Wolf's Rain Two: Part 7

Heartbreak

Rowan paced quickly, eyes wide and ears flattened. She'd wait until Tsume woke up...then they'd talk...Oh, she was so ashamed and embarassed at herself! What if she broke the guy's heart? Or did he really care?

Pricking her ears, she stopped when it began to thunder. The wind had changed from cold to warm, a dangeorus sign. Not to mention the dark clouds surrounding them. Today wasn't going to be a good day, Rowan could tell.

Hearing pawsteps, Rowan turned to see Tsume padding right over. He looked more relaxed than he had ever been around her, and even wagged his tail in greeting. Oh...how can I do this to him? Rowan made up her mind. She'd tell the pack the truth...and deal with the embarassment.

"Hi Tsume," She muttered and kept her blue gaze on the ground.

Tsume tipped his head slightly. "You ok?"

"Yeah, great." Rowan blinked, avoiding his eyes. She turned and began to walk back to the alley where the others would be angrily waiting for them, and kept her head low.

Rowan could feel Tsume's gaze pinned on her, watching her leave. Disapointment filled the air and pricked at Rowan's heart. The wolf had softened finally, but in that time had made a big mistake...

"Where WERE you?!" Hige snapped with bared fangs. Blue put a tail on his shoulder to calm him.

"He's just worried, Rowan. You guys turned up missing ever since we woke up at dawn. The sun got higher and higher, and you guys were missing." Though Blue didn't sound too happy that Rowan was back. She'd already guessed what happened, obviously.

And Hige seemed angry for more than one reason. He realized that Tsume had blown his chance with Rowan, even though Hige was mates with Blue.

Toboe stood at the back near Rain, as usual. Rain sat down and flicked an ear, not saying anything. Both pups learned to keep their mouth shut when the older wolves were in a bristling discussion.

Tsume appeared at the entrance of the alleyway, but ignored it as all gazes turned to him. Eyes narrowing as usual, he passed them and went to lay down in the corner he usually stayed at.

The golden and tan wolf turned to glare at Tsume. "Where exactly did you two go off to?" Hige is really pissed...Rowan held in a growl.

Tsume lifted his head and sat up, glaring right back at him. "Well did we ever question when you and Blue ran off for a few days?" Hige shut up and looked away, fur bristling, knowing exactly why Rowan and Tsume had gone missing now.

Instead of it being Hige who shot back, Blue did. "Oh this is great! Just what we need; two pregnant wolves going on a trip to Paradise."

Tsume jumped up with wide eyes and whipped around to Toboe and Rain, who nearly fell over when he snarled at them. "WHAT?!"

Blue rolled her eyes. "Not Rain, idiot, me." Telling by how Hige didn't faint or freak out, Rowan decided Blue had told him in the time of yesterday night and this morning.

However Tsume sighed with relief. "Good, I was about to cut someone's ear off." Rowan might have laughed, but considering the situation, she'd best not.

Then his ears shot up. "Wait! You mean...ha ha, it's payback time for you Porky." he nearly chuckled, while Hige's eyes widened in realization what pups meant.

"Well dammit." The golden wolf muttered.

The group began to go through the daily tasks of finding food, sleeping and resting for the trip to come, but no one talked like they did the day before...

Rowan kept her distance from Tsume for a good two hours, before he finally stood up to go sit by her. Before he even took three steps forward, Rowan stood up and padded off to a corner and made an excuse that she was tired.

Tsume hung his head slightly but hurried and lifted it back up, swerving to avoid Rowan so it looked like he was headed to talk to the others.

Flattening her ears, Rowan felt terrible. She really didn't want to be like that, but she needed a little space after what had happened.

Waking up, she saw Blue pad over, but she looked friendly now. Rowan lifted her head and sat up. The two friends talked for a while, until nightfall when Blue said something after making sure everyone was asleep.

"You feel bad, don't you?" Rowan nodded a bit, and Blue continued. "Well you do know it's not exactly all your fault. I just don't think you should beat yourself up about it, Rowan."

"What do you mean it's not all my fault? I kind of started it..." Rowan looked up.

Blue shrugged. "Well...I'll tell you this; It may have been your first time, but I can promise it wasn't his. He'd a little older than you, of course he had more experience and knew what he was doing. What I mean by this is, it was your instinct. He knew better and could have told you no, but did he?"

Rowan shook her head and lowered her gaze.

"Exactly. Now stop beating yourself up or I will." Blue laughed and turned to walk back to Hige after talking a bit more with Rowan to get her mind off of the Tsume subject.

"DAMMIT!"

Rowan lunged up from her sleep with wide eyes, as well as Blue. "What the fuck?" Rowan snarled. "I'm trying to sleep here!"

Yeah. You're definately Tsume's type, her mind told herself. Shaking her head and clearing her vision, she saw Hige and Tsume racing around, searching the alley.

Blue blinked with a growl. "What now?"

"Toboe and Rain are gone now!" Hige whipped around to glare at Tsume. "See what you've put in their heads-" He cut off when two familiar youngsters padded in.

Thankfully they didn't look suspicious, but they had rabbits in their jaws and smelled the same. Sighing with relief, Blue went over to them. "They just were hungry, stop freaking, Hige!"

Tsume turned to Hige with a very angry expression, hackles risen and fur bristling. "You were saying, Porky?"

"Eh...hungry?" He offered.

"Did we miss something?" Toboe asked with a tipped head.

Rowan stretched when everyone began getting ready to leave. Each wolf was rested and full, able to get a move on.

But there was a big suprise headed their way.

Suddenly Toboe started sniffing when they began to leave the town. The young wolf halted and nearly turned in all directions before taking off the opposite way everyone was going. After that he stopped and stood on his back legs like an idiot sniffing, then landed on all fours and ran off again.

"Toboe?" Rain blinked and followed on fast paws.

Hige rolled his eyes and ran after them while Tsume stayed with the two others. But soon he stopped and scented the air. With wide eyes he turned quickly to the others. "Guys, get over here!"

Tsume narrowed his gaze but padded over, Blue and Rowan coming as well. Great, what now, she thought, though stopped growling when a scent hit her nose.

Sniffing curiously, she asked what the sweet smell was.

Blue wagged her tail a mile an hour, eyes bright. "That's Lunar Flowers!! But...if...Kiba!" Another, different, but unmistakably male scent came to them along with the Lunar Flowers.

Every wolf, except for Rowan who stood in the same spot with confusion, took off running after the smell.

Tsume halted and turned to look at her. "Come on!" Snapping out of it, Rowan followed the others.

They ran for quite a while, even heading into the parts of the town Rowan didn't even know. Finally when Blue was nearly ten yards behind, Toboe halted and looked down an alley between two burned down buildings.

Hige halted behind him along with Rain who was nearly out of breath. Tsume slowly went over while Rowan walked by Blue towards the alley. Rowan sped up a bit and went to go look for what they were staring at.

Down at the end of the alley, lay an unconcious, badly beaten white wolf. Beside him was a smaller wolf, probably a pup, scrawny and barely awake.

Blue's jaw dropped when she saw. "Well what are you all staring at? That's Kiba down there!"

Hige began to run down the alley, but halted when the white wolf lunged up and landed infront of the pup, glaring madly at the group with blazing amber eyes.

"GET AWAY! YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING DOGS!" The wolf snarled as loud as it could manage. It's voice was stronger than it's body, but Hige backed off with a whimper immediately.

Tsume curled his lip. "Kiba! It's us, snap out of it!" The white wolf didn't even think twice about these strangers, just kept snarling like a rabid beast.

Rowan got a better look, and noticed scars running over the wolf's face and body, some old, some painfully new. Flattening her ears, Rowan felt sympathetic. This was the old friend that Toboe and Tsume had kept going on about when they were traveling here; and he couldn't even remember them.

Pricking their ears, the group began to hear a low whimper, and turned their attention past Kiba, at the white pup. "This One...remembers....Kiba..." The larger white wolf turned to the pup, then shook his head as if to clear it, and turned to the group of wolves.

Blue nearly fell over. "That pup...it's Cheza!" The others were completely stunned.

"...Toboe? Tsume? Hige, Blue? I-is that really you guys...?" The white wolf stopped bristling.

The group slowly padded forward, before finally wagging their tails and acknowledging their leader.

"Kiba, it is you then!"

"Gee what happened to you? You must've got in a real scrap."

"How did you find us?!"

"Why in the heck is Cheza a wolf, a pup at that?"

Rowan stayed back along with Rain, being the only wolves who didn't know him personally.

Kiba kept a bit silent, then wagged his tail in greeting at his friends. "I found Cheza. But they were keeping her. She isn't a human, this time. But she is the same Cheza, I promise. She needs help."

Blue flicked her tail, "And so do you." She turned to the rest of the group. "It seems we will be staying a few extra days, guys." Ignoring the thunder up ahead, she turned to Kiba. "Hige and I have an alley where no one bothers us. Come on."

Kiba nodded and turned to watch as Tsume helped carry Cheza carefully back.
