A story written by SGA in 2003. Sasha and other characters are property of SGA and SGA only. Anyone found copying me will be eaten by Ronno!

Prologue

Now, you may think Balto was impressive, but this is really cool. Sasha is a wolf, and in this part of the story, he is a cub. He lives with his two siblings, sister May and brother Rover. He also lives with his parents, Blackmoon and Alue. They live away from the human village and the other wolves. You’ll see why in a moment.

Characters

Blackmoon- Sasha’s father

Alue-Sasha’s mysterious mother

Claw- the wolf of Sasha’s dreams….

Ronno-he means business…

Sasha- Our hero

Rover- Sasha’s joker of a brother

Whowtfiel (Fox) – what’s his secret?

Rick- Ronno’s dad and Blackmoon’s evil brother

It all started one gloomy night in summer. Sasha and his siblings were 4 weeks old.

The wind blew the trees in the forest in Stag Valley, as the typical English summer storms raged in fury over all creatures that lived there. Most animals were asleep, all except for one small family. Blackmoon was a wolf. Alue was a wolf/husky. Blackmoon had grown up with his parents in the wild with his brothers, Rick and Todd. Alue had grown up with her wolf half sister, Aniu in the wild. They lived with their three cubs, Rover, Sasha and May, in a small tree den on a cliff, for a reason. They lived in this desolate place as Alue, who was wolf/husky, had met up with Blackmoon and they had had cubs. They were in danger, as at this point in time, behind all the humans back, the wolves were at war. The council thought that it was wrong for any cubs to be born if they were half or quarter husky. They hated anything husky or dog. Although they would not kill the family, there were wolves that would. Still, the pair was cautious of what may happen if they got in anyone’s way, so they stayed far away from anyone.

However, back to the actual story, they were just getting to sleep.

“Time to go to bed, I think” Blackmoon yawned.

“Aw, daddy, I’m not tired yet!” May said, in the sweetest tone she could.

“Come on” He said, nuzzling his 4 week old daughter. “Let’s get some rest”

The three cubs settled with their mother, the white wolf/husky Alue. Blackmoon lay down next to Alue. Just as he was dozing off, a strange smell reached his nostrils and jolted him awake. He sat up.

“What’s wrong?” Alue asked, sounding scared.

“We’ve got company, and they’re definitely not friendly” Blackmoon answered.

“What are you going to do?” Alue asked.

Her question was immediately answered, and Blackmoon walked out the den and onto the cliff top. Suddenly, a large grey and white evil looking wolf stepped out of the bushes, followed by a smaller black and white wolf, who looked just as evil.

“Well, well, well” The black and white wolf said. “Blackmoon”

“What have I ever done to you?” Blackmoon asked.

The wolf growled. They got close together and began a whispered conversation, so quiet that Alue and the cubs could not hear.

“Blacky” Alue cried, anxiously.

“One minute” Blackmoon told her, and he carried on in a quiet conversation with the two strange wolves.

After a few moments of this, the smaller black and white wolf began to growl.

“You and your family don’t deserve to live!” He yelled. The other wolf stood in front of Blackmoon, whilst the other took to the position behind him. The black and white wolf snarled, and grabbed Blackmoon’s back leg. Blackmoon yelled so loudly that the cliffs echoed with screeches, and birds left their nests. He swung Blackmoon around, and let go as he was facing the cliff edge. Blackmoon flew through the air, and tumbled over the cliff edge. Alue screamed, so loudly that the two wolves turned to look at the den. She turned to look at the cubs.

“When I jump out of here, I want you three to run. Don’t look back. You are wolves, and you must follow your heart” She whispered, although the three could see she was crying, and was not as calm as she looked. “Never come back here again”

She leapt out the den, in front of the two very startled wolves. The cubs leapt out behind her, and into the bushes. Rover looked back at the scene. His mother was stood, facing the two wolves, and May was sat at her heels, weeping.

“May!” He cried.

It was too late. The wolves had seen her, and grabbed her by the scruff of the neck. Rover and Sasha, (who didn’t want to hang about to see the gory sight) fled through the bushes. They suddenly heard a loud pinging noise, and it was suddenly very foggy in the forest. Rover, who was startled by the sudden change in atmosphere, walked backwards into Sasha.

“This way!” He yelled through the fog. “Can you smell that? Those wolves are chasing us!”

Sasha knew Rover was in charge and was more responsible, so he leapt behind a bush after him. The wolves thudded past, leaving the two cubs some more time to grieve for their two lost parents and their sister.

“Come on. Let’s go. Mum said we shouldn’t go back” He sounded more weak than usual. He usually took a chance like this to be in charge, but his voice sounded squeaky and unsure.

He led Sasha across the cliff. A huge tree trunk was lying across the gap between the two cliffs. They began to walk across it. Suddenly, the wind picked up. Sasha walked along, head up. Suddenly, he felt his foot slipping from under him, and his back leg fell of the trunk. He screamed. Rover turned around in shock. He turned quickly, and as Sasha clung on to the log with his claws, the trunk gave a horrible jerk. Rover tumbled sideways off the log, and yelled as he fell into the water below. Sasha peered over the log, and pulled himself back up. His heart thudded in his chest, and as tears poured down his face, he galloped into the forest. He reached the next cliff edge, and howled into the mountains, a very mournful, grieving song.

Chapter 1

One year later…

It was quiet. Too quiet. It was so quiet you could hear the very distant rustle of the leaves on the trees. A panting noise came from the bushes in a clearing. The birds flew away as a rustle echoed around, and a noise of thudding caribou hooves could be heard. The caribou herd got nearer. The things in the bushes shifted impatiently, crouching down low out of sight.

The caribou clambered past, a brave young stag leading them. A wolf pack leapt out of the bushes, and went for a weak, old caribou at the back. Two of the wolves herded it away into the forest. Three other wolves, including the alpha, took to other side of it, and the rest of the wolves surrounded it. They brought it to the ground.

* * * * *

“Everybody eat up!” Sasha told the rest of the pack. He announced this from a huge rock, so as to be heard by the other wolves. “This may be the last square meal we have in a long, long time. You know how the caribou are troubling us”

Sasha was an alpha, and although he still thought about his lost family, he knew it was just an event of the past. He had his own pack now, and they were his responsibility.

He sat on his high rock, and he began to sniff. A beautiful smell wafted through his nostrils, filling him was joy.

“More caribou!” He cried.

He quickly told the pack, and they left the carcass behind to find the other herd that Sasha could smell.

They spotted them quickly; it was a small herd of only five grazing in a clearing. The pack got down low in the long grass. Sasha licked his lips. Maybe his pack would survive after all. Caribou were a rarity now, as they had crossed the great water, although no one knew how. Suddenly, another smell caught his attention, although it was not a caribou. It was another wolf pack. He pricked his ears up. The caribou lifted their heads up. The other wolf pack was on the other side of the clearing. Sasha pounced, and so did the alpha of the other wolf pack. The caribou dodged, and the two wolves collided. The caribou bolted out of the clearing.

“You ruined my kill!” The other wolf yelled. He looked Sasha in the eye, and Sasha looked him in the eye. The other wolf stopped, and stared in disbelief. Sasha knew he recognized the wolf from his past. He was a big, black and white wolf, and he was much bigger that Sasha.

“Get ‘em pack” The wolf told his pack.

Before he knew what was happening, the others wolf’s pack was attacking Sasha’s pack. The big black and white wolf went for Sasha. He dodged, and leapt into a bush. The wolf looked furious, and went to help bring the pack down. Sasha crouched down, and watched as his whole life was tarnished again. When it had finished, and the wolves had gone, Sasha sat in thought. What could he do now?

In the end, he decided to leave his home, Stag Valley, and travel to Gads Hill. He decided this would be a safer option. He fled through the forest, the hills, the fields, and leapt over logs and streams, but nothing would help him forget all that had happened to him. He reached a new valley. He had never been here before, and decided it was the best place to stay. He went off to explore the landscape. He walked along the stream. Suddenly, a piece of metal glinted in the sunlight, and caught his eye. It was a railway line. He walked up and down, sniffing it. He began to walk along it. Suddenly, he heard a voice.

“Get off the track!” It was a female voice.

He turned to see a female grey wolf stood on the top of the hill crest
