said proudly.

The cheers built up into a roar as the team finally crossed the finish line. “And in first place is our own team, led by the famous Dingo!” shouted the announcer.

Before he realized what was happening, Dingo was being mobbed by a crowd of ecstatic dogs and people. He couldn’t help but smile as he heard the crowd chanting his name.

Saba soon worked her way through the crowd and got close enough to Dingo to talk to him. “You pulled it off, big bro!” she shouted. “You won!”

Dingo immediately spotted his sister and smiled. “I know, and I still can’t believe it,” he called out to her. “We would have never guessed that we were in first!”

Saba laughed. “Didn’t you know that you were winning?”

Dingo shook his head. “We had no clue,” he said. “The other teams were…well, it’s a long story. I’ll tell you about it later.” Then he was swept away by the crowd.

Dingo was surrounded with many familiar faces and some unfamiliar but still happy ones. He saw his family, his friends, and…

Dingo’s heart skipped a beat as he saw the one person in the crowd he had been aching for the most. Could it really be…? It was. Liko was in the crowd, looking at Dingo with a smile. He had never seen her look so proud or happy before.

As Dingo was looking upon his friends, his family, and especially his mate, he felt happier than he ever had before. He was home. And he wasn’t going to leave again…at least for a while.

Epilogue

The other teams in the race all made it safely back to Nome within a few days of the Nome team’s arrival. (No one is quite sure of the order that they made it back in.)

Dingo was once again in the spotlight for a few weeks, but eventually he returned to living a normal life with Liko. He decided to settle down for good and not run in any more sled team races because of his heart problems. He still lived with Jason and Sandy’s family, even though they were offered incredible amounts of money for him. However, they always refused. “I would take Dingo over a million dollars any day,” Sandy once said.

After a visit to the vet shortly after Dingo’s return, Saba discovered that she was pregnant with her first litter of pups. She and Josh were ecstatic-they couldn’t have been more excited about becoming parents.

Matteo and Sam became good friends and ran in many more sled team races together.

Yes, all was peaceful in Nome again, and this time it was going to stay that way…for a while. After all, things never stay the same forever. But that’s a different story…

Well, that’s the end of this story. Make sure to read Celebration (which is coming soon) to see what will happen in Nome next!
