take those two out as quietly as possible. Then, they would attack the other two. Shad knew that they would have to get the leader if they both survived. It was impossible to fight minions and NOT fight the leader. The two waited. And waited and waited and waited and waited.

"Jeeze these guys are slow travelers." Alouna rolled her eyes. She felt like dozing off, but knew that she had to stay awake from this boredom.

A twig cracked outside the den, and the rest was drown out by the rain and a clap of thunder. All became quiet as two wolves slowly approached the den's outskirts.

~Chapter 8: The Fight of Two Old Threats~

Alouna swallowed hard and her heart beat as quick as a greyhound could run. She had never had this feeling; if they were as tough as her mind had told her, how could they win? Shad panted heavily. He, too, was afraid. He recalled something similar to this suspense when his "dark days", or his bad times in puppy hood began.

It started normal, and then when he and Shiro were out on a hunt, a black wolf began to attack them. There was also a white she-wolf and her brother, a gray and brown killer. They seemed young but were around 3 years. The smell of these wolves reminded him of what his past was like. They smelled like the ones that killed his brother, from what he remembered, and when two approached the den, he could see far-off versions of their figures; they looked very similar to his old threats.

One of them looked around and gave a signal to move. Koby and Dona moved closer to the den and walked inside. They appeared broad boned and with a killer's instinct. The den's shadows hid Shad and Alouna well; they were both unseen in a good hiding spot.

Dona froze and perked her ear up. She lifted her head and rolled her eyes. Koby stopped what he was doing. "What? Why did you stop searching?" He asked.

"Jeez, Koby. Why do you think??" She said with a smart tone.

Koby scoffed and turned around, continuing to sniff the area.

"You don't get it do you??" She asked.

Koby sighed and said, "Well I REALLY DON'T KNOW why you stopped."

Dona groaned. "Because this is too stupid. We're searching an empty den. They're obviously not here."

Koby gave a blank stare and then moved his eyes from left, to right, up, and down. He wanted to make sure it was empty before he suggested to leave. "Fine. Let's go." He said.

Shadow yelled and landed on Koby. Alouna was right below Dona when she froze. Alouna jumped up, hitting Dona in the stomach with her head. Dona gagged for a split secona and swiped Alouna's head. It only left a cut on her left cheek. Shad was putting up a little fight, and Koby couldn't handle THAT.

Koby finally got himself to move and he tackled Shad onto the floor. Shad kicked him off and sprang up biting Koby's front leg. Koby continued to struggle while Dona and Alouna were putting up an even fight.

Alouna was more powerful, but Dona wouldn't go down. She slashed Alouna many times, and Alouna's face was bleeding all over. As she was going to take Alouna out, Alouna got up and bite Dona's snout. Dona screamed in terrible pain.

Shadow gave a final attack and Koby was out cold. He ran to help Alouna, who was still in a slight struggle. Shad took over and shoved his paw across Dona's face. She became knocked out, as well. With two unconcious killers on the den's floor, Alouna and Shadow raced outside. Blood dripped from Alouna's face as she ran, leaving the dirt stained with red guck. The rain would wash it away and dissolved it into the soil and mud.

From a distance, Saiige and Kuna saw everything. "Pity," Saiige said. "Those two weren't good enough for this task."

"Don't see why Lance even chose them," Kuna said.

Saiige gave a smirk of agreement.

Shadow froze, detecting that they were not alone. "What's wrong?" Alouna asked quickly and panting over her words.

"I feel like we're being watched.." Shadow responded as quick as Alouna had asked her question.

"So you guessed right," a voice said.

Shad's eyes grew big. He turned his head in every direction. "Who said that?" He demanded firmly.

"What? You and your friend don't recognize us?" Another said.

Alouna squinted her eyes and saw two of her enemies from puppy hood. "I thought you were gone!" She screamed.

"You think that a couple of tears in my life can kill me?" Kuna said. "You're even more stupid than you seemed then."

Shadow was beggining to get scared, now. "What do I do? How am I gonna get us out of this one??" He thought. He breathed heavily; these two seemed familiar, but he couldn't see how. Alouna appeared to know them, but Shad knew he had encountered them before.

"So whadaya say we make this fight easy; we just kill 'ya and see where it goes?" Saiige said with a cunning voice.

Kuna grinned and they both approached the two wolves, ready to kill them.

~Chapter 9: The Mysterious Wolf~

Shad's thoughts were interupted by a clap of thunder. Kuna and Saiige were distracted by the loud, deafening noise, and dropped their guard. Alouna and Shad ran out of sight. "Just our luck," Kuna said. The two walked off, knowing that they will fight another day.

Shad and Alouna panted wildly. Shad could hardly breathe from all that; he knew those wolves, but had no idea who they were, he had to fight harder than he ever had and he felt as if it was over. Alouna lay on the ground, more tired than she had ever been before.

"Amazing how much that fight took out of us," she said. Shad could not speak. He lay down as well, but fell asleep as soon as he did. "I don't know how he did that. He kept fighting and herdly got a scratch on him, but now he's tired and back there-"

She was interrupted by thunder. Alouna scrunched down a little and looked at the sky. Shadow still lay asleep. Alouna had calmed down a bit, but she was still shaking as she tried to fall asleep. Shadow was shaking all night, and all the next morning.

The next night, Shad was quiet and still. Alouna had wandered off and sat by a river. It had been raining last night and that morning, stopping by midday. The ground was still wet and Alouna's blood from their battle swept parts of the grass and soil. She had been on guard for anything that might jump out at her ever since. The battle was bad enough to scare even Shad! This was what got Alouna worried.

She, too, was quiet that night. Suddenly, she got the feeling that she was not alone. She turned around swiftly, ready to run or fight. She hoped with all her heart that Shad was trying to find her, and that neither of those brutes were trying to get to her. Her heart pounded heavily and quickly, once more. A figure stepped in front of her, but it was not a threat; it was a wolf who looked familliar. Once he came closer Alouna knew who he was.

"You.." She said. "You're the one who helped me escape those killers when I was a pup! I never got the chance to thank you...."

"We have no time to talk about your puppy hood now. You need to know something, though." The wolf said.

Alouna sat in front of him and listened.

"Listen closely," he said, "I can only say this once."

Alouna's eyes widened.

"Those wolves, the ones you ran from, are powerful. You'll have to face them someday." He said.

"When will that--"

The wolf gave her "a look" and Alouna stopped talking.

"I can't tell you; when you have to, you'll know."

Alouna gave a dull look. She never understood these things. Her expression gave the wolf a blank stare. There was silence and a somewhat humerous type of expression between the two.

"Well, you'll just know when it's time." He said. The wolf blinked and ran off as fast as a race horse, and as agile as a cheetah.

"Wait!" Alouna yelled. "How was that important?! Hey are you even listening??!"

The wolf was out of sight.

Alouna slowly walked back to her den. She understood, but was confused as well. Shad lay there waiting for her. His eyes were half open and half closed. He was tired and wanted her to hurry up so he could sleep. Alouna then walked into sight.

"There you are," Shad mumbled.

Alouna scoffed. "What?" She questioned. "Oh, yeah, Shad; that's nice. Just go mental 'cause I'm late. Pfff.." Alouna lay down near Shadow, and they both fell asleep after their tiering day.

~Chapter 10: War part 1- First Fight~

A week had passed from the duo's first attempt at battle. When Kuna and Saiige had informed Lance of this, he was furious. He then decided that Kuna and Saiige should go into battle with those two. Whoever won would say the losers' punishment, and will have control over the land. The brother and sister knew that the battle would get bloody; Alouna would put up a huge fight, more above good for a she-wolf, as good as Kuna=very good.

Shad was powerful and strong, which could make their battle a bit difficult. Together they seemed unstopable, but the day when they first encountered their threats, the cowered at the sight of Kuna and Saiige.

The night when the battle began was more unusual than it ever had been; the sky was dark, the full moon seemed bigger, but it showed less light, and the ground gave off a dark to light and in reverse shade. No shadows hung around, even if you walked directly in front of the light.

Shad sniffed the air.
