“But how can that be?” She asked aloud. She looked at Parker. “Why? Why didn’t you tell him why? Do you have any idea what he must think ? How could you if he wanted to see you again I wouldn’t blame him. He was your son how could you.”

That was all Jenna could say.

Parker didn’t even look ashamed or anything he showed no emotion at all.

“That’s it Balto is not leaving the clan again!” Shouted Nightsky. “I will not tolerate this anymore I don’t even know why he stayed!”

Nightsky stormed out of the room and Jenna ran after him. But all Cody could do was sit there as stiff as a stature. It was as if his brain froze so it could not work.

Everyone seemed discussed with Parker.

Jenna asked so many questions on the way Nightsky didn’t even answer her. But he did answer one question.

“I think he is okay after he found out who his father was I raced to the dog shed.” He said “ dog shed” like it was a foreign phrase to him. In a sense it was because he is still getting use to what Balto says.

Nightsky felt guilt. His best friend was enduring a lot right now but Nightsky felt helpless. He wants it to be the way it use to be. When he and Balto were kids. When Balto was next to be leader.

Before Annaleese decide to kill Balto’s mother and him. He wished Balto never ran away. Why did this have to happen. What was he going to do? Nightsky knew he was the one who said it but he cannot really keep Balto there at home.

He could not figure it out. Why all the secrets?

Both Jenna and Nightsky walked into the clan. Everyone had worried looks on there face and Jenna couldn’t stand it. Nightsky led her to his den. There lay Balto breathing hard and Spottedleaf, the medicine wolf standing over him.

“He is just in shock but will recover.” She said. “What are you planning on doing?”

“I seriously don’t know I mean I can’t keep him here.” He said looking at Jenna.

The wolf looked at him and said “ It would be nice if things were back to normal again.”

“Yes but he knows to much about the outside world so you just can’t erase that from him.” Said Nightsky.

“Maybe things would.” She said.

“Spottedleaf, things would never be the same between you and Balto again you may want it to be but they never will.” Said Nightsky in a very firm voice Jenna never heard him use before.

and what did he mean by “ the things between you and Balto would never be the same.” Was there when Balto lived here something going on between them?

“Alright Nightsky I will leave.” She stomped off.

“What was that about?” Asked Jenna.

Nightsky jumped then said, “I forgot you were there.”

He said. “But it doesn’t matter that was a long time ago.”

“Nightsky what was a long time ago?” Asked Jenna in her innocent voice.

“Okay when Balto was going to be leader his mom or dad had to pick a wife for him and it was Spottedleaf, Both took to it like they really loved each other…” His voice got stern “ That’s over and Spottedleaf never got over it … Besides he’s married now so there is no way she could be his wife now…don’t feel guilty either Spottedleaf has known this for a long time.”

“Oh” was all Jenna could say.

She did feel guilty because Balto had a life here. But because of her he cannot get that life back.

She looked at Balto and thought hard then said ,“Nightsky would you or should I say the clan let me live here so Balto can carry out his duties to the clan and not feel guilty about it?”

Nightsky looked shocked then said. “Yes they should I would.”

He stumbled on his words. “But if you need to talk to Balto about it first go ahead but give him time.”

Balto was back home in his little boat and was glad about it too. It had been 3 days since Balto collapsed at the Roundayphu. Jenna acted as if she wanted to talk to him about something but didn’t come out with it. It was strange to know she was afraid to talk to him.

Balto was afraid to know what happened between him and his mom. It was happening again the feelings he got when he didn’t have his memory. He just can’t remember his dad. What happened between his parents.

“Balto is everything al right?” Asked Boris.

“Uh?” Oh. Balto sighed. “Can I answer that in about 5 years?”

Boris laughed but Balto didn’t see anything funny.

“Is it about your dad or the whole clan thing or both?”

“Both I guess. I am being torn both ways I mean towards the life I had with you, Cody, Jenna, Muk, Luk, and the rest of the town. And to the life with the clan. I just don’t know what to do. You know what I mean.”

“You know when I found you?” Asked Boris.

“Yes.” Said Balto.

“Well my friends hassled me not to keep you but I just could not leave you. But you heard us talking. You ran away because you thought you were a burden. I found you once again. I didn’t leave you because I let my instinct tell me what to do. And now look at me. You brought me more happiness then my old friends. They left me but I know that’s not a true friend. If they were my friends they would have let me keep you and stay.”

“Balto just let your instinct guide you. What do you want?”

“I am going to hate myself but Boris I want to go home. I know I said I was never going back but…”

“I know.” Boris smiled.

Jenna told Cody what she and Nightsky talked about. And Cody got mad.

“What! How can you consider it? That’s crazy mom!” Cody said.

“Well I know your father wants to go back and don’t want him to be happy?” Asked Jenna.

“Yes I do but I thought he was happy with us.” Said Cody.

“I didn’t mean it like that.” Said Jenna.

“I know but I’m afraid to lose him.” Said Cody. “It’s not fair!”

“It’s not fair! It’s not fair! What’s not fair is the way you’re acting! Your father deserves to have happiness. And if he wants to go back let him!” Jenna yelled.

“The thing is I don’t know what I want, I want to go home but there is still the lingering I don’t know if I want to stay…”

“You know Balto I will never know why you linger I mean is everyones here is nice but…”

“It’s okay Skylar I know what you mean.” Said Balto. “It’s more of my family then the others.”

Balto and Skylar walked into the dog shed.

“Oh balto don’t worry Jenna asked me if she could live in the clan so you can stay in the clan and not feel guilty.” Explained Skylar.

Balto looked at Jenna and smiled. “I wouldn’t mind coming back but what about Rosie?” Asked Balto.

“Oh I still would live with her but only on veryreous occasions.” Said Jenna.

“What do you say?” Asked Skylar.

“No dad you can’t.” Shouted Cody.

“Why?” Asked Balto blankly.

“Because you can’t leave me here all alone!” Said Cody.

“I’m not leaving you.” Said Balto. “Besides you are a mail dog. I have a life with the clan. You can visit I can too. I want to be with my old friends. I’m not going to live in the boat anymore.”

Cody knew he was right but he didn’t want his dad to be right he wanted to go back to the way it use to be.

“You know what dad it doesn’t matter! Go leave it doesn’t matter to me anymore!”

“Cody don’t be that way. I will come and visit. You’re a mail dog. You’re gone half the time anyway.”

After that Cody settled down. He knew his father was right. Cody had to start

Balto was just starting to settle in but it didn’t feel the same as when he lived with his friend Boris. It felt so different but it was his home. He was looking around when no one was looking he would sneak out of the clan. He was going to the boat that used to be his home.

“Boris?”

There was no sound at all.

“Boris? Are you there?”

Boris was nowhere to be found. Balto looked everywhere he could have been. So Balto got the courage to go to the dog shed and ask Cody. It felt weird to be afraid of Cody. But Balto knew he had to try. He had to make everything right again. When he got to the shed he felt like turning back.

“Dad?” Came a voice.

“Yes?” Said Balto looking straight at Cody.

“Dad I feel so stupid for the way…”His voice trailed off.

“I know.” Said Balto hugging his son.

“I have one question.”

“Yes dad?”

“Have you seen Boris?”

Out came Boris from inside the dog shed. Balto smiled and said. “I can’t believe you.” He shook his head.

Balto, Jenna, Cody, and Boris were walking throw the Forrest. Balto saw his dad sitting on a hill so he turned to the others and said come on.

“Balto…” Boris’s voice trailed off.

“I gotta do it. I’ll never forgive myself if I don’t.”

When he got there he sat right by his dad. He looked at the sunset (the others were looking at him strangely)

“ So what really happened between you and mom?” Balto eased.

“What happened you really want to know?” Asked Parker.

“Well… yeah.” Said Balto.

“I didn’t leave
