Week’s later Balto was still recovering from the fight not mentally but physically. Balto had forgotten how strong

Annaleese was when they were kids. It makes Balto sad to know how Annaleese really was, but it’s true.

One thing still bugged Balto he knows who his mom is now who was his Dad? It haunts him but he has to know.

He asked Skylar so many times. Skylar still hasn’t told him (or Balto thinks maybe won’t tell him.) yet.

He now knows his history. Balto’s mom was the leader of the Forgotten clan but Baltos guessing this but maybe she wasn’t aloud to get married but then who is his dad? What happened? He stared out of the plank on the boat.

Jenna walked in and interrupted his thoughts. “Balto are you okay?”

“I guess so?” Answered Balto. But he wasn’t okay. He let things haunt his mind until he has an answer for them.

“Nightsky, is here he is wondering if you can come to the Roundayphu”?

“What now?” Asked Balto.

“A Roundayphu it’s a party where all the clans meat once a year.” Answered Nightsky.

Balto looked at him strangely. “I thought I was not aloud into the clan activities because I rejected the opportunity to come back”

“Balto you have to come everyone wants to see you.” He looked down and said, “ It’s been so long.”

Balto looked down. It had been a long time. He did miss the clan. But he was afraid to go back. Afraid to know what the clan will think of him for leaving and not accepting the offer to come back. Then agin what did he have to lose. Then again for that matter what did he ever have to lose.

“Alright I’ll bite. What’s this really about?” Asked Balto.

“Oh okay everyone wants to know what happened, but there really is a Roundayphu every year.” Said Skylar with a reassuring voice.

“I do have my memory back.” Balto said thinking about it. “Alright I’ll go.”

Skylar smiled. It was good to have his friend back.

 

Back at the dog shed Cody sat there and just stared. What is happening to his family? Its like he doesn’t know how to explain it. His family isn’t as close as it use to. Okay he’ll admit it; it’s because of his dad. His dad was always there now its like Balto isn’t his dad anymore. He didn’t know how to explain it.

Jenna walked in laughing.

“What’s so funny?” Asked Cody.

“Nightsky is taking your dad to a Roundayphu and he was trying to help you dad to sing a song but Balto just couldn’t pronounce the words and it was so funny.” She smiled. “Then Nightsky said la la la and your father said ‘I like that part’” It was funny. I haven’t seen your Father so happy in awhile.”

 

“I’m so glad I’m going! Remember when we were little we wished we were old enough to go!” Balto said excitedly.

“Yeah…You know we’ve got time to spare go and get Cody.” Offered Skylar.

“Really?”

“Yeah lets go back so you can ask if he wants to go.”

 

 

“Mom I just don’t get it.” Said Cody. “I feel as if I lost my dad.”

“Oh Cody your father does need to be in his clan every once in awhile. But he’ll always be your father just give him some time. He needs to recover and if being around his real home then that’s what he needs. Do you understand?”

Cody looked down and said “ Yes … but isn’t this his real home?”

“In a way yes and in a way no, yes because we’re here his family and no because he born into the clan.” Finished Jenna.

“But mom if he doesn’t want to go back why are they making him?” Asked Cody.

“Honey, I think Balto wants to go back but he isn’t because of us.” Said Jenna.

“Why? What’s he got there that he doesn’t here?”

“Wolves and ways he grew up with.” Said Doc.

“But he loved with Boris half the time.” Said Cody.

No one knew Balto over heard everything. No one knew the pain he felt. How can Cody and Jenna think that way? But there is one question he asked himself for the first time. Did he want to go back to his clan and take his place as leader? He didn’t know the answer to the question. He didn’t think he’d ever know…

 

Later Balto was at the Roundayphu talking to one of the elders and telling them what went on with him and Annaleese. He realized he was really enjoying himself. But he still thought about the question he asked himself earlier. Did he want to go back home? Balto was afraid the answer was “ yes” but didn’t know how to tell Cody and Jenna after what he heard.

What was he going to do? It was a hard decision to make. Balto still didn’t know how to make it. He wondered if he should announce it at the Roundayphu. He definitely did not want to tell Nightsky because he really wants Balto to come back. He just didn’t know what to do.

“Where have you been all these years?” Asked one of the leaders?

Everyone looked at him.

“Oh here and there I guess, I’ve lived with Boris a goose on an old moldy boat for how many years and I married now to a husky (everyone shifted at the word “husky”) I have a son name Cody.”

After that no one said anything to him about his life so he stayed in a corner. It felt weird to be around his childhood friends again for the first time (in a long time) he felt alone.

“Hey Balto!” Said Sandstorm. A pale sandy colored wolf from the Sun clan. (You can tell why, everyone in the clan has a light colored fur.) “I heard you came back does that mean you are leader”

“No definitely not.” Said Balto.

“Why not?” She tilted her head. “You would have been a great leader.”

Balto wished everyone would stop talking to him saying how great he could be. It’s hard enough with both Cody and Jenna thinking he is going to walk out on them. It is very frustrating. There is nothing he can do about it and that was the worst part about it.

 

“Balto, why are you here all alone?” Asked Skylar.

“Oh I don’t know Skylar its just…”

“Is it Jenna and Cody?” Asked Nightsky.

Balto told him what he over heard.

“You really that worried” Asked Nightsky.

“Yes.” Said Balto looking down. “I don’t know what to do.”

“You know you sound exactly like your dad.” Said one of elders.

Balto was puzzled. “You knew my father?” He Asked.

“Yeah old Parker was like that. It was always hard to make decisions for him.”

Balto started feeling funny. Darkness threatened to engulf him.

“ Balto are you okay?” Asked Nightsky but his voice sounded far and distant.

Fog started to fill the air. Balto felt as if his memory was taken from him again. What happened? He was there his whole life…He’d known his Father the whole time!

 

 

 

 

Cody was talking to his mother when Nightsky came in fighting mad. He marched up to Parker and yelled.

“What did you do to him!”

“Who?” Asked Parker

“You know who, what did you do he was your son!” Nightsky Shouted desperately.

Parker got this look on his face as if he knew exactly what was going on.

“I could have been shunned.” He said so calm. Too Nightsky too calm because he started yelling again.

“Was that really important?”

“I’m afraid so. I don’t really know.” Parker seemed confused now.

“So tell me what did you do to him?” Asked Nightsky again. This time there was complete venom in his voice.

“I didn’t do anything.” He said so calm.

“Then you tell me why he freaked out when he heard your name.” Nightsky Said in a calm voice.

“I don’t know” He said in a very frustrated voice.

“Nightsky what did he do?” Asked Jenna.

“I don’t know yet but I will know very soon.” He said his eyes still on Parker. “I tell you what I do know. He left her broke her heart and broke Baltos heart while he was at it!”

“Who did he leave?” Asked Jenna.

“Eniu! He left Eniu.”

“Why?” Asked Jenna.

Nightsky looked at Parker. “Well buddy do you want the honors?”

Parker got this looked that made him realize that Nightsky was very Serious. He looked at the dogs and murmured “ Yes”

Then Nightsky said, “ Be my guest”

“I am.” He lingered. “I what I want to say…”

He gave a look to Nightsky that said “ do I have to do this”…

“I am Balto’s birth father.” He finally let it out. There was whispering and gasp of shock.

Cody felt like he was hit in the face with a baseball bat. The thing is he has been with his grandpa for how long and just now he found out. But then he stopped to think about his dad and hoe he must feel. Betrayal? Pain? What? He must feel something.

 

 

Jenna felt nothing but confusion. It took her a second to realize what Nightsky was saying. Then her thoughts went to Balto. What must he feel? Why? Balto had enough on his mind first his worst childhood memories come back. Then this. “ I hate time” she declared to herself. This had to be the worst timing ever for Balto. She tried to imagine what Balto could be thinking.
