Prologue

 

 

 

A young wolf woke up but didn’t open his eyes. He knew that sunshine was poking threw the trees. He realized he didn’t know who he was. A whisper brushed his face. “Balto” Was that who he was? He didn’t know.

Balto he liked the way it sounds so he that’s what he called himself. He opened his eyes to a horrifying vision. There lay a white wolf dead and all bloody. He got up right away. What happened? Why was he here? Or how did he did he get here? He felt a cold chill. He shivered. He looked around. A howl came in the distance. Who was it?

He ran as fast as he could from the scene. When he knew it was far enough he looked around. He doesn't know who he is or where he came from but now his name is Balto and he starts his life right where he stood. Everything that or what is in his past is behind him. Balto looked to the sun he realized that the whisper in the wind was calling to him. He looked in the distance he was going to start over here. His knew his life began here and now.

 

 

 

10Years later

 

 

 

It was foggy, So foggy Balto couldn’t see anything. He didn't even know where he was. He just looked into the white nothingness. It was getting colder and darker by the minute. A familiar voice spoke. It came in a harsh haggard whisper.

" Danger is coming my son beware a friend who isn’t is coming.”

“Balto! Balto! Wake up!” Said Boris. Baltos life long friend. “You were having a nightmare again, The same every night.” He said the last bit to himself.

“I know I know. What am I going to do? Its not like I can help it anymore then you can.” Balto said.

“Never mind that!” Yelled Boris. He stomped off. “You’ll be late!” He shouted back at him.

“Or have you forgotten.” Borris shouted back.

 

 

His son is coming home today. Cody works for the U.S. mail. So he's gone often. Jenna makes a big deal of Cody coming home. Balto walked to Jenna's house and when he got there she was so excited because Cody had got his chance to be lead dog of the team. Of course she wanted to see how it was for him. Balto wanted to know too but the dream kept him from thinking straight. Memories came back. He saw the dead white wolf. Who was she? Unfortunately the mail was late, again. Both parents watch for Cody's team to come in. A bunch of barking was coming from the distance. Balto shot off to run with Cody.

It didn’t take him long till he caught up with him.

“How was it Cody?” Asked Balto.

“It was amazing Dad you should of been there!”

Cody was so excited that he couldn't even speak. After all the excitement Balto told Jenna and Cody about his dream and about how it only happened when Alue went to lead the wolf pack.

“What do you think it means?” Asked Cody.

“I don’t know.” Said Balto.

“When it comes to you dreams always mean something.”

“Wander why that is.” Said Jenna.

“Well when the leader of the wolf clan thought I was the one chosen to lead his pack he said it was the trait that said I was a wolf.” Said Balto.

“You will not believe this. They’re having a party because you made lead dog!” Screamed Dusty.

“What!” Cody said excitedly.

“There having a party for you because you made lead dog! Really! Really!” Said Balto. Just to tease Cody. He knew how annoyed Cody got.

“Dad!” Said Cody.

Balto just shrugged and said "what?'

“You know what Balto.” Said Jenna.

“I know but it’s still fun.” Balto smiled and shook his head.

After she left Balto, Jenna was walking around the town looking for Cody when she saw a wolf. She was pure white had blue eyes. She looked at Jenna and disappeared. Who was she?

 

Balto was walking threw the woods to think long and hard about his dream. It made no sense. He realized he was in wolf territory. He turned to go back when two wolves appeared.

“I’m sorry I didn’t realize I was in your territory soon enough. If you let me leave I’ll just be on my way.” Said Balto.

“He looks kinda like her.” Said one with a gray stripes.

“No he looks more like Parker.” Said one with dark brown fur.

“Why do you think he left her?”

“Who did I leave?” Asked Balto.

“Not you!” they said in unison.

“He has her eyes and his fur though his is lighter then his fathers.”

“Do you think we should tell Nightsky?” asked one.

“Of course I mean Nightsky would have our heads if he found out we saw him and didn’t tell him.” Said the other.

That was that. They took off without another word. Balto was annoyed. What was they talking about.

 

“Do you know who they are?” Asked Ralph.

“Never seen them in my life.” Replied Balto

“But Dad how can that be?” Asked Cody.

“How can what be?” Asked Balto.

“They seem to know you and you don't know them.” Finished Dusty.

“I clearly don't know.” Said Balto.

When Balto thought about it, It seems a little strange. Why? Why couldn’t he remember. He recognized the wolves all of the sudden. He laughed. “I should have known the rascals old Grayfield and Brackenpaw.” The dogs looked at him.

“Who?” Asked Cody.

“Grayfield and Brackenfur they would always try to play jokes on me not just me the whole clan.”

“I thought you said you didn’t know them.” Said Corby.

“I can’t believe I forgot about them.” Balto laughed.

“I had to know.” Said a voice.

“What?” Said Balto turning around. All the dogs turned to stare.

“I had to know it was you and it is Balto.” Said a brown wolf with green spots.

“I waited for so long.” She seemed to be talking to herself. “We used to play together you’d tell me stories.” “What happened to you? Why’d you run away?”

“I don’t know.” Said Balto a feeling of guilt ran threw him. Why did he run away. He looked at her and said. “I can’t remember.”

“Dad, What are you talking about?” Asked Cody.

Balto realized everyone was looking at him. He looked to the wolf and said. “I know who you are but I just can’t remember…Anything at all about you.”

A sudden anger took her voice. “ How could forget me”

“I don’t know.” Balto said.

She turned to leave.

“Wait Spottedleaf, don’t go don’t leave.”

“What’d you call me?”

“Spottedleaf?

“You do remember!” She shouted happily.

“I do but I can’t place where I know you from.”

“How can that be?”

“Balto, Spoke a dog. “What are you talking about all of the sudden you are talking about clans, wolves, and…He looked at Spottedleaf…Her and you seem to you know all of them.”

“I didn’t think of it that way I guess”.

“Think of what?” Yelled Cody. “You are or have been acting weird all day what is going on?”

“I don’t know Cody I’m just learning all of this too so I don’t know what to tell you.”

“It’s all right young one.” She said.

“What’d you call me?” Asked Cody.

“Young one?”

“It’s okay Spottedleaf this is my son Cody, Cody this is Brownleaf.”

“Hi” she smiled.

“Hi”. Said Cody.

“How are you?” Cody dared to ask.

“Fine, how are you?”

“Okay.”

 

“And Jenna this Spottedleaf, and Spottedleaf this is my wife Jenna.”

“You’re married?” She asked.

“Yes I am.” Was Balto reply. It’s different now.”

He said because he saw the tears in her eyes.

“How could you?”

“Because I love her.”

“And the clan?” She asked.

“I’m never going back.”

“Oh yes you are as long as Nightsky has something to say.”

“Who?” Asked Balto.

“You don’t even remember do you?”

“No, I am sorry.” Balto said. “I don’t mean to hurt you but you just can’t role my life.”

“And they shouldn’t.” Said Doc raising his voice.

“But they almost did.” Balto told his son.

“Why?”

“I don’t know its how I grew up.”

“You used to not mind when you were mine.” She said.

Jenna shifted.

“What is she talking about?” Asked Jenna.

“A life time ago.” Said Balto.

“You think that was a lifetime ago!” She screamed.

“Yes I do.”

“The clan…”

“Doesn’t matter I’m never going back.”

“If you knew how much trouble you were in…”

“That’d be fine with me.” He finished.

“The clan is not my life anymore I live my own life.”

“And what kind of life is it?”

“A good one. Spottedleaf, our conversation is over.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Balto woke with a start. It was the dream again but it was different. It had his Mother in it .She is the most respected wolf in Nome. Her name is Eniu she is pure white. She has
