field.
The dog looked at Copper, and then looked at Hunter and Dodger. They knew what was going to happen next. A few began to trot over to the two dogs, hoping they could settle the argument without a brawl.
Dodger didn’t care one bit about Hunter’s threats, he just kept laughing at the grey Malamute.
Hunter had enough, his threat didn’t work, so now it was time for the fight that he was just itching to do.
He immediately lunged at Dodger’s throat and clamped his jaws in a lock down. Dodger let out a loud and painful yelp. Blood was already pouring from Dodger’s punctured neck. Hunter slammed Dodger to the ground, and had him pinned as he growled and slightly shook his head, still holding Dodger down by the neck. Hunter stepped away from Dodger for a brief moment. Dodger took advantage of this and immediately got up, but it wasn’t a very smart thing to do. Everyone knows that Hunter would never just let anyone get up from a fight unless he had a plan. Hunter leaped on Dodger and sank his fangs into the scruff of his neck, and tore away, leaving bits of bloody fur in his mouth. Hunter spit out the furs and the two continued to fight. They were both slashing and biting each other, the other dogs were running to the scene, ready to try and break it up.
Dodger had found the strength to get up on his hind legs to fight Hunter. Hunter was determined to keep going for Dodger’s neck as long as possible, and to get there, he needed to rear up too.
Just then, a Huge Pyrenean Mountain Dog named Brendon banged into Hunter.
This dog was huge, about 32 inches at the shoulder, which is bigger than a Newfoundland, yet their structure is quite similar. Brendon was all cream colored, his had tan fur all on his face, except for the top of his head, between his eyes, and his muzzle. The fur on his fore limbs formed culottes of woolly feathering.
Dodger fell to the ground, and was unable to get up from damage that Hunter had inflicted on his leg.
Brendan threw Hunter to the ground and stepped over him. The two began to nip at each others face, until Hunter was able to push the massive dog off of him. Hunter Put his two front paws on Brendon’s back, and bit down on the scruff of his neck. Hunter pulled the dog down and aimed his bloody fangs for the neck. Brendon was thrashing, and threw his leg in the way of his neck, causing Hunter to grab onto it. Hunter pulled on Brendon’s leg, leaving deep cuts, then dropped the dogs abraded leg onto the ground. Hunter saw no reason to kill Brendon, so he decided to end the brawl with him.
Half of the dogs that were in the meadow ran off barking, back to their homes to get their owners.
Both Hunter and Dodger were covered in blood and wounds, each getting weaker and weaker. Fortunately for Hunter, Dodger was already very weak, and Hunter was still very quick on his paws. Hunter took one last look at the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, then glanced at Dodger, who was finally able to stand up. Hunter sprinted away from the sabotaged dog, and turned and lunged back at his throat. Dodger fell to the ground and thrashed as he whined for one last time. Hunter raised his head, and bit down. Suddenly, Dodger went limp. Hunter let go of the dog’s neck, and it dropped to the blood stained grass.
Copper couldn’t believe what he had just seen. It was the most gruesome fight that Hunter had ever been in, and it was his millionth kill. And he was soon to find out that it was all for nothing.
Hunter backed away from the dead dog, and looked at Natasha, who’s eyes were wide as it could be.
“NO!” Natasha yelled. She ran up to Dodger’s still body and nudged his head. She looked down at him and whined.
The four other dogs that were part of the gossip circle, ran over to Dodger to check for any signs of life. But there were none.
Others rushed over to Brendon to help him up.
Hunter slowly walked up to Natasha. When he was a yard away from her, she stepped back. They both paused.
“What is it?” Hunter asked.
“What did you do?” she asked. “How could you?!”
The four dogs, a Golden Retriever, a Dunker, a Clumber Spaniel, and an Irish Setter, were all growling at Hunter, with their head lowered, ready to attack, in case he tried anything sly.
“Because he’s not good enough for you. Didn’t you see how I bested him? You need someone like me. Who has so much more dominance than him.” Hunter said.
“Hunter...I told you......I will never love you. We’re just friends. I love Dodger. And now you killed him! How could you do that to me?” she yelled.
“What?” Hunter asked.
“If you REALLY loved me, you wouldn’t have hurt me so badly!” she barked.
“But Natasha-” Hunter began.
“I HATE YOU!” Natasha interrupted. She swung her paw across his face, leaving yet another wound for Hunter.
She turned and ran off into the woods, back towards her home, sobbing.
The Dunker glanced at Hunter, then ran after Natasha, hoping he could cheer her up.
Hunter just stood there and panted as the dogs who remained in the meadow stared at him.
Copper carefully approached Hunter and spoke. “I told you not to do it.” he said quietly.
“Ugh!” Hunter said in pain as he swung his head to the side.
He began to walk towards the lake and slowly walked in and washed off all the blood.
He came out of the water, beaten almost to death, and shook the water off of him.
Copper closed his eyes tightly, trying not to let the drops of water in. “Are you alright?” Copper asked.
Just then, Hunter perked his ears. “Do you hear that?” he asked. He heard people. People coming towards them, with barking dogs. Hunter knew that it was the dogs coming with their owners. Hunter would be sentenced to death if he had been seen with the wounds all over him.
“Let’s go!” he yelled as he bolted to the other end of the field.
Copper followed him and they both disappeared into the woods and ran back home as fast as they could.

2 weeks later, Hunter’s wounds were almost healed, and the neighborhood dogs heard the news that Buddy was confirmed to be dead. Brendon, but his wounds were still not fully healed. Hunter had never gotten what he wanted. Natasha had continued to be nothing but terrible to him, and constantly insulted him for being a murderer.
Hunter had entered the field for one last time, and he had found Natasha alone, laying down in the very spot where Dodger had died.
Hunter approached her with his head hung low.
“Natasha?” he said.
“What do you want?” she asked bitterly.
“I wanted to apologize, and say that we should give us a try.” he said.
Natasha realized that this was a rare occasion, Hunter never apologized for anything before. He must’ve been pretty desperate.
“No Hunter! You killed my boyfriend! Why would I...or anyone EVER want to be with a murderer like YOU?!” she yelled with anger.
Hunter couldn’t take it anymore. He couldn’t stand the teasing, the mocking, the tormenting, the name calling, or the beatings any more.
He crouched down and growled at Natasha.
Natasha stood up and began to walk away. But it was a very bad move to turn your back on Hunter when he was angry.
Hunter lunged at her as he barked. The two dogs began to fight.
Hunter had grabbed the scruff of her neck and pulled on it as hard as he could. Natasha tried to bite his neck, but she just couldn’t reach it.
Hunter slashed her face, and she was forced to step back from the blow. Hunter lunged at her neck and bit down. She let out a yelp, and she thrashed to get away.
Hunter let go, and pushed her to the ground with his two front paws. The fight was quick, but Natasha was beaten. She laid there panting, barely alive.
We could’ve been together Natasha, but instead you chose this! The death of your boyfriend, and now the death of you.” he scolded.
Natasha laid there on the ground, and whined in pain.
Hunter sneered at her.
Natasha closed her eyes. Hunter could tell that she was still alive, because she was still breathing, but hardly at all.
He sighed and walked away from her, never to see her, or the field ever again.
A month later, he had moved to Nome.
Hunter never liked it much in the new “frozen wasteland” as he called it. It was bitter cold everyday, the streets were crowded with people and dog teams, and all his owner ever did was sit around at home after he had lost his new job. Hunter had not been fighting anymore since there was no dog fighting center in Nome, and Copper just did nothing. It had become quite clear, that moving to Nome was a bad idea. Eventually, Hunter’s owner was running out of money, and had to go back down south to find a new job, but he couldn’t afford to take his dogs with him. So on the day his plane came to take him away, he abandoned his two dogs, and never looked back.

Hunter faded from his flashback as he kept walking with and angry look on his face.
“Hunter? You ok?” Copper asked.
“Yeah....fine.” Hunter replied, as the fury faced from his face.
“As I was saying, you don’t have a very good reputation around here.” Copper added.
“Yeah, but neither do you!” Hunter
