the main street.
"I just wish there was something that would put Lance in the clear" Doc said. "I mean, I don't like this anymore than Balto does"
Kaltag nodded "I know Doc, but we can't deny the facts"
"I know, and that's what makes it so difficult" Doc replied.
Kaltag suddenly came to a halt. Doc turned round.
"What's wrong?" he asked. Kaltag picked something up off the floor.
"Look at this" he held something out in front of him. Doc moved closer. In Kaltag's paw was a collar, the leather band bitten straight through. As Doc looked closer, he saw that the band was coated in dried blood.
"Where did you find that?" he asked.
Kaltag gestured to the area of ground he had picked the collar up from "Round there"
Doc's brow furrowed, and he padded up to a nearby water barrel. As he leant down, he saw something in the snow underneath. He looked up sharply.
"Kaltag, help me tip this thing over"
Kaltag frowned "Why?"
Doc gripped the barrel "I've got a hunch...and I'm not sure I like it"
With Kaltag's help, the barrel was lifted onto it's side. With a final push, it was tipped over. The lid came off as water gushed out onto the floor. Something heavy and wet slid out of the barrel.
"Oh...my...God" Kaltag stammered.
On the floor, it's once silver coat stained in blood, was the body of a female husky. Doc looked down at his paw, still clutching the collar.
The name tag read...Jewel.

"Almost done...just hold still for a little longer"
Dingo hissed as Heather's tongue continued to lick at his wounds. This time had been the worst, and he didn't know how much more he would be able to take before Frost succeeded in killing him.
But he knew one thing. Whaever it took, he would get out. And Heather and Elliot would be coming with him. No matter what it took.
"There. That's the best I can do" Heather got to her feet.
Dingo smiled faintly "Thanks"
Elliot walked up to them. Dingo could tell that Elliot was still smarting from his last session with Frost, judging by the way he was limping slightly and from the bruising round his cheeks.
"We've gotta do something Dingo. I don't know how much more I can take" he sighed, wincing as he put his front paw down on the floor.
Dingo just nodded, finding it painful even doing that. Heather nuzzled him.
"I don't know how you can just take it. You must be in so much pain" she licked away a bit of blood oozing from his shoulder.
Dingo sighed "That's an understatement. I just..." he began to cry. "I just don't know what to do"
Heather lay down beside him and rubbed against him gently.
"It's okay Dingo, we're all in this together. Remember?"
Dingo nodded, and was more than surprised when Heather leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. He looked up, and felt their noses make contact. Heather pulled away quickly.
"Sorry" she said, looking at the floor in embarrassment.
Dingo felt his cheeks burn "No...no don't apologise. I...I liked it"
Heather smiled and nuzzled him. Elliot raised his eyebrows.
"Er...Heather?" he looked questionably at her.
Heather got to her feet and walked up to him "Elliot, I...I really like him"
Elliot chuckled "Looks like it"
Heather sighed "I just hope he can pull through. He's really suffering"
Elliot nodded "I know. I hope so too"
Both siblings turned round towards Dingo. He was fast asleep.

In the dimness of the gantry, Frost stared at the hanging ropes as they moved side to side in the light breeze. His brow furrowed as he looked down over the gantry, a single tear coming to his eye.
He let out a sigh as memories came flooding back to him...
--------------------------------------------
Frost felt as if his lungs would burst as he continued to pump through the thick snow underfoot. In front of him, a black blur continued to run almost effortlessly through the crisp Alaskan wilderness.
"Carver, I can't keep up!" he panted, each breath burning his chest.
Carver laughed "What's the matter little bro? Can't keep up with a pro?"
Frost felt his leg give way, and he fell to the floor gasping for breath, a spray of snow momentarily blinding him.
Carver came to a stop, and slowly padded towards his fallen brother, a smug smirk on his face.
"I win, again!" he chuckled. Frost got to his feet, his face flushed.
"Don't...get...any ideas. You couldn't beat me...in a fair fight" he gasped, his chest still aching.
Carver raised an eyebrow "What? You think you could beat me in a fight?"
Frost shook his head "Forget it"
"No, no! You want a fight little bro?" Carver smirked.
"No" Frost replied.
Carver chuckled "What's the matter? Afraid I'll hurt you?"
"No," Frost said. "I'm afriad I'd hurt you" he smirked.
Carver gasped in mocked shock, before a sick grin plastered his face "Oh yeah?"
Before Frost could react, Carver grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and began to shake him. Frost scrunched his eyes shut as Carver shook him in sharp, jerky movements.
"Give up?" Carver smirked.
Frost, with his eyes still shut, lashed out, and grabbed Carver around the waist.
"Not a chance!" he yelled, before spinning round. Both canines were sent sprawling along the ground, rolling over until they came to a stop. Frost pinned Carver down.
"I win!" he smirked in triumph.
Carver looked up, and started laughing.
"Not bad! Not bad at all!" he rolled out from underneath Frost. He lay a paw round his shoulders.
"You keep that up, and you'll be as good as me. Well...almost" he ruffled the fur on Frost's head.
Just then, a wolf appeared rom the foliage and padded up to the two canines.
"Desna wants you back at the cave. Now"
Carver sighed, a frown on his face "Tell him we'll be back in a minute"
The wolf nodded, before padding back into the foliage. Carver growled.
"That guy really pisses me off sometimes"
Frost nodded "Why can't...why can't we just leave the clan? Get him out from underneath us?"
Carver smirked "Oh we will Frost. And then...the real fun begins"
Sick grins spread across their faces, both brothers walked into the foliage.
--------------------------------------------
Frost snapped back into reality as the memory faded. Lifting a paw to his cheek, he felt it stained with tears.
"I'll make him pay Carver. I guarantee it"
With a growl, Frost padded down the gantry and towards the cell.
He had only one thing on his mind. Murder.
--------------------------------------------
Balto and Jenna were approaching the entrance to the cave, Toby running excitedly between them.
"So, when do I get to meet my new wolf relatives?" the pup asked, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
Balto smiled at him "Soon enough"
"Blimey! I've got relatives who are wolves!" Toby grinned, his tail wagging excitedly.
The three dogs walked up to the entrance, where a familiar wolf was standing on guard.
"Balto! Jenna!" Chris smiled as they approached.
"Hi Chris. We're here to see Chester" Jenna said.
Chris nodded "Sure thing. Follow me" he gestured inside the cave.
The family walked inside, Chris in front. Toby stared round in wonder.
"Wow! This place is huge!"
"Who's the little guy?" Chris asked. Balto smiled.
"He's our son"
"So, how are things between you and Saba?" Jenna asked.
Chris smiled "Pretty good actually. I think she's getting used to life in the pack"
Jenna smiled "Thank you Chris"
After a few moments, they came into a large chamber. A black husky was standing in the centre.
"Balto!" Chester beamed as they approached, which faded as he saw the expressions on his faces. "What's wrong?"
Balto sighed "It's Lance"
--------------------------------------------
"What kind of...monster would do such a thing?" Kaltag stammered.
Doc sighed, his eyes never wavering from the gruesome sight on the floor. Jewel's body, or what was left of it.
"Well, at least we know one thing" Kaltag looked up.
"What's that?" Doc asked.
"We know Lance is innocent. There's no way he could have committed this murder as well as the one in the boiler room" Kaltag replied.
Doc nodded "I think, that we've been looking at this crime completely the wrong way round. I don't think Lance committed that murder"
"Balto will be relieved" Kaltag smiled faintly.
Doc sighed "Yes, but I don't think he'll ever forgive me. Not after...what I did"
Kaltag nodded "Well, lets just hope its not too late to fix all this"
--------------------------------------------
"WHAT!?" Chester yelled. "Balto, please tell me you are joking!"
Balto sighed "I wish I was Chester. But Lance has been accused of murder, and unless we find a way to prove his innocence...well, it doesn't bear thinking about"
Chester shook his head "But...but this is just nuts! I chose Lance for the team myself! And, if there's one thing Lance is not...it's a

I liked this one as well as the others Now I know the history of
The Pack, but good, you left room for another sequel! I just hope it
doesn't start out with murders again...no offense but it's getting
kind of old. And WHAT'S gonna happen to Vance??! I still remember what
Grant did to him in Return Threat! Anyhoo, keep up the good work,
chum!![]() |
