been shot, everyone’s crowding around the finish line.” she said.

“Yeah!” all the pups yelled. The dogs ran to the front of the finish line and waited.

The tan floppy eared husky with her puppies came and sat down next to Jenna.

“Hey Sage!” Jenna said excitedly.

“Hi Jenna!” Sage said.

Demon, Sage’s puppy jumped on Anela and licked her.

“Hey Demon!” she said. He got off and they sat next to each other.

Everyone was busy talking, but then a howl got their attention. Everyone looked in the direction where the teams were coming from. Balto rounded first, Then Togo came around, alined with Kaltag.

“Come on Balto, keep going!” Star encouraged.

Togo panted with his tongue handing out the side of his mouth as he ran as fast as he could.

Everyone cheered for their hero dog as he neared the finish line.

“Let’s go, Togo!” yelled Leonhard Sappala, Togo’s musher.

Then, something very unexpected happened, Balto stepped on a sharp rock that was in his path. He whined and fell to the ground as Togo fled past him. Everyone including the dogs gawked and gasped.

Balto got right up and continued running, with a large amount of pain in his right front paw. He was determined to win. He bolted as fast as he could. His team wanted to tell him that it was too fast, but they knew what they had to do. Balto whined at every step he took, his paw was in so much pain!

Everyone cheered as loud as they could as Balto won by a head!

A large, chubby, 6 foot 3" man with forest green baggy pants and a white shirt with black messy hair and a beard, sneered at Balto, but Balto didn’t see him. The man’s name was Rick Daniels, and he had a plan...a nasty plan.

Balto’s team was smiling and wagging their tails as they looked at the crowd on both sides of the sidelines. Every dog except Balto. He was laying down, licking his paw.

Hunter was watching, his jealousy of Balto had grown, he wished that he could have fame and glory like Balto did. It would definitely impress Jenna. But Hunter knew that he would never have the glory.

“Stay here.” Jenna said firmly to her pups. They frowned and looked at each other as Jenna ran to Balto. “Are you alright?” she asked nervously.

Balto stopped licking his paw and looked up at her.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I just need to rest for a while.” Balto said.

Gunnar, Leonhard, and the vet walked up to Balto and un harnessed him, and Jenna was forced to back away. They carried Balto to the vet building to get his paw checked out.

Gunnar, and Rosie’s parents waited in the waiting room, and a few minutes later, the vet came out with Balto on his leash. “He’ll be fine, it’s just a bruise. It was just some pain, nothing serious.” the vet explained.

“Thank you very much.” said Gunnar. He took Balto’s leash and walked him outside, along side Rosie’s parents.

Gunnar took the leash off Balto, and the wolfdog cantered off down the lane and trotted to show off to the once concerned, now happy crowd. Jenna ran up to him, and they nuzzled each other, then Jenna, Balto, and the entire team showed off to the crowd and walked to the side lines to be petted.

Steele was watching sadly from under the finish sign. It was then when he REALLY realized that he was never going to have the glory that he once had. But he wasn’t prepared to try to kill one of his best friends for it. He sighed and slowly walked away with his head and tail hung low.

But a certain grey Malamute was not watching sadly, he was sneering at Balto. He couldn’t stand how Balto took everything in his life for granted. Or so he thought. Balto never took anything for granted, not even Jenna.

A few minutes later, the tryouts for the mail dog team began. Dakota, Demon, Dodger, Shadow, Duke, and many other young dogs from other litters were at the starting line. Duchess, Kaltag, Sage, Steele, Balto, and Jenna were at the finish line.

“Ready to lose, wolfdog?” said Dodger, the bratty son of Steele.

Dakota perked his ears and growled at Dodger.

The pups were each shown a toy that was connected to a string. The toy was pulled back to the finish line, and the dogs were released, and chased the toy. Dakota was already in the lead, his legs carrying them as fast as they could scurry. But Dodger was right behind him, but Demon and a dog named Biji were closer. Dodger snapped at Dakota’s tail, but missed.

(Bee-jee)

Dakota swiped his tail in Dodger’s face. Dodger slowed down, but sped right back up again. He slashed Dakota’s hip, leaving scratch marks under his red fur, but no blood. Dakota yelped, but he kept running, he was determined to win. Dodger growled at the fact that none of his plans were working.

“Quit it Dodger!” Demon yelled. He kicked his brother in the face.

Dodger almost fell, but he managed to stay balanced enough to remain on his paws.

Several seconds later, Dakota crossed the finish line, and beat Biji by half his body, and Demon beat Biji by a head, and then came a female husky named Dusty. Then came Dodger and Shadow, then the rest of the dogs came in.

The crowd cheered for the dogs, but for Dakota especially. Balto was very proud. The mushers crowded around the dogs, and Gunnar picked up Dakota.

“This one’s a real winner. Did you see how he moved his tail right before Dodger was about to bite it? And how he was scratched and kept right on going? That’s the spirit of a true leader.” Gunnar said. The rest of the mushers agreed.

“I’m surprised at how fast he went.” said one of the mushers.

“Yeah that son of Steele’s is a fast one.” said one of the mushers, referring to Demon. “We need a dog like him on the team.” he added.

“This son of Balto’s is even tougher.” said Gunnar.

The pups were soon going to begin their training for their position on the team. Dakota and Demon were the two lead dogs, and Biji and Dusty were behind them, and Dodger and Shadow were the two wheel dogs.

Dusty was a grey and white female husky, Biji was a golden tan Chinook with black floppy ears and black fur around his nose, Dodger was black with a white chest, ears, and paws, and Shadow was all dark tan with tan tips on his ears and paws.

“I’m going to go get Rosie, she’d want to hear the news!” Jenna said to Balto. Jenna licked Balto’s nose and ran off into the crowd to find her girl.

Amber , the beautiful English Setter was watching close by, and she crept out from behind the sidelines and ran up to Balto. “Congratulations Balto! You must be very proud.” she said.

“Oh, thanks Amber!” Balto replied excitedly.

“I knew you could do it, even with that injured paw, you’re the best sled dog around.” she complemented.

“Thanks.” Balto said as he smiled and sat down.

Amber sat down closely in front of him. She was about to say something, but she saw Jenna standing about 17 yards away out of the corner of her eye. Amber got an idea. She licked Balto’s nose and muzzle. Balto laughed and shook his head. Amber nuzzled him, then looked at him and smiled and put her ears back. Balto and Amber had become very close friends, so he allowed her to be somewhat affectionate with him.

Jenna put her ears back and frowned. She had an angry, yet sad look on her face and turned and walked away.

A few minutes later, Amber was walking to the alley to talk to Hunter and Copper.

She walked in and flinched when an Eskimo Dog jumped down in front of her and growled viciously with his head lowered. “Who are you?” Copper asked.

“I’m Amber, I moved here not too long ago. I want to talk to Hunter, I have a plan that I think he will be very interested in.” Amber said with a sly smile.

“How do you know Hunter?” Copper asked.

“I met him a few days ago.” Amber replied.

Copper stopped growling and lifted his head. “Hunter, it’s Amber, she’s got a plan.” Copper said. Copper jumped up onto a garbage can and lied down, facing Amber.

Hunter walked towards her, and stopped when he was still standing in the shadow. “What is it?” Hunter asked.

“I know how we can get you to be Jenna’s mate, and me to be Balto’s mate. They’re broken up, and we both win.” Amber began.

Hunter walked into the light and sat down in front of Amber. “Tell me.” he said with an evil grin.

Amber made the same grin and explained everything to Hunter.

Meanwhile, Star was sitting down near the boiler room and then Steele walked up next to him. “Hey Star.” he said.

“Oh, hi Steele.” Star smiled.

The two talked as Balto ran to catch up with them. When Balto reached the butchers, Rick Daniels stepped out of the butcher’s and looked down at the hero.

Balto looked up and gasped at the huge man as the doctor stepped out of the hospital.

“Your coming with me!” The man said with a deep yet sort of raspy voice. He picked up the wolfdog. Balto yelped and struggled in the mans tight grip.

Steele was talking to Star, and they both looked back and saw exactly what was happening. Balto was
