The Journey Home

After “Test of Friendship”

The story begins in Nome, The owners of Steele, Sage, Balto and Jenna, Rylie and Scout, Decoy, Brendon, and Banshee were all soon to be on their way to another town for a while, but they needed someone to look after their dogs for them. Hunter, the grey Malamute, and Copper, the Eskimo dog are back, and pick a final fight with Balto and his gang. We also find out a little bit about Hunter’s past. Scout’s owner knows someone who lives in a town, hundreds of miles away, at the other end of a mountain range, and decided to leave their dogs with her. A few days after the dogs were left under the watchful eyes of Deborah, the homesick canines begin to worry about their owners because they hadn’t come back. Balto decides to leave Deborah, and make his way back to Nome. He manages to convince his friends to tag along, and they even meet a new friend along the way, who decides to travel with them. But what the dogs don’t know is, the mountain range is a lot bigger, and more dangerous than they think. They face many problems trying to find their way back. Like, dealing with Decoy, a spirited pup, and climbing over treacherous terrains, swimming through rushing water, and outsmarting wild animals. When they finally make it home, Dakota, who is now a year-and-a-half old, is ready for a practice run with his mail dog sled team. Then it’s Anela’s turn to live her dream, to live in the wild with her two wolf friends, and their pack.

See if you can guess what movie this is based on...

It’s not plagiarism, it s a tribute to the movie. There are some similarities in events, and I’m not claiming them as my own. I decided to make the movie in a Balto version.

Balto was sitting on the roof of a house watching over the town, on a beautiful summer day. The Golden Collar glistened in the sunlight. When Balto turned his head, he perked up his ears and very slightly tilted his head. He listened closely to Rosie’s mother, and Sage’s owner, a 23 year-old man named Colin. Balto climbed straight down (90 degree angle) several feet, to a lower roof on the house to listen in better on the conversation. He heard them mention the names of Steele, Scout and Rylie, Banshee, and Decoy’s owners as well. They were planning on going on a vacation, and Balto figured they were bringing their dogs too. Balto knew he had to let the other dogs know, he climbed down to do just that. He ran to the old mill as fast as he could. He stood on the doorway and saw a few of his friends. Steele, Rylie and his gang, Duchess, Sage, Amber, and Jenna.

“Guys, our owners are gonna take us somewhere!” Balto announced.

“Where did you hear that?” Rylie asked as he turned his head towards Balto.

Amber picked her head up. “We’re leaving?” She asked.

Balto walked inside. “Yes, I heard Rosie’s mother and Sage’s owner talking about taking us to a friend of Jessie’s.” He explained.

“All of us?” Trigger asked.

“No, just me, Jenna, Rylie, Scout, Banshee, Decoy, Sage, Brendon, and Steele.” Balto replied.

“Where is Brendon anyway?” Rylie asked.

“He’s around.” Balto replied.

“Decoy’s coming?” Banshee asked.

Decoy stood up. “Yeah? What’s wrong with that?” he asked.

Banshee looked over at Decoy, with anger in his eyes. “You better stay away from me for the entire trip, pup.” Banshee said as he got up and walked away from Decoy.

Decoy was the youngest of Rylie’s gang, only 1 year old, very spirited and immature, nicknamed “Pup.” He usually got on Banshee’s nerves, and was constantly tormented by him.

“Balto, are you sure that’s what you heard? I don’t remember hearing Rosie’s parents talking about this.” Jenna said.

“I’m positive.” Balto answered.

“This should be fun.” Sage declared.

“Yeah! I can’t wait!” Decoy barked. “This is gonna be awesome!” He yelled as he ran in a small circle. He began to bark, and all the dogs going on the trip joined in, as a celebration for the vacation ahead of them.

The next day, around 8:00 in the morning, Jenna and Togo were walking alone down the street, and all of the sudden, they heard a growl coming from the alley that they so foolishly passed by. Hunter and Copper walked out and growled at them.

“Hey Jenna.” Hunter said.

Jenna growled and stood her ground.

Then, Togo spoke up. “We’re not gonna back down, Hunter.” he said.

“Is that a challenge?!” Hunter growled. “I think you would’ve learned your lesson by now. Remember last time?” Hunter teased. I could’ve sent you to your grave if I felt up to it that night.”

Togo crouched down and growled back, then barked. “All right, this has gone far enough! I’ll make you a deal Hunter.”

“I’m listening.” Hunter said.

“If you win, then you can boss us around all you want.” Togo replied.

“TOGO!” Jenna yelled.

“But if we win...you have to leave. Leave Nome..and NEVER come back.” Togo finished.

Copper gasped.

“Ha ha, deal.” said Hunter.

“WHAT?!” Copper and Jenna yelled. They couldn’t believe what they had just gotten themselves into.

“This is for everything you guys have done!” Hunter immediately pounced on Togo and attacked him.

Copper viciously pulled on Jenna’s bandana repeated, dragging her towards the alley. She swung her small paw at Copper’s face, forcing him to release his hold. Jenna jumped forward, and began to run towards Hunter and Togo.

Copper jumped in front of Jenna and blocked her path. “Yo, Jenna...you’re friend’s a goner, I’ve seen Hunter kill a dog just for stepping on his tail.” Copper said.

Togo pinned Hunter down and chewed on his neck as he growled. Copper ran over to the brawl shoved Togo off and jumped on him.

Hunter got up and bolted over to Togo. “I told you to stay off my turf!” Hunter yelled at Togo as he fought him.

Togo then thought that it would be a better idea to take this fight out of town so no other innocent dogs would get sucked into it. He ran to the outskirts of Nome as fast as he could, Hunter, Copper, and Jenna soon followed.

Hunter caught up to Togo and jumped on his back.

Jenna had seen enough, she ran towards Hunter and Togo, but Copper rammed into Jenna and pinned her.

“Get off me!” Jenna yelled to Copper. She bit his neck and clung to him. Copper thrashed and tried to get away, but Jenna just wouldn’t let go.

Hunter shoved Togo into Jenna. Jenna let go and fell to the cold ground with Togo on top of her. They got up and ran back the strays.

Togo grabbed the scruff of Copper’s neck and shook him vigorously. Copper wiggled himself free, stripping his flesh, and leaving fur inside Togo’s mouth.

Copper lunged at Togo and jumped on him. He had Togo pinned for a few seconds, but he was pushed off by Jenna.

Hunter shoved Copper out of his way and snarled at Togo. Togo and Hunter stood on their hind legs as they fought. Hunter grabbed Togo’s collar and pulled up on it as he pushed Togo’s head down, choking him.

Copper jumped on Jenna and bit her muzzle. Jenna whined and kicked him away.

Copper pushed Jenna into the shaky wooden fence and jumped on her and held her down while he bit her leg

Togo got up and lunged on Copper. He ran off and slammed Hunter into a garbage can.

All the fighting and yelping was heard by more dogs.

The dogs heard barking coming towards them. Copper looked and saw Balto, Star, Nikki, Kaltag, Shep, Dingo, and Blaze running to the outskirts of town as fast as they could.

“Yo Hunter, it’s Balto’s gang!” Copper yelled quickly.

Hunter looked up. “What?!” he yelled. He then saw Balto and his team.

Hunter ran towards Jenna and jumped, ready to bite, but luckily, Balto got there and rammed Hunter in mid air, and knocked him to the snow. Balto and Hunter began the most vicious fight the dogs have ever seen. The rest of Balto’s team arrived and attacked Hunter and Copper.

“I told you to stay away from Jenna!” Balto yelled as he was fighting with Hunter.

Kaltag rammed into Copper, who had Jenna pinned.

Jenna was hurt, she stepped aside, and watched the dogs fight, feeling totally helpless, knowing there was nothing she could do to stop it.

The strays were getting tired, they were injured, and were losing their will to fight.

Hunter jumped back on Balto and bit his muzzle and shook it back and forth.

Star slashed Copper’s face and Copper kicked Star against the wooden fence in the back of the alley.

Blaze was pinned by Hunter, He bit his muzzle and clung to it until Hunter got off.

Nikki was getting killed by Copper, but that soon changed that when he kicked Copper off him and chewed on his leg.

Hunter let out a loud whine, and all the dogs
