Shad's Ancestors

Shad's Ancestors

By. rockyjet

Shad is a character who you will read about in an up-coming story of mine. He is a tough, "I can do it on my own" type of wolf. This is the story of his ancestor, Shamus's, life. It goes from puppy hood to death. Rated PG for the action. Enjoy!

:~Part 1~:

~Chapter 1~

"Hey, Shamus, wake up!" His sister, Suzy, nudged him on the snout. The black pup opened his eyes with an annoyed look. He hated being woken up. Especially by his good-for-nothing sister. Suzy was light gray with black ears and a black tip on her tail. Shamus was all black with amber eyes.

They had a sister named Daisy was well. She got her name by her light shade of yellow and blue eyes. Their mother was Mylan, a pure golden and yellow she-wolf with glistening sea blue eyes. Their father was Akara, he was dark gray with amber eyes and black ears and tail tip with light gray markings.

Their parents were the Betas; Mylan was the Beta Sea and Akara was the Beta Snow. (I know nothing about those ranks, but they're second in command). Comet, their puppy-sitter, and a skilled one, was the lowest Omega, or the wolf with the lowest position. His brother, Tajal, was also an Omega. (Those two are not main characters, so they don't get good descriptions lol).

"Comet, keep a good eye on them. Especially Shamus; he's known to get into things in case---"

"I think I know, Akara, Sir.." Comet replied, seeing Shamus digging the dirt, trying to see if there was "puppy nip" like Tajal had joked. Comet had a blank stare on his face.

"Tajal!" he yelled.

"What? I thought he knew that there was no such thing."

Comet growled and continued watching the pups. Comet was a little more responsible while his brother should stay an Omega. Comet deserved to be a Subdornate.

"Ok, Shamus, I think the dirt surrenders." And with that, he picked up the puzzled puppy and set him down with his sisters. Shamus hated being the only boy pup. No one to relate to. Then they found ways to entertain themselves; Daisy pulled Shamus on a stick and Suzy tried to climb a tree.

"Comet," Comet turned to see Tajal.

"I-I'm sorry 'bout Sham. I thought h-h-he knew.."

Comet sighed and said, "It's ok. Don't do that again. I could--- WE could get banned from puppy-sitting and I really like doing this."

"I-I-I'm reeally sorry; I didn't know h-how important this is to you or-or else I wouldn't have done it...."

Tajal drooped his head slightly and Comet put a paw on his brother's back.

"It's ok." he said. "I understand."

The pups continued playing as Comet saw something in his mind; he saw danger.

A storm was pictured in his mind. He didn't tell his brain to do this; it just did. The storm showed the pack seperated into the tiniest groups. He took a deep breath and pushed his vision aside, concentrating on the pups.

~Chapter 2~

"Go around to the left!" Akara ordered. Elias ran East of Mylan, who was conducting the she-wolves. The wolves were on their evening hunt. The sunset was in motion and the herd of wild cattle was driven mad. One of the she-wolves, Ali, ran behind one of the weaker ones and pounced on it, knocking it over with a loud thud. Elias, her mate, joined her and helped to finish it off. The Alpha-male, Bounchai, herded the strays into range as Akara led the hunters-in-training over to the borders the started and ended the plains. There they would guard all exits so the wild cattle could not escape.

The Alpha-female, Clara, panted and sat for a quick moment and then continued her part of the hunt. Clara was very close to Akara; they had known each other since puppy hood and when they grew up, they went their seperate ways. Clara was pure white with a black tip on her tail and gray shading spots. She also had a hair tuft on her forehead that covered her right eye.

Bounchai was dark brown with white ears and a necklace of string with iron "teeth" that he claimed he won in a fight as a Subdornate. He was just, gruff and powerful with a loving heart. As they say, Looks are Deceiving.

Gulls flew above head, casting a shadow on the ground. Wolf and cattle shadows overlapped it and moved swiftly throughout the plains. Bounchai growled and let out a shrill bark to say, "You have met your match".

The cattle would not stop trying to escape, despite Bounchai's being right. Clara and Elias finnished off what they could as the few remaining cattle of that drive (there are many more) raced off when the wolf pack decided "that's enough for today".

The pack brought home what the others could handle, for they had eaten a few scraps before setting for home. Shamus, his sisters, Tajal, Comet, and every other Subdornate, Omega and pup ate along with what could fill Betas, Alphas, warriors and those in training.

As they went to sleep, Comet had the same vision; the one of the storm. He saw Daisy and her friend, Mirah, safe with Clara and Elias and Ali, but Shamus and Suzy were seperated, as in very far from their pack: their family. He didn't see anyone else, but he was even more worried this time; could he be right? Could the pack and neighbouring animal groups be in danger? If he told what he thought, would he be ignored?

He had no time to think, for it knocked him out cold. He drifted off to sleep, and the storm, the danger, everything gently left his mind, and it did not return.

~Chapter 3~

The spirit looked down on her family. She was black with a yellow cresent moon on her forehead that glowed white during the night or whenever it was dark. Her friend approached her and said, "They're in trouble, aren't they?"

She nodded slowly. "I don't know for sure, but I sense it."

"Seishena," he said. "Go and help them. You know they are in some kind of trouble."

"Agorn, you and I both know that it is impossible for a spirit to go down to the mortal world. And it is not Spirit Day.

"Sei-"

"I know; I wish I could, too. But I am afraid it is impossible, Agorn."

Agorn let his head droop and walked off slowly. Seishena continued looming over the pack. Somehow she told Bounchai that he had to tell the pack to move onward. Bounchai didn't know why, but he always listend to the spirits; for they ruled the wilderness.

Seishena wanted peace to her family; the wolves of Vancouver, Canada, to live in peace among the land, creatures and all that inhabit the world. It was her life-long dream and she had failed to complete it in her life time, so now it was up to her pack. It was up to them to live her dream. They are her only hope.

~Chapter 4~

The next evening, Clara was walking through their territory when she saw an unusual sight; storm clouds. They were larger than they should be and seemed to be more powerful than any other storm. They were approaching fast, too.

Clara ran rapidly to her pack shouting, "DANGER! THERE'S A POWERFUL STORM APPROACHING; THE MOST POWERFUL THERE EVER WAS! GET TO SAFETY NOW!!"

These words were all it took to get every wolf moving. A fox raised its head from a nap and let out a small yelp as it ran for safety itself. All animals did this: birds, foxes, bears, mountain lions, wolves and so on.

Shamus didn't run; he wanted to face the storm. Akara grasped him in his mouth and carried him to the pack.

"What did you think you were doing?! That storm can kill you!" His father yelled.

A flash of lightening appeared and everyone let out a sign of fear. Bounchai was still in the storm, though. He was risking his life to find any strays that were seperated. This storm was hitting many other parts of Canada, surprisingly, though, only the forests.

Shamus managed to sneak outside when alls' backs were turned. Suzy, wanting to be brave like him, followed.

Shamus didn't want pack life; he wanted to be on his own. Darting through wet, slippery vines, over rocks, under tree branches and through lightening-stricken feilds, Shamus ran with no fear with Suzy seceretly following behind.

Bounchai howled in the distance and Shamus froze; so did his sister, and she hid, for Shamus could turn around and see his curious sister. Breathing heavily, Shamus ran again. Thunder crashed and lightening caused Shamus's dark coat to shine like gold. Suzy never turned back; she wanted freedom, too. They would risk anything to get it. All Shamus could hear was his heartbeat pounding wildly; though he was brave, he was scared out of his mind at this point.

Rain splattered against his snout as he ran. It and the lightening blinded his amber eyes and the thunder appeared to make the Earth shake. Suzy, panting and tired, would not go back; if Shamus can do it, so can I. She thought to herself. She kept running, making sure to be a distance from her brother.

Suddenly, Suzy fell and could not get up. She, apparently, tripped on some of the debris from remains of trees, bushes etc. Suzy struggled to move, then she finally risked her brother knowing that she followed him.

"SHAMUS!! HELP!!" She cried. Shamus slid to a stop, his heart beating faster and heavier than it ever had. He heard her cry again. "SHAMUS!" He quickly turned and ran towards her voice. Finally he found her! He asked, "What's wrong?!"

"I can't get up! Help!"

Shamus quickly searched around her and found a tree branch with vines and two humongous leaves. It would make a fine stretcher for her.

"Here." He said, and lifted her on. Then he slipped into
