happening. Balto was being dog napped!

Rick threw Balto in the back of his dark green truck and drove out of town. Star and Steele chased after the truck, but it was too fast for them.

“We have to tell the others.” Steele ordered.

“Let’s go!” Star yelled.

The two dogs ran back to the old mill while the butcher ran down to the police station.

Steele stripped on his way to the mill, but Star kept going.

Star ran in, accidental banged into Togo, and started yelling frantically.

“AMANTOOKBALTOANDDROVEAWAY!” Star yelled, far too quickly for anyone to understand.

“What?” Togo asked.

“AMANTOOKBALTOANDDROVEAWAY!” Star yelled again.

“What are you talking about?” Togo asked again.

“AMANTOOKBALTOAND-” Star was cut off by Togo.

“Put spaces in you’re words.” Togo said slowly to Star.

“A man took Balto and drove away.” Star said calmly.

“WHAT?!” all the dogs yelled.

Steele arrived at the old mill as they all started yelling and gasping as Amber got up and ran to the alley.

She and Hunter changed the plan around a litter bit, she would have to wait until Balto was brought back. And since he was gone, it made it even easier for Hunter’s part. And of course Hunter needed his best friend Copper to help out.

That night, Jenna was on her way home from the old mill, and she walked by Hunter’s alley.

“Hunter stepped out into the entrance of the alley and looked at Jenna. “Jenna?” he said.

Jenna was a little nervous when she saw him. She took a step back. “What?” she asked.

“Are you alright?” he asked.

Jenna wondered why he was being so kind all of the sudden, it wasn’t something he usually did. In fact, it wasn’t something he EVER did. Jenna was puzzled, but she just went along with it.

“No. Balto’s gone.” she replied.

“Oh right.” Hunter said. “Well um...you wanna come in?” he offered. “I just got some fresh meat from the butcher’s.”

“Um...” Jenna began. She thought for a moment. “What could he be up to?” She thought to herself. What ever it was, it couldn’t have been that hard to get out of, and she was starving.

“I suppose.” she said.

Hunter smiled, then turned into his alley as Jenna followed.

They met up with Copper, who was sitting with a big scrap of stolen meat.

“Oh, hey Jenna.” he said.

“Hey.” Jenna replied.

Jenna and Hunter lied down across from each other, as Hunter sat in between them. They began to eat as they talked about all different things.

Steele was on his way home, and he noticed Jenna in the alley, eating with Hunter and Copper. What really confused him was, she seemed like she was having a good time. Steele couldn’t believe his eyes. It didn’t seem like Hunter or Copper meant any harm, but just to be sure, Steele sat down, hidden in the shadows, and watched them until Jenna left.

The next day, newspapers and magazines were talking about nothing but Balto. Article titles read things like “Balto dog napped!!!” or “Sled dog hero abducted!!!” and “Alaskan wonder missing!!!”

The whole world was frantic, they didn’t know what to do. There were reward posters all over the entire state of Alaska, and most of Canada!

Amber was completely crushed. She was in the outskirts of town, crying her eyes out for hours and hours, she figured that by now, there would be at least one clue as to where Balto would be. She didn’t think she could ever get through it. No one had seen her in a long time because she was never around the town. She knew that was plan was a good one, but she was beginning to think that they were never going to find Balto.

Hunter was watching Jenna in the boiler room. Copper was standing next to him, ready for the plan to begin.

“The plan is ready.” Hunter whispered.

Copper crouched down, ready to run.

But then, Jenna stepped out of the boiler room and looked at Rosie’s father, who was walking into the hospital with the doctor that had witnessed Balto’s kidnaping.

“Wait.” Hunter said to Copper.

Jenna ran back into the boiler room and through the passage that lead under the hospital. She had found the room that her owner was in with the doctor, and stood under the floor, waiting for them to continue their conversation. She knew that they were talking about Balto, from what she had heard so far.

“Change of plans, follow me.” Hunter said. He started towards the boiler room, and Copper followed.

They both went through the passage, and up to Jenna.

Jenna looked at the two dogs and gasped.

Hunter looked back at Copper. “Go make sure no one comes.” he said firmly.

“Ok.” Copper said. He dashed back through the passage, stood outside and pushed the door shut with his two front paws.

Hunter looked back at Jenna. He walked up in front of her and stood.

“What are you doing here?” Jenna asked.

“Jenna, Balto’s gone forever, there’s no way he can ever come back, and your puppies are all grown up. They don’t need your care anymore, and Balto’s not here to give you a new litter. And I know how much you want one. I heard you talking about it. ” Hunter said.

“No! Not with you! And Balto is coming back!” Jenna yelled. “They’ll find him!” she added.

“C’mon Jenna, think about it. We used to like each other when I first came here. Remember?” he said as he sat down next to her.

Jenna sat and spoke. “Well Hunter, you’ve changed. You got too into your career as a fighting dog, then your owner abandoned you, and ever since then, you’ve been a changed dog. I hate you.” Jenna replied.

Hunter knew that she was right, but he paid no attention to that. He continued talking. “What about that night in the alley? When we had dinner, didn’t that mean anything to you?” Hunter asked as he lied down in front of her.

“I don’t know.” Jenna replied. But it doesn’t matter. I love Balto, and no one else.” she added.

“Balto’s gone.” Hunter said, as he stood and moved in front of her. He inched is way closer to Jenna and rubbed his muzzle against hers as she thought for a moment.

“I know somewhere deep down you still don’t hate me.” he whispered.

Hunter moved his head away and looked at her.

Jenna noticed a scar on his muzzle. She remembered that she gave that to him when he tried to kill her pups. She realized that she could never forgive him for that.

Hunter stood up, stilling looking at her.

He moved closer, and nuzzled her neck.

Jenna was staring to get very irritated. She stood up and backed away.

“Think about it Jenna.” Hunter said.

“HUNTER!” yelled a familiar voice. Steele trotted through the passage with his head hung low, then raised his head as he approached Hunter and Jenna. Nikki, Kaltag, and Star ran up next to Steele and they all growled.

Hunter backed away from Jenna and faced towards the dogs. “What are you doing in here? And where’s Copper?” Hunter asked.

“Take a look for yourself.” Steele said.

Hunter ran out into the boiler room and looked at Copper looked like he had been viciously mauled. He lay there motionless.

The trio walked towards Jenna, but before they got to her, Hunter ran back up to them and barked. The dogs looked back at him and growled as they walked towards him.

Hunter lunged towards Star, a weakling, but Steele jumped in the way and he soon found himself in a brutal fight with a killer.

“Steele!” yelled Kaltag.

“He’ll never make it!” Nikki said.

The dogs could could do nothing but stand there and pant, and hope that Steele would be ok.

Steele kicked Hunter and started to canter back to the other dogs. Hunter ran after him as fast as he could. Right before Hunter was about to clamp his jaws onto Steele’s back left leg, Steele kicked him in the neck and turned towards him. Hunter fell back down and landed on his side and looked back up at the dogs. He got up, and sank his fangs into Steele’s shoulder. Steele yelped in pain as a stream of flood flooded down his leg. Steele thought for sure he wasn’t gonna make it. But he wouldn’t stop until it was over, and this fight wasn’t over yet! Steele clamped onto Hunter’s neck, and pulled on the skin. Hunter whined as he let go of Steele, and Steele pushed Hunter down to the ground, still clenched onto his neck. Hunter thrashed for a few seconds, and was able to kick Steele away. Steele fell to the ground, and just as Hunter was about to bite the scruff of his neck, SKaltag ran into him and knocked him over. Steele slowly got up, and stepped back as he looked at the injured grey Malamute.

Copper had gotten up, and he walked up to Hunter and helped him up. They both reluctantly walked back into town, and towards their alley.

Steele was beaten and exhausted, panting and panting.

“Steele! You did
