Talkeet in the face with his paws.

This just made Talkeet angrier.

He hit the wolf in the side of the head several times, and then turned, catching the wolf’s front legs with his back legs, and knocking the wolf to the ground.

Talkeet put his paw on top of the fallen wolf’s head.

Please?” the wolf said.

Talkeet hesitated, but only for a moment.

“… what ever is necessary.” He thought.

He crushed the wolf’s head.

Talkeet looked up at the last two.

The leader smiled.

“Excellent.” He said.

He turned and ran.

The other wolf turned to run as well.

Normally, Talkeet would’ve let him go, but his hatred fueled him now, and he was in a blind rage.

Talkeet leapt onto the wolf’s back, and knocked him to the floor.

The wolf yelled as Talkeet bit the back of his neck, and drug him over to one of the smaller stalagmites that were scattered on the cave floor.

Talkeet slammed the side of the wolf’s head against the rock several times.

The wolf went limp.

Talkeet kept smacking the wolf into the rock, until he heard a wet crunching sound, and the point of the stalagmite exploded out of the side of the wolf’s head.

Blood spattered on Talkeet, and all over the floor.

Talkeet let the dead wolf go, and whirled around, but…

There were no more.

The leader had run away.

Talkeet was breathing hard, and he stopped for a second to catch his breath.

“That was weird,” Talkeet thought. “I don’t remember fighting at all.”

It was evident that he had though, for the chamber floor was littered with dead bodies.

Talkeet saw the horrible injuries he had inflicted on them, and shuddered.

“What have I done?” He thought.

A dark sounding voice spoke inside his mind.

“Only what was necessary Talkeet, only what was necessary…”

The voice laughed.

Chapter Eight

Snow opened her eyes.

She was lying on her side on a rock… a HOT rock!

She jumped up, and looked around.

“Where am I?” she thought.

She was standing on a rock island surrounded by a sea of orange.

The heat emanating from the liquid was amazing.

She looked up.

Dark gray clouds filled a red sky, and lightning cracked across it..

“Welcome.” A dark voice said from behind her.

She whirled around and gasped.

A once black wolf stood behind her.

He was on fire!

He smiled at her.

“Where... where am I?” Snow asked.

The wolf just laughed.

His dark laughter echoed off the walls of the huge cavern.

“Welcome,” he said, “to hell.”

A giant eruption of the liquid spouted upward, and suddenly the air was filled with screams.

They were everywhere, and creatures of all shapes and sizes.

The orange liquid started to envelop the rock.

Snow jumped back.

The wolf laughed again.

You shouldn’t fight it.” he said, “it’ll get to you sooner or later.”

Snow looked confused.

“Wait, what happened to Talkeet?”

The wolf laughed.

“Don’t worry about him, he’s mine now.”

“What?” Snow asked, “who are you anyway?”

She jumped back again, as the liquid fire covered over another inch of the already small island.

“I am Shade, lord of this place.” The wolf said, looking around.

He took a deep breath.

“Ahh, home sweet home.”

Snow looked horrified.

Shade laughed again.

“Don’t worry, your friend will be with you soon enough,”

“Talkeet, here?” Snow thought. “No..”

The liquid lapped at her paws now, and she could see the hairs curl up, as they melted.

Shade’s laughter once again filled the foul air.

“Watch out, that first step is a doozy.”

Snow looked at him like he was insane.

Then the liquid covered her paws, and she screamed….

Rayne saw the wolf stop chasing her, as she neared a cave.

The wolf looked around.

“Oh my God…” The wolf thought, “I’m here…”

The wolf turned and ran.

Rayne stepped through the entrance to the cave.

“Hey, who are you?” A brown wolf said, as he walked up to her.

“My name is Rayne, and Talkeet told me to meet him here.”

The brown wolf sighed.

“Talkeet’s…. he’s dead.”

“Oh no!” Rayne said.

The wolf nodded.

Rayne let this sink in a bit.

“Thank you Talkeet.” She thought.

“Can I talk to Aleu then?” Rayne asked.

“Sure.” The sentry said, he turned and spoke to the silver wolf beside him.

“I’m going to go get her, you watch the front.”

The silver wolf nodded.

“Follow me.” The brown wolf said.

Rayne ran after him, dodging wolves, as they went about their normal tasks for the pack.

Finally, after climbing several shelves, they reached a chamber, at which the wolf stopped.

“She’s inside.”

Rayne nodded.

“Thank you.”

The wolf said nothing, just turned and walked back to his post.

Rayne stepped inside the chamber.

A gray wolf stood inside, and she turned, as she heard Rayne enter.

“Aleu?” Rayne asked.

“Yes,” the wolf said, “but who are…”

Aleu stopped, as Rayne knelt to the ground.

“Get up.” Aleu said, walking over to her.

Rayne stood up.

“Who are you?” Aleu asked.

“My name is Rayne.” Rayne said, “Talkeet saved me.”

“Talkeet?!” Aleu said, “you saw him, was he okay?!”

“Then he was.” Rayne said. “But… well, I was told that he died..”

Aleu nodded and sighed

“Talkeet told me to come here, he said you’d take care of me.”

Aleu smiled.

“We sure will, what clan are you from?”

Rayne hung her head.

“The Joeka, but…. but they were all killed….”

“By the Uniea?” Aleu asked.

Rayne nodded.

“My God….” Aleu said.

Rayne sighed.

“So I guess I don’t have a home.”

Aleu smiled.

“You do now Rayne, you do now.”

Rayne too smiled.

“Come on,” Aleu said, “I’ll introduce you to the others of the pack.”

The two of them walked out of the room.

Talkeet was running as fast as he could.

He wanted to be home.

Talkeet couldn’t forget what he’d done back there…. he wondered what would come of this, Shadow had said…..

“No,” Talkeet thought, “all that stuff about it consuming the user is superstitious nonsense, besides I’m strong….”

But he wasn’t sure.

As he was thinking Talkeet saw a wolf darting through the trees.

Talkeet kept out of sight.

He snuck up to a snow covered hill, and climbed up it, then gasped at what he saw.

It was a group of Uniea, a large group, and they were moving toward the Talbourne’s cave, and they were already in Talbourne territory…. unopposed.

“What has happened while I’ve been gone?” Talkeet thought.

Then he saw something that lifted his spirits.

Two groups of wolves converged on the Uniea formation, and a fight began.

Talkeet smiled.

Then his smiled faded.

The Uniea still pushed onward, through the Talbourne wolves.

The Talbourne were falling back, and the cave was only about three miles away.

“Home….” Talkeet said, “… Rayne.”

Then he took off running for the cave.

Dash couldn’t believe what was happening, the Uniea were pushing them back, somehow they were continuing their advance, and taking heavy casualties out of his unit as well.

Dash could see the cave now.

He turned and looked back.

He froze.

An Uniea’s paw clipped him in the side of the head, and he fell to the ground.

Dash barely even felt it, as he stood up, still transfixed at what he saw.

Talkeet’s unit was lined up, forming a wall of wolves in front of the cave.

“How could they have known?” Dash thought.

Then from out of the rank of wolves, Talkeet stepped to the front.

Dash smiled.

He turned to his unit, many of which were wounded or dead.

“Fall back, fall back into the cave, we’re the second line, we’ll hold security!”

The wolves were more than willing to obey, and fell back through the rank of Talkeet’s unit.

The Uniea stopped fighting for a moment, and looked at this new unit.

Dash stopped next to Talkeet.

“Son you’re alive!”

Talkeet nodded, never taking his gaze off of the enemy leader.

“I…. I thought that you’d been killed I really did.”

He sighed.

“I don’t know how these guys got here….”

Talkeet nodded.

“Dad, why don’t you join your unit?” Talkeet said flatly.

Dash nodded, and walked back to where they were waiting.

Talkeet still stared at the Uniea unit, they hadn’t moved since his appearance.

About thirty feet spanned between the two adversaries.

The Uniea leader smiled and charged.

Talkeet watched the force run at him.

There were too many of them, they outnumbered his forces at least five to one.

Talkeet frowned, and yelled.

“Charge!”

The unit took off, Talkeet at the head.

The two groups of wolves met with a crash.

Growls, snapping teeth, the thud of attacks
