going to be living with us now. "

Skyler: ( looks at Raven questionably ) "Really? So why is this ?"

Zeeke: "It's a tragic tale, and just to sum it up: Both her mother and father are

gone. Her mother was killed by her father this morning, and then he ran off."

Skyler:" Well, I'm sorry, little one..."

Kida: "Oh, it's Kida."

Skyler: "Kida, what a lovely name...yet...that name somehow rings a bell...well, anyway, things are only going to get better from here. Let's start off with

a good hunt!"

Kida: "Uh, hunt?!? But I was never taught how to hunt before!"

Raven: "That's fine, dear! Zeeke will show you the basics. After all, me and Skyler are the only ones who

actually go for the kill."

Kida:" But, I've never even left my cave ALONE before!"

Zeeke:"Mom, she has a point! I'm four weeks older than she is!"

Raven:"Well, it's never too early to start learning!"

Zeeke: "Ok, then, LETS GO!!! We don't want to miss out on all the action at the hunting grounds!"

Skyler:" Hold on, son! The elk aren't going anywhere! There plentiful this season!"

 

 

As planned, the four wolves headed out the cave toward the deeper part of the

 

woods. This is where the

 

"hunt" usually takes place. Many wolves come in and out this part of the forest,

 

comming and going as

 

they please, usually bloody and carrying carcases for dinner. Zeeke's family

 

decided the easiest pray to hunt

 

 

this time of spring was elk, since hunters usually leave scraps and bones behind.

 

Nearly at the hunting spot, 

the pups get pretty restless and decide to go wander off on there own. The parents

 

were both unaware of this,

 

since Kida and Zeeke mannaged to sneek away silently.

 

 

Kida: "Are you sure we should've ran off like that, without even telling your parents?"

Zeeke: " Sure, I do this kind of stuff all the time, I never get in trouble!"

Kida: "Ok, but you have to promiss me we won't get into ANY trouble..."

Zeeke: "I promiss..."

 

 

Meanwhile, Raven and Skyler were on the trail of an elk nearby. Tuning

 

around to notifiy the pups, Raven's

 

suddenly startled to find them missing...

 

Raven:" SKYLER!!! Oh no, the pups! We have to go back and find them!"

Skyler:" Quick, let's retrace our tracks around the woods!"

 

 

Nearby, a huge grizzly was eying the pups drawing nearer and nearer towards

 

his hiding place.

 

 

Kida: (runs away playfully ) "Come on Zeeke, catch me if you can..."

Zeeke: (begins to chase her, then pauses) "Shhhh, wait... do you hear something? I swore I heard....footsteps...."

Kida: "Yeah, I...I hear them...Zeeke, I'm scared! I want to go back with your parents..."

Zeeke:" No, stay where you are...otherwise, whatever it is might come after us."

Kida: ( shuddering )" Zeeke... "

 

 

Suddenly, the grizzly came rushing through the bushes, growling and

 

foaming at the mouth.

 

Kida shreaked and Zeeke stepped in front of her protectivly, even though he was as

 

frightened as she was. In a second, they came to their senses and sped off towards a

 

nearby bush to escape the bear.

 

The bear was still charging towards them when Raven and Skyler appeared.

 

Immediately, the two wolves dodged

 

the bear's deadly slashes and went towards the pups to save them. In the corner of

 

his eye, he saw the four getaways. He

 

 

charged and pawed towards Raven. She jumped atop the bear's back to get a good

 

hold on him while Skyler was leading the pups to safety. Skyler and the pups raced

 

towards a thicket in the woods. Skyler stopped, then

 

told the pups to run and don't turn back. Kida obeyed without argument, but

 

Zeeke couldn't bear to leave his

 

parents in jeopardy. There was nothing he could do, but hope for a miracle. Zeeke

 

disobeyed and ran to catch up with his father. He felt a hard thud as he hit the

 

ground after tripping on a tree root. He had a huge slash on his paw where he had

 

tripped. Limping towards a nearby berry bush, he hid his face in the grass and

 

prayed that everything would be alright. He lifted his head and saw something he

 

dreaded to see. His mother was lying on the ground, lifless and coverded in leaves

 

and blood.The bear and Skyler were still going

 

 

at it, and nearby a hunter was walking throught the woods. He saw what was

 

happening, and he decided

 

 

there was a chance he could save this wolf. He silently loaded his gun, and

 

carefully pointed it towards the

 

blur of black and brown. He couldn't get a clear shot, but tried at his own will.

 

He fired, and within that second

 

he was shocked at what he had just done. He had shot the bear, but to his

 

disbelief, he had also shot the black

 

 

wolf he tried to save.

 

He was sad to learn that even with his

 

help, there was no luck for the

 

 

wolf now. Then, out of a berry bush, he heard a small whimper. He followed the

 

sound, and pulled back the

 

branch. He frowned at what was sat in front him. A small, black wolf was

 

whimpering underneath the bush.

 

 

It was obvious to him that the wolf he had killed and the one in front of him were

 

related. He

 

 

noticed the large slash on his paw, then pulled out a white roll of bandage. He

 

lifted the pup's paw, and gently

 

wrapped it with the soft cloth. He was very careful not to hurt Zeeke, and Zeeke

 

was grateful. The wound was

 

still bleeding madly, staining the bandage red.

 

Hunter:" So, you lost your parent's, huh? I'm sorry little guy, I only wanted to help. Your on your own now, it

seems. Good luck."

 

Without looking back, the hunter slowly walked out of sight. Zeeke stepped out

 

into the open to observe the battle scene. He looked on to see his mother and

 

father lying on the ground, still bleeding from their wounds.

 

 

Tears were racing down his soft, black fur. He crept closer to his father, then laid

 

by his side. A few distances

 

 

away, Kida heard the sudden silence and turned back to see what had happened.

 

The bear, Raven, and Skyler were

 

 

all lifeless on the ground. Zeeke turned toward her, and looked at her with grief.

 

 

Zeeke: "My fault.... it was all my fault. There dead because of me! I... I should have NEVER left their sight. No, now

their ALL GONE!!!"

Kida: "Zeeke..."

Zeeke: " If I hadn't snuck off, they wouldn't have to look for me, we would have never ran into that bear,

they wouldn't have to save us, and they wouldn't have DIED!!! "

Kida: " Zeeke... it was their duty to die for us. They did what was right as parents...they protected us, fought

for us, and put their lives on the line, just for US. I realize now that's exactly what my mother did for me. She

put her life at risk for my safety, and in doing so, she saved my life. Don't you see, they put our lives before theirs!"

Zeeke: " But they have to come back, THEY JUST HAVE TO!!! I didn't even get the chance to say goodbye..."

 

Zeeke lowered his head and started to cry on his father's stiff, lifeless body.

 

This broke Kida's heart, and she, too, started crying.

 

Kida: " Their not comming back, Zeeke, not now, not ever. It's just another crule fact of life."

Zeeke: " Then...then I'm not comming back either..."

Kida: " What? "

Zeeke: " You heard. I leaving, and I'm NEVER comming back. NEVER! "

Kida: " Zeeke, no... WAIT!!! "

 

 

Before long, Zeeke shot out of sight, and there was no use going after him.

 

He wouldn't listen to Kida, and

 

now, there was no hope for her. She had lost everything she ever had: Her parents,

 

her home, her heros, and even her only friend. She

 

knew now it was time for her to take a different route. She decided to cover some

 

ground and travel across

 

 

the woods. Within an hour, this lead her to a small town. It was small, and very

 

few lived there. She thought

 

since she was too young to hunt, she would just scavenge for food here.

 

Kida: (talking to herself) "Wow, so this is the town. I hope I can dodge most of the humans here."

 

While sniffing around for scraps of food, she mannaged to stumble across a

 

garbage pale. She looked in,

 

and was astonished at what it contained. A young, female wolf , about her age,

 

was looking up at her.

 

 

 

Wolf: "Hey, get lost! This is MY food!"
