going to be short, because Kodi could be dead all ready, yet, they made the most of 1 hour by sleeping.
Balto was awoken by the sound of a black crow cawing, and he heard two howls in the distance, both sounded familiar, and one of them, sounded like one of his daughters….
“Dusty, Jenna, wake up, we’re really close, I’m sure that I heard Kodi’s howl!” Balto whispered.
Almost immediately they both got up and jumped into the water at the same time as Balto. The three of them swam further down until the howls got louder, they knew they were close now. Balto swam down and the three of them came to a halt.
“Balto, I think that we should take another quick nap” Jenna told.
“Me too..” Agreed Dusty.
“You two can, I’m carrying on” Balto said, and with that, Jenna and Dusty were asleep.
Balto looked back as he jumped back into the water, just ahead of him he could see white, it, it, it, it was snow! He swam as fast as he could and tumbled into a big pile of snow, no water, just snow!
“What now?” Balto asked, he felt a wind around his back and turned around.
“Only a little journey back to Jenna, my son” A big, white wolf told. Balto’s eyes widened.
“Aniu?” Balto asked, worriedly.
“Yes, my son, you must return, quickly, otherwise, it will be too late for your children” Aniu told, she let out a long howl, and disappeared.
Suddenly, all of the snow disappeared, and he was back with Jenna and Dusty.
“Children?” He thought.
Balto had no time to worry about that word, so he nudged Dusty and Jenna awake, and they began to swim, once again.
----------
Kodi swam fast, trying to race against the current, alongside Aleu. Suddenly, a roar, shook through the woods, shaking the water, making ripples and splashes.
“Lets go!” Aleu yelped, quickly jumping onto a tiny bit of dry land.
Kodi was pulled away by a current, and he was headed towards a cliff.
“KODI!!” Aleu screamed, and she jumped across the water, running on land to catch him.
Aleus’ paws raced as she tried to run like her dad had once ran. She kept on going, and jumped, to catch Kodis’ scruff, but he slipped from her jaws and went tumbling down, hitting rocks as he went.
Beside Kodi was water, rushing down, he was lucky to fall through air and not freezing water.
Aleu stared into the darkness, as she heard him howling for help, but what could she do. Then, Aleu heard a thump, it must have been Kodi., hitting the ground, at least he’s found dry land.. But then she saw the water rushing down beside her, but not for long…
Aleu felt a cold breeze around her, and her fur was blown about. Her ears folded back, and as she turned her head, she saw a big, black demon like creature, standing above her, it was like the bear that she had seen before, only bigger..
----------
As the bear raised it’s paw in front of Aleus’ face, about to swipe, a long red ribbon wrapped around it’s neck, pulling it down, and holding each end of the ribbon, was Jenna and Balto.
“Mum! Dad!” Aleu yelled in happiness.
“Aleu!” Jenna barked, they ran to each other and nudged.
Balto stood staring into space,
