doesn’t get too cold in the winter. They get very protective if they see strangers on their land. They may attack if they get the chance.” Ashlie explained.
“No!” Jenna said.
“Then how come you didn’t attack us?” Banshee said, trying to make all the fuss seem for no reason.
“I’m one wolf against a pack of dogs, what do you think would be the smart thing to do.” Ashlie said bitterly to Banshee.
Banshee rolled his eye and looked away from Ashlie.
“We’ve gotta get out of here. C’mon, get up.” Ashlie ordered.
All the dogs quietly got up, and looked in the direction the wolves were.
“How do we know that we’re not gonna just walk right into another packs territory?” Sage asked.
“By smell. See if anything has been marked.” Ashlie replied quietly. “Now let’s go, we have to hurry.” she added.
“Oh forget it, they’re not gonna find us.” Banshee said as he lied back down.
Balto was already getting fed up with Banshee. He growled and licked his lips.
Banshee reluctantly stood back up and sneered at Balto.
The wolves howled again. They were even closer to the dogs than they were before.
Decoy started to shiver. “Guys!” he said nervously.
“Shh! Everybody, this way.” Ashlie instructed. She began to walk in the opposite direction of the wolves, and the rest of the dogs followed.
“How far do we have to go?” Balto asked.
“I don’t know. But let’s pick up the pace.” Ashlie began to canter, and everyone did the same.
Decoy stopped and looked back, to make sure nothing was there. He turned his head towards the rest of the pack and continued on, now in the back of the group.
They kept going for a few minutes, then came to a stop.
“We should be safe here.” Ashlie said as she lied down.
Decoy whined again as he looked around.
“Calm down Decoy.” Scout said softly.
Decoy whined as he heard something walking around near by. “Something’s still out there.” he said.
“Knock it off Decoy, now go to sleep!” Steele demanded.
“Will you guys quit picking on me?” Decoy whispered loudly as he turned his head towards Steele. He whined one more time and closed his eyes.

Day 3
The next morning, Decoy felt a nudge on his muzzle. He opened his eyes to find Jenna standing in front of him, smiling, and the rest of the dogs walking away.
“Oh.” Decoy said. He immediately got up and cantered to the dogs and Jenna followed.
Decoy cantered up next to Balto, and slowed to a walk. “Where are we?” he asked as he pranced along.
“We’re still at the beginning of the mountain range.” We still have a long way to go.” Balto replied.
“What’s that?” Rylie asked as he looked ahead.
Balto narrowed his eyes and spoke. “I don’t know.” he started to run and the other dogs followed.
They all stopped in front of a huge pile of rocks and boulders and examined it. There was no way around.
“There’s no way we can make it over that.” Sage declared.
“I guess we better find another way.” Steele said as he, Banshee, and Rylie began to turn around.
“No.” Balto said.
The three stopped and looked back at him.
“What?” Ashlie asked.
“Are you even looking at this thing? There’s no way we can get over it.” Rylie said as he turned completely around.
“We have to keep trying.” said Brendon.
“We’ll get killed.” Scout argued.
“No, you just don’t want to go any further cuz you don’t think that we’ll be able to make it home.” said Brendon.
“Well then why am I here?” Scout asked.
“Skip the fighting and lets just go!” Ashlie demanded.
Balto began to climb up the rocks.
“Yeah! Last one to the top is rotten meat!” Decoy yelled as he began to run up the rocks, not caring that it’s extremely dangerous, he’s still too immature.
Chenelle, Jenna, Brendon, and Scout followed.
“You must be crazy.” Banshee snapped as he turned around.
“Come on you guys.” Ashlie said loudly.
Steele sighed and started to follow.
“Steele!” Sage yelled.
“We have no other choice.” Steele said.
Rylie sighed and started to climb, and Sage followed.
Banshee gawked for a few seconds, then reluctantly and angrily followed.
Scout was right behind Jenna, then when she stepped, she wasn’t able to crip the rock. She slid down, and banged into Steele, who almost fell, but was held up by Rylie, who was pushing up with all his might. Balto looked back and gawked as he saw what was happening.
“Rylie, be careful.” said Sage, who was right behind him.
“Jenna, Decoy, keep going.” Ashlie ordered. She climbed back down and right before Scout was about to roll off of Steele, Ashlie grabbed onto her collar, and pulled back a little as she groaned.
She smiled as Scout smiled back. She gained back her strength and continued climbing.
Ashlie carefully turned around and ran back up.
“Good job Ashlie.” Balto praised as he smiled.
“Aw, thanks.” She responded.
Brendon’s back leg slipped on a rock, he slid down a little, but still kept his grip with his two front paws.
“Brendon, you ok?” Steele asked.
“Yeah.” Brendon said as he pulled himself up.
Jenna and Decoy had made it to the top, and were waiting for the rest of the pack. The rest of them made it up with no problem at all. They turned around and stared at their way down.
“We can make it.” said Scout.
Then, all of the sudden, a rock that Balto’s back legs were standing on rolled. He tumbled all the way down and landed at the bottom with a loud thud.
All the dogs turned around and gasped as they looked down at the motionless hero.
“Balto?” Jenna yelled.
Balto didn’t budge.
“Balto?” Steele said louder.
The wolfdog still didn’t move.
“Oh no.” Ashlie whispered.
They all lowered their heads and quietly whined a few times.
Jenna shed a tear and closed her eyes as she slid her head under Rylie’s neck. Rylie nuzzled her and whined.
“Oh my god.” Scout whispered.
Sage stared sadly at Balto, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything.
Banshee didn’t care one bit. He was ruthless, and his face was determined. “Let’s keep going, I’ll lead.” he said as he continued to climb down.
Steele began to turn back towards the other way, then stopped and turned back around when he saw Balto moving out of the corner of his eye.
All the dogs raised their heads and gasped.
Balto slowly pushed himself up as he groaned. When he finally stood, the dogs could see blood where his right back leg used to lay in the patch of snow. They all gasped.
“Are you ok?” Jenna asked.
“No. I think my leg got slashed on a sharp point.” Balto said weakly.
“Can you climb back up?” Rylie asked.
“I’ll try.” said Balto.
He stepped onto the first boulder and hopped up to the second, holding up his injured leg. He stepped up a few more and collapsed.
“Keep going, Balto.” Ashlie encouraged.
“Come on you can do it!” said Sage.
He got back up and walked a little further. He felt a rock beginning to roll backwards under his paws. He quickly jumped up to another rock as the other rolled all the way down. He looked back at the rock as he panted heavily. He looked back up and groaned as he pulled him self higher.
“Good job Balto.” Jenna said softly.
Brendon pulled Balto up by the scruff of his neck.
“Are you alright?” Jenna asked as she nuzzled Balto.
“I think so. Come on, lets keep going.” Balto said as he started down the pile. All the dogs made it, with no problems at all.
Balto was the last to make it down. He jumped onto the grass. His front half collapsed, but he quickly got up and spoke. “C’mon, let’s go!” he yelled.
All the dogs ran down the path.
Then, a huge black bear came down from a hill and saw the drops of blood. He looked at the blood, then looked ahead to see a trail that was left behind by Balto. He sniffed the blood, he knew that the trail was fresh, and the injured animal must be too. He looked ahead, his head still low to the ground and growled loudly, showing his huge teeth.
The dogs ran for a while, then slowed to a walk and panted.

Back in the old mill, Doc, Togo, Buller, Trigger, Amber, and Duchess, and many other dogs were inside talking about what was heard on the news about 8 dogs missing in the mountains.
“Are they sure that they’re on that mountain?” Amber asked.
“Yes.” Doc replied. “A plane was flying low, and passing over and saw the dogs trotting across the
