“No one asked you.” Snarled Dusty.

“It may be me but you obviously didn’t grow up the way we did.”

“I’m sure of that.” Said Cody. “You’ll never be able to live in the clan with that attitude.”

“I don’t think I ever will.” He told her. Jenna was right because Cody didn’t like her either. She was secretive. In a strange way.

 

Jenna was walking towards the place where Balto lived. She questioned herself. What was going on? The white wolf, Annaleese, Nightsky…Who are these wolves? And why doesn’t Balto remember them? What happened to him? What is in his past that he can’t remember what happened to him? She saw the white wolf on top of the mountain. Jenna decided she was going to get to the bottom of this.

Who are you? She asked the white wolf.

Most call me “the white wolf” but my name is Eniu. She said.

“Balto wake up!” A loud whisper said.

“What?” Asked Balto. He hoped whoever it was would go away. It was the bast sleep he had in a while.

“Its Annaleese And Its an emergency!”

That woke Balto right up. “Yes?” Asked.

“It’s the clan there under attack come help PLEASE!” She begged Balto. He didn't know what to do so he said: " Let’s go! "

 

“Cody!” yelled Jenna “Have You seen your father?”

“No I haven't.” Answered Cody.

“I've look for him everywhere .I even asked Boris but he hasn't seen him either.”

“Jenna! Cody! come right away!” Yelled Boris.

“What is it!” yelled Jenna.

“Muk and Luk found Balto out cold all bloody on the ground in the Forrest.”

They ran to him. Jenna gasp as she saw him. He was bad.

“What happened?” Jenna felt her worst fears come true.

“I don’t know.”

Two wolf guards saw them trying to haul Balto’s mangled body to the boat. They were from Baltos clan and asked if they could help. It took two of them. One ran back to tell Nightsky and to get the medicine wolf. Jenna was surprised to see it was Spottedleaf. She looked Balto over and said he was going to be alright but he may be in shock.

A few days later Balto finally woke up. And everyone jumped.

“Dad, what happened?” Asked Cody.

“I don’t know…I can’t remember.”

Jenna came in and took one look at Balto and said. “You almost gave me a heart attack what happened?”

“I don’t remember…”

“You can’t remember anything anymore! I bet you don’t even remember your mother!”

“Mom?” Asked Balto. “She was here? Where is she?”

“You do know her? What color is she?”

“She is pure white I see her often but she leaves every time I go to her. She use to make me feel safe.” He looked down. “She always there but leaves when I come to see her.”

“Balto she is…Dead.”

“I know but she is my spirit now. She protects me. She helps me. She may be dead but I know she’s there.”

 

 

“Jenna can I talk to you?” Asked Annaleese.

“Sure.”

“In private.” She said looking at the dogs. “Follow me.”

But no one saw her smirk.

 

 

Balto was looking for Jenna he had something important to tell her. She needs to know. Something he remembered.

“Where is your mother?” Balto asked Cody.

“She is out with Annaleese.”

“No!” Screamed Balto. The dogs turned to stare.

“What is it Dad?” Asked Cody.

“Cody you listen to me Annaleese is not what she seems she did it ...it was her!”

“t was her what?”

“She killed my mom. Cody! She is a murderer!”

 

 

 

 

 

“Jenna?” Said Annaleese. She spoke in a girly voice.

“Yes?” Asked Jenna.

“You know he should have died right?” Asked Annleese.

“what...” Asked Jenna a little stunned.

“Who?”

“You know who Jenna dear. Balto should have died like his mom don’t you think?” Annalese talked so calm.

Jenna was so in shock. What was Annaleese talking about? What did Balto do?

“Jenna get away from her!” yelled Balto.

He leaped on to Annaleese. They both fought and struggled Annaleese let out a howl! A few wolves came out of the mist and stared. Nightsky watch with amazement.

“What is going on?” He asked. Annaleese and Balto stopped struggling to see who was speaking.

“Balto, what are you doing?” Asked Nightsky.

“She did it was her!” Said Balto.

“What did she do Balto?” Asked Nightsky.

“A bear did not kill my mother she did.” Said Balto. “I remember! I remember! Oh gosh I remember!” Balto could feel the tears coming down his face.

Whispers uproar from the crowd. Balto suddenly felt A string of memories come in.

“Skylar you got to believe me.” Said Balto.

A startled look came on Nightsky's face.

“What did you call me?” Asked Nightsky.

“I called you Skylar remember?” Asked Balto.

He looked down. “Yes I do.” said Skylar.

"I remember I was so scared.” Balto looked up then Said, “But not anymore, Annaleese.” He turned to her. “You thought you get away with it...but you didn't I'm still alive.”

Annaleese look so surprised.

“Don't you remember what you did?” Asked Balto. He looked down. “You were my friend why'd you do it?”

Annaleese spoke up. “ Why! Why! Because it should have been my family in command not yours! I admit it I killed her but it should have been you I killed.”

“Why?” Asked Nightsky “Balto never hurt anyone he was your friend Annaleese and mine too. What caused this anger?”

“What caused it? What caused it? Nothing at all I knew Balto had to die but his mom got in the way so I killed her but Balto watch me do it so I tried to kill him too but I had only knocked him out.”

Balto's eyes got wide and said, “ that’s why I lost my memories. got hit in the head.”

“Bravo! Bravo! You figured it out, but now you must die!” They started to fight again. Analeese banged Balto into a tree.

”This time mommy isn't here to save you?” She laughed gleefully.

Cody spoke this time, “No maybe not but he has me and Nightsky!”

Balto chased her away. “Balto come on!” Shouted Nightsky.

Balto didn't move. “No Nightsky I will not kill her just let it be a lesson.”

 

Later the same day:

“Balto?” Asked Nightsky.

“Yes.”

“Balto I talked to the elders and asked if I could step down so you can come home.”

He looked at Balto with hope in his eyes.

Cody, Jenna, and the other dogs looked at Balto. Balto looked to Cody then to Jenna. He looked to Nightsky and said

“Skylar you are my best friend and I'd like to come home but...”

“But what?” Asked Nightsky.

“Came 3 years ago I would have gone in a heart beat but now…I don't know.”

Nightsky looked down and said, “I understand you made a life here you have a beautiful wife and a wonderful kid. Thats one thing you beat me at...”

“What?” Asked Balto.

“I will never have as good of friends as you they take care of you in the clan its really every wolf for himself. You will never have to face that again. Don’t get me wrong but you know what I mean.”

He turned to leave then stopped. “Balto if you ever need help you can always come home.” He smiled and left.

“That’s that.” Said Balto.”

“Dad you could have gone Mom nor me would have minded.” Said Cody.

“Cody’s right Balto, go catch up with Nightsky.” Said Jenna.

“Sorry but I can't its the rules I walked out a long time ago and when I had the chance to go back I turned it down there is no way I can't go back now.” Said Balto.

“What do you mean?” Asked Dusty

“Alright in other words they won't accept me now I in a way betrayed them.”

“Ooh I get it now.” Said Dusty uncertainly.

“Balto, how come you got your memories back all of a sudden? I mean before you didn't even know Nightsky. till an hour ago.” Asked Jenna.

“Well just a shot in the dark but when Annaleese killed my mom it put me in a position where my body tried to protect me. From the truth it erased my memory but not entirely when Annaleese attack me I got as scared as I did when she killed my mom in meaning I knew I could handle the truth.” Said Balto. “That makes sense?”

Said Cody. “I guess so.”

“Clear as mud. When I woke from the blow I could not remember who I was or what happened all I knew was I woke up and saw a dead body in front of me. At first I didn’t understand. But I do now.”
