Father

This is just a short story about Auroa's dad.

After only one week after coming back to Nome, Auroa wonders who her father was. She knew her mother was a white and brown siberian husky, and her dad was obviously a wolf; but who was he? Why did he leave her and Auroa's mother by themselves? She told her mate, Kodi, what was troubling her. He tried to comfort her, but after living with a wolf pack for a year, the question just popped up in her mind, "Well" Kodi was talking to her while tey were walking along the beach by Balto's boat, "go and look for him, at least then you might meet up with him," Auroa frowned at him.

"There must be hundreds of wolves out there," she turned her head toward the ocean, "any one of them could be my dad, besides I don't know what he looks like; and he probably didn't stay with my mother long enough to know she had pups," she became angry at the thought of this.

"It's worth a try," Kodi said putting his head under hers to show his affection, "If you don't find him in seven days, then you can come back here," he stared at her with his head out from under hers.

"You mean you're not going with me?" she asked looking surprised at him. Usually if she was going to do something like this he would want to tag along.

"I think this is something you should do on your own. It's your family, and I might just slow you down," he smiled at her and she smiled back.

"I'll start tomorrow," and she ran back to the boiler room to rest.

The next day she got up before sunrise and ran off towards the forest. She ran across tundras, hills, and when she got to a rocky area with a waterfall north of it a voice talked to Auroa saying, "Auroa? Is that really you?" it was a male voice. Auroa looked around and couldn't see anyone near where she was.

"Who are?" she demanded snarling and showing her teeth, "Show yourself!"

"Alright, alright! Sheesh you don't have to get all mad!" and a figure walked through the mist of water. It was a brown and white wolf with a scar going over his eye. Auroa stared at him puzzled, "What?" the wolf asked, "Oh I get it; you don't recognize me do ya? Well maybe this will jog your memory," he howled at the sky like a puppy would and Auroa's ears shot up and she smiled.

"Nemesis!" she squealed now recognizing the wolf, "You've grown alot since I last saw you and the pack old friend! What happened to your eye though?" he laughed heartily now that Auroa had figured out who he was.

"Ahhhh, some owl attacked me, but he left me alone after he found out I wasn't a very fat rat!" they both laughed. Nemesis was one of Auroa's old childhood friends when she lived with a wolf pack as a pup, "So what does brings you back to this side of the forest?" he said jumping onto an outstretched rocked and layed down.

"I'm looking for my dad," she told him. Nemesis looked at her like she was crazy.

"Auroa," he said in a calm, serious voice, "you gotta be kinding me? You're looing for your dad!? That's crazy! There hundreds of wolves out there, and some of them don't live around here!"

"I know that!" she snapped at him, "I'm only going to look for him for a week; and if I don't find him, thenI'll go back home," she started walking away and Nemesis followed. She turned and saw him following her, "Why are you following me?"

"Well you're gonna need some help," he replied happily while trotting forward.

"With what?" she hissed at him. Nemesis recoiled back in surprise.

"The forest has changed a lot since you left Auroa," Nemesis mumbled so only Auroa could hear him, "Plus there are many wolves out there who may want to kill you," he said in a serious voice.

"Fine," Auroa gave in as she rolled her eyes at him, "but I'm much more faster than the last time you saw me; so try to keep up," she started climbing the jagged rocks with Nemesis following her. Once they were on the top of the rock pile they ran toward forest and Nemesis asked, "So were do you live nowadays?" he asked grinning at her as she started to run faster.

"I live in a town," Nemesis' jaw dropped and he almost stopped.

"A human town?" he asked in shock, then he smirked, "Well, you always did have a facination with humans anyway," he said. Auroa made no reply, "So do you already have a man?" he asked questionongly.

"Like a human man or a dog?" she asked still facing forward.

"Both," he replied chuckling.

"Yes and no," she replied chuckling to herself.

"So you're still single?" he asked hopefully.

"Nope."

"But-"

"I said yes and no; besides if I did have a human I would have a collar on stupid!" she bit him on the ear playfully. He made no move or reply, "Why do you ask?" she asked him.

"Ummmmm...it's a little hard to explain that," he stuttered. But he didn't have to explain, Auroa already knew what he was talking about, "So who's the poor old soul who has to share his life time with you?" Auroa shoved him playfully and he bit her ear.

"His name is Kodi," she snapped at him, "he's just like me," she mumbled, "That is for the wolf-dog part," she added hurriedly. Nemesis snorted and they kept running.

After two days of searching, Nemesis and Auroa still couldn't find her father or anything that may give them a hint. They walked on for one hour and Nemesis froze dead in his tracks, frightened, "What's wrong?" she asked him stopping. He didn't have to answer, Auroa looked ahead of her and saw nine wolves smirking and grinning evily.

"RUN!" Nemesis screamed, turning tail and running for his life with Auroa and the wolves right behind him. They ran through a few trees that had very faint scratch marks on them from a long time ago. Nemesis skidded to a stop while sliding down toward the edge of a cliff; Auroa and the wolves did the same thing. The nine wolves looked around and scrambled back from wence they came from. Auroa looked at Nemesis questioningly, and he shrugged in confusion. Nemesis dropped his jaw with his eyes wide and he lifted his at Auroa. She turned around and saw a huge white wolf with great yellow eyes. Auroa was fumbstruck and couldn't move. She just stared at the wolf in amazement. The wolf looked back and said, "Hello Auroa," he said in a powerful voice, "I've been waiting for you for a long time now. I was wondering if you would ever come here befroe I died," Nemesis and Auroa were still staring at the white wolf in awe.

"Who...." Auroa began but then the wolf answered her question before she could ask.

"I knew you wouldn't recognize me," the wolf answered her, "I'm your father Auroa," Auroa was as shocked as Nemesis was. A surge of rage swept through Auroa and she put her face right in front of the wolve's.

"Why did you leave her?!" she yelled at her dad, "Why didn't you help take care of her and my siblings?" she about to cry, but she was holding back the tears.

"Auoa," he said nuzzling his child for the first time, "When you couldn't open your eyes, a man came to the woods. I knew your mother wouldn't abandon you or your siblings so I decided to distract the human, and lead as far away from your mother as possble. It worked but when I thought he was still following me, he apparently went back and found your mother and siblings. I ran back there, and I managed to save one pup; he was a black and grey wolf. The man took you and the others away, and I knew I couldn't take care of the wolf pup, so I went to my old friend Nava, to take care of him. The pup's name was Niju," Auroa laid her ears back against her head, "I stayed here, hoping you would come here, but instead a brown wolf-dog fell of the cliff, and I went down to help. And I succeded, he went back up the cliff while pulling a crate with him. Well I think you two should be getting back home now; I will lead to the outskirts of your town Auroa, but no further," she nodded and her father lead the way back to their homes. Nemesis was still in shock, but he followed.

After two more days of walking, with Nemesis ruturned back home, Auroa was staring at the town where she lived. She walked up to her father and nuzzled him a good-bye; and she ran back home howling in joy. She could see Kodi, Angel, and Kavik running toward her with Jenna and Balto just sitting and watching them, smiling. She went up to Kodi and nuzzled him, she bit Angel and Kavik playfully on the ears, and told them what happened.

"I met a white wolf once," Balto said listening to their conversation, "Maybe it was the same one," Auroa smiled and replied happily, "It was."
