"I sense two of them have a high spirit awareness. Which two are they?" Botan asked.

Balto and Aleu stepped forward.

"Why are you two more aware of the spirit world?" Botan asked.

Balto replied, "Because my mother was the great Aniu."

"What are you doing here?" asked Botan.

"Kayko, I forgot to give this to you, Botan said.

She handed Kayko an earpiece that allowed her to hear what they were talking about.

"Wait a minute we never got your names," said Yusuke.

"Oh, sorry" Balto said. "My name is Balto, this is my mate Jenna and these are our four children Kodi, Dingo, Saba and Aleu."

"It's nice to meet all of you" Kayko said. "We talk about you in class at the school Yusuke and I attend."

"Really," Balto said.

"What you did was extremely brave."

"I just did what needed to be done," Balto said, embarassed.

"It is hard to believe you are still alive in 2003," Yusuke said.

"What!" Balto shouted.

"You mean to say it is not the year 1927?" Saba said.

You must have been brought seventy-six years into the future."

"We have got to get back home. The pack is probably wondering, especially Lakota, where we are," Aleu said.

"What do you mean by pack?" Kayko said.

"I lead a wolf pack not far from Nome."

"Why?" Kayko asked.

"Because I was the only one of my brothers and sisters that didn't get adopted."

"I'm sorry," Botan said.

"Don't worry about it. I have a great home and a wonderful mate," replied Aleu.

"I don't mean to break up this little conversation but we still need to find the demon energy belonging to this demon wolf called Shade." said Yusuke.

"He's right. We need to find Shade. There is no telling what he will do in this new place," Balto said.

"We'll help you find this demon wolf and we'll also try and help to get you back home," Yusuke said.

It seems we have made some new friends in this new world we came to," Jenna said.

Twenty miles west of where Balto and Yusuke were, Shade appeared in the alley behind a rundown building in the Shinjuku district.

Shade started to walk towards the street and had a wide smirk on his face.

"I'm going to have some fun in this place," Shade said, then laughed evilly. 

 

Chapter 3:The Dark Shadow

Tokyo, Japan 2003

Yusuke Urameshi, the spirit detective of earth and Balto, the gray-brown wolf-dog of Nome were discussing where Balto and his family could stay.

"Kayko do you think they could stay with you? That is, if your dad does not mind?" Yusuke asked.

"I don't think they can. They will probably eat all the food in the restaurant. Why don't they stay at your place?" Kayko said.

"What! you've got to be kidding. My mom would freak out if she saw four huskies and two wolves in our apartment. But she probably won't know since she is drunk most of the time."

"So we're going to stay with you?" asked Saba.

"I guess you are," Yusuke said.

All of a sudden Kodi perked his ears at the sound of some movement in the trees.

"I think we have someone following us," Kodi said.

"You could come out Hiei. I know it's you." Yusuke said.

Hiei jumped out of the tree he was in and landed in front of Jenna.

Jenna was afraid of Hiei and stayed close by Balto.

Just then Kurama and Kuwabara came up to the group.

"Hey Urameshi, who do this mutts belong to?" Kuwabara said.

"Who are you calling a mutt?" Aleu said.

"Ah! These dogs can talk," Kuwabara shouted.

"You idiot! Did you forget that you could hear them, since you are aware of the spirit world," Hiei said.

"Hiei did you detect the demon energy?" Yusuke said.

"Yeah, the source of the energy is standing right next to you," Hiei said.

"Sorry Hiei. I got these six mixed-up with the real demon. The energy belongs to the demon named Shade." Yusuke said.

"How could you make a mistake like that?" Kuwabara shouted.

Yusuke grabbed Kuwabara by his jacket.

"Listen dumb-ass, I didn't think I would make a serious mistake like this! I almost shot this nice family," Yusuke said.

"They're a family. Go figure," Kuwabara said.

"To put it so you can understand, the gray-brown wolf-dog is Balto, the reddish-cream color husky with the orange bandana, in human terms, is his wife, and the other four are their kids: Dingo, Saba, Kodi and Aleu," Yusuke said.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend the six of you," Kuwabara said.

"None taken," Balto said.

"Jenna, you don't need to be afraid anymore. They are also their friends," Balto said.

"It's not that. It is just the way that guy stares at you," Jenna said, pointing her head towards Hiei.

"Don't worry about Hiei. He is like that with everyone, including the four of us," Yusuke said.

"What do you mean?" Kodi asked.

Yusuke replied, "Before he was helping stop demons who cause trouble he actually caused trouble when I first met him. I guess he still has his old ways still inside of him."

Suddenly Balto could sense that they were being watched.

"Someone is following us again."

Saba saw a tall man standing across the street. She told Yusuke.

Yusuke turned around and started to shake as if he was very terrified of this person.

The tall man approached the twelve and looked directly at Yusuke.

"Long time, no see, Yusuke."

"To- To- Toguro! I thought you were dead," Yusuke said with a scared tone.

"I toyed with you so you would think that you could defeat me easily. What are these animals doing with you? You trying to start a day-care for dogs?" Toguro said.

"You leave them alone." Kayko said.

"I see you brought your little girlfriend with you, Urameshi."

Yusuke turned around and saw the Elder Toguro standing behind Jenna while holding her bandana.

Balto let out a growl.

"You let her go," Balto growled.

"Ha! Why should I let someone go when she might die," Elder Toguro laughed.

Aleu jumped at the Elder Toguro, trying to see if he would eventually release his hold on her mother, but his arm turned into a sword and he slashed at Aleu, leaving a deep gash on her side.

"Ow! Di- Did Shade put you two up to this?" Aleu said in pain.

"Who are you talking about? We don't know anyone by the name of Shade," Elder Toguro said.

While the Elder Toguro was talking to Aleu he didn't notice Balto jump at him, causing him to release his hold on Jenna. He reacted quickly by grabbing Balto's right front leg and breaking it.

"Ah!" Balto screamed in pain.

"Balto!" Jenna shouted.

Jenna ran to Balto's side to try to help him stand.

Yusuke noticed that Balto was injured and he jumped in between Balto and Jenna and Elder Toguro.

"You leave them alone," Yusuke warned.

"And if I don't?" he said.

"This. Shotgun!" Yusuke shouted.

His right fist started to glow and it looked like hundred of bullets were shooting from his hand.

All the others moved away from Yusuke's attack while it struck both Toguro brothers.

"This isn't over, Urameshi. You will die one of these days," said Younger Toguro.

After they left, they went to see how Balto and Aleu were doing after this brief encounter with Yusuke's enemies.

"I think we should get you two to the vet to get fixed up," Kayko said.

When they arrived at the vet, they rushed Aleu in since she took a good hit on the side.

"Oh my god! What happened to this animal?" the doctor said.

"Someone attacked her with a sword, and this one here has a broken leg," Kayko said.

"I'll see what I can do for them," the doctor said.

Twenty minutes later the doctor led Aleu and Balto out of the office and into the lobby.

"These two did pretty well, I want you to give this medicine to the both of them to ease the pain," the doctor said.

When they left the building, Yusuke was wondering how they were doing.

"How do you feel?" Yusuke said.

"I feel like I was hit by a truck," Balto said.

"Who were those two guys who attacked us?" Dingo asked.

"They're known as the Toguro brothers and I thought that they were dead because Kuwabara and I fought them. We eventually got a sword put through the Younger Toguro's stomach," Yusuke said.

"I hope that was the last time we see the two of them," Saba said.

With thier battle with Yusuke over for now, the Elder Toguro was angry.

"Why didn't I just kill the girl who was with him?"

"Because, brother, I am trying to come up with a plan to try to kill Urameshi," Younger Toguro said.

"What was with those animals? The two I fought had a high spirit awareness."

In the shadows a dark figure was listening in on the conversation when they were close by, he stepped out.

"Who are you?" Elder Toguro said.

"My name is Shade and I see you encountered my enemy Aleu and her family."

"So you are the one she talked about."

I overheard that you attacked them and some people with them and injured Aleu and her father," Shade said.

"That's right," Toguro said.

"I can help you if you want help with Balto and his family, And you can take care of
