Mavik

Balto appears in this story, but it's not about him. My characters do interacting with him in this fiction though.

His father, Buck, had just brought home some food for him, his brother and sisters, and his mother, Starlight. Mavik was a shadow-coloured wolfdog with a white muzzle and paws. His brother, Ryan, was a golden yellow pup. Luna, his sister was pure white with a black tip on her tail and she had some silver shading. his other two sisters were Lily and Snow. Snow was pure white with no other marks and Lily was a spring shade of yellow.

As Mav and Luna were tugging each other on a stick, Ryan yelped in a fake, hurt voice. His mother ran to see him. Ryan looked as if a hunter had tried to kill him though that was not true. Snow was woken up from her nap by all of this and her brother and sister appeared outside. Their mother scolded Snow. She explained, " Momma I didn't touch him! He's faking!"

Star let out a small growl and turned. It appeared the she seemed to like the liar of the bunch the best. Mav, Luna, Lily and Snow were always getting blamed for things that Ryan does. They soon became sick of it and left their den going their seperate ways.

Buck had been killed three weeks before the pups were 8 weeks old. Therefore, he could not convince his mate to think about what happened. This was exactly what Ryan wanted.

Snow and Lily went to Jeuneau while Mavik and Luna went to Nome. Snow didn't last on the road; she and Lil were caught in a snowstorm and Snow froze to death. Lily managed to make it out but was captured by animal control. Because she looked more like a husky than a wolf, she was put up for adoption and quickly found a home. Mav and Luna had it a bit easy. They arrived in Nome two days after their departure and made a small den beside a dollar store. Their little home was made from empty, thrown-out cardboard boxes that once held large objects. There were 3 big ones and a couple of umbrellas for a roof with an old curtain hanger and curtain for a doggie-door. Luna and Mavik had quite a content life.

It is now 2 weeks later. The pups go to a large area and see Steele's father running in a race.

" What's this?" Luna asked.

" I don't know. Let's find out."

The two squeezed through many people and got to the very front where they were cut off by a rope. They knew that this was to keep them safe... but from what?

A sled team came in a distant veiw of the pups. Mav and Luna were facsinated by this. They had never seen such a thing before; a team pulling something with a human on it; amazing! They thought.

The race has ended and Mavik and Luna make their way through the crowd to go find a snack.

A spectacular sight that was. Mav thought. Luna was thinking of home. Did Starlight miss them? Probably not. What of Ryan? Luna could care less.

" Luna!" Mavik shouted frantically. " Look at that!" Luna stared at the black and white dog tormenting a brown wolfdog. The two looked about the same age as each other and the pups. There was also a light tan husky behind the black one. She didn't seem to be doing anything.

" Mav, we should do something---" Luna said but stopped to see her brother running towards the huskies. He tackled the black one and left the tan one be. The tan dog yelled, " Steele! Stop!" Luna came running up as well and asked, " What's going on!?"

The tan dog explained. Steele was knocked into a pile of snow as the tan one said, " Serves you right." Steele got up and bit her tail. Luna swiped at him as Mavik asked the wolfdog if he was ok.

" Yea I'm fine. And it's about time someone taught Steele a thing or two."

Luna smiled and said, " I'm Luna and the other wolfdog in my brother Mavik. Who are you?"

" Balto." He answered.

Mav was literally killing Steele (ok.. not TOO literally. What I mean is that he was hurting him). Steele's mother, Ala, heard this and got her mate, Luke, to stop the fight. Luke appeared in front of Steele and the tan pup. He said, " Seishiena, go home, Steele, stay put." Mavik stood angrilly at Luke as Luna showed small signs of fear. Luke was completely black with tan markings. He wore the golden collar around his neck. His snout met with Mavik's.

" You stay away from my pups." He said.

" Tell your pup to stay away from others. He's a bad influ..influ... something!" Mav said. Luke rose his head and snarled. He then kicked snow onto Mavik's face, Steele kicked a rock onto it. Balto stood next to Luna. Luna snuck behind Luke and clamped her jaws on his hind leg. Luke screamed in pain. Steele swiped at her, trying to get her off. Then, Balto slashed Steele's side when he wasn't paying attention.

An orange figure stood behind Balto. Luke growled at him. A red and cream puppy came out from behind him. She wore an orange bandana around her neck. She ran up to Steele.

" What's wrong with you?" She asked. " Why are you hurting these other puppies?"

"Jenna, I have my reasons. So--"

" Oh, really? Name one!"

Steele's eyes looked up and were quickly brought down. Then he said, " They're wolfdogs!"

Jenna rolled her eyes and walked away from Steele. She asked Balto what Steele did to him. After Balto's response, Jenna's father said that they had to go home. Jenna said that she enjoyed meeting them and that she hoped to see them again.

This made Luna and Mavik feel more welcome in Nome.

It is now that night. Balto invites Mavik and Luna to sleep with him in his boat.

Balto and Luna were sound asleep when Mavik looked at the stars. He sat outside on the deck with no expression on his face. At last he looked at his paws; bleeding and cold from the fight with Steele. He knew that he and Luna would never forget this day....... no matter how hard they tried.
