searching for clues.’’

Suddenly, Brent came across something.

‘’Eureka!’’ he exclaimed. Everyone ran over and stared at the small object on the ground.

‘’What is it?’’ Jenna asked. Brent smiled.

‘’It’s a hair Jenna,’’ he answered, ‘’this will determine our criminal and kidnapper.’’

‘’And how exactly are you planning on doing that?’’ Tramp questioned. Brent reached into his small reserve pack he had brought with him and pulled out a microscope.

‘’Do you always bring a microscope with you?’’ Balto asked. Brent grinned and said, ‘’is Pi infinite?’’

Balto slapped his forehead.

‘’Oh boy.’’ He muttered. Brent placed the hair under the microscope and peered into the small lens.

‘’Well, from what I can gather, this hair came from a timber wolf. He’s way into adulthood, around 32 to 39 years old. Brown fur. He was carrying something heavy; I can tell because the hair is bent. This was one of the hairs that the object was sitting on.’’

‘’Okay Mr. Smart-Ass,’’ Tramp remarked, ‘’let’s check out that letter.’’

Brent growled in his throat. Tramp was starting to annoy him. Balto examined the letter. There was a strange green slime dripping from on corner of the piece of paper. Balto showed the paper to Brent, who blinked and gasped.

‘’Don’t touch that stuff!’’ he yelled, making Balto drop the letter.

‘’What’s the matter with you Brent,’’ Balto asked angrily, ‘’you nearly gave me a heart-attack!’’

Brent bent down and pointed at the slime.

‘’That is Continuplasm.’’ He replied.

‘’Continu-what?’’ everyone questioned. Brent smiled once again.

‘’This slime only appears where someone has gone back in time. I think our perp is a time-traveler.’’ He explained. Tramp threw his paws into the air.

‘’This is just flippin’ perfect,’’ he retorted, ‘’how are we going to find Angel now?’’

Brent ripped a small amount of paper off the letter and said, ‘’we go back to my lab, that’s how.’’

Brent’s lab, twenty minutes later…

Brent placed the paper into a beaker of red liquid.

‘’Everyone stay back,’’ he warned as he placed his goggles over his eyes, ‘’this stuff is very unpredictable.’’

Brent then reached over to another test tube full of a clear liquid. The label on the tube read IODINE SULPHATE. Steadying his paw, Brent let one sole drop fall into the beaker. The result was a small explosion. Balto and the other shielded their eyes; and when the smoke cleared, Brent was covered from head to hind paws in black soot.

‘’Well, that proved one thing,’’ Brent said, ‘’I should never mix Iodine sulfate and Sodium phosphate.’’

‘’What about the paper?’’ Tramp questioned.

Brent turned around and checked the blackened ash that used to be the paper. Scooping up the ash, he dropped it into another beaker.

‘’It this ash reacts with this liquid I’m about to pour in, then my hunch is correct.’’ Brent explained. All his friends dove behind the stairs for protection. Brent carefully grabbed a small test tube full of a yellowish liquid. Taking a deep breath, he poured it into the beaker. It shook and produced a small cloud of smoke. Brent jumped into the air yelled, ‘’Hell yeah! I was right!’’

‘’Let me guess,’’ Tramp retorted, ‘’you found out the perp’s location.’’

‘’I found out the perp’s location!’’ Brent yelled, unaware of Tramp’s question. Balto walked up and asked, ‘’then where is he?’’

Brent smiled and explained, ‘’this paper sample reacted with sodium oxide. The only paper that reacts with that chemical was discontinued by the turn of the century. That places this paper within the 1890s, around 1895. I think it’s my adversary up to his old tricks again. Those artifacts will be just another addition to his vast collection. We’ve gotta stop him! I think Balto and Tramp should come with me. Ginger, you and Jenna head back to the Museum and make sure nothing else is taken. If you need to, give that bastard the artifacts, but don’t let him scare you. Ginger, do you remember those moves I taught you?’’

Ginger smiled and swung her paw at Brent’s face, which dodged.

‘’Of course.’’ She answered. Brent chuckled.

‘’Quick and agile, just as I taught you.’’ He replied and brought out his old Time Warper 2000. Dusting it off, Brent set the year on the destination keypad. He turned to Jenna.

‘’Do you remember the date on the letter?’’ he asked. Jenna thought for a few minutes and said, ‘’April 26th I think.’’

Brent smiled and set the date:

April 26th 1895, 9:38 PM

Pressing the portal creation button, Brent gave Ginger a small kiss.

‘’Stay safe.’’ She replied. Brent grinned and jumped through the portal. Balto waved and did the same. Tramp was unsure, but he took a running charge. Unfortunately, the portal closed and Tramp went headlong into a shelf, knocking himself out. Both Brent and Balto had no idea what had happened, or what was about to.

London England, Thames river, 1895

A small steamship puffed up the river. It is nighttime and a fog is beginning to roll in. On the waterfront, a vortex opened and Brent and Balto were spewed out onto the docks. Brent stood up and took a deep berth. “Ah, London smog. Just as I remember it.” Balto sniffed the air. “Smells like a toilet bowl!” he growled. He then looked around. “Say ware is Tramp?” Brent looked also. “I don’t know. Good thing too, he was beginning to get on my nerves.” Balto shook his head. “I will admit he is acting strange. Tramp isn’t normally so annoying. I hope he is Ok.” “He might be upset over Angel’s kidnapping.” Brent sead as he scanning the harbor. “But I have a feeling he’ll be fine.” Brent then looked over the river at a line of barges moored to the docks. “Come on I believe my office is around here somewhere.” Balto gave Brent a funny look. “I thought we shouldn’t go looking for ourselves. Aren’t you afraid of running into yourself?” Brent shook his head no. “this was a month after I left this time period. My office should be empty.” He turned and walked past the warehouses.

A block of offices downtown London.

Brent walked down a hallway. “Ah here it is.” He opened a door. Inside was a large drafting room. Men wear gathered around a table. A red flag with a white star on it hung from the ceiling. The men turned and looked at Brent. “Oh sorry, wrong office.” He shut the door. Balto laughed. “Can’t you read.” He pointed his paw to the door. Written were the words: WHITE STAR STEAMSHIP CO. Brent moved to the next office and opened it.

Brent’s office was dimly lit. The shades were drawn letting in little natural light. Balto coughed on the dust. “God what were you? A hermit.” Brent smiled. “It’s a detective thing to have dimly lit offices.” He sat down in his chare. “First I got to look up the Confederation pirates and see if I have a file on them. I try to keep a file on every crook gang in the area.” He started looking threw the files.

Meanwhile Jenna also was looking threw files at the museum. Ginger was going threw safes searching for the artifacts. “I got everything except the pocket watch.” Ginger sead. Jenna put down he file. “Well duh. A pocket watch from the Arizona is hard to come by. You see taking one would be decimating a war grave.” Ginger frowned. “We need that pocket watch.” She said. Jenna leaned back in her chare. “Way ahead of ya. As we speck on the island of Owaho My doughtier Aleu is diving on the wreck of the Arizona to find a watch. I’m shire the sailor would understand.” Ginger looked at the clock. “I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about this.”

Pearl Harbor Hawaii

Also meanwhile, on the bottom of pearl harbor Aleu swam threw the muddy waters. Beneath her, looming like a behemoth was the wreck of the USS Arizona. Aleu took one last look at the broken wreck before surfacing. Above the world was at night. Aleu splashed the water in fury. “Five thousand pounds of ship and no pocket watch to be found.” She floated for a few seconds. Then dove back down again. This was her fifth time tonight. She had yet to find the watch. As she dove down she didn’t realize that a wolf was watching.

Aleu dog paddled over the wreck. The only sound was the hiss of bubbles escaping her teeth from the air regulator. Underwater the ship felt like a shrine. Its rusting twisted mettle reaching out in jagged tortured fingers. Aleu swam up the railing and breasted with the deck. Her eyes scanning the deck.
