New Hero in Town

After «The Next Epidemic»

A Shepard/Malamute lead dog named Bandit and his team come into town with their sick team mate. They must stay in town for a few days while their team member is at the vet. Bandit tries to seduce Jenna, and turns her against Balto. Balto is caught attacking Bandit and must run away to be kept from being put to sleep, and pals up with his white wolf friend, Kemo. Jenna is miserable and goes to look for him. Dixie, Steele, Togo, Nikki, Kaltag, Star, Blaze, and Sage end up going to look for her as well. What dangers will they face in the wild? This is the toughest situation the dogs have ever faced! Will they make it home in one piece? When they finally do, Balto is able to prove to the town that he’s not a bad dog, he’s still the hero that he always was.

Balto was walking down the empty and quiet street in the middle of Nome, looking for something to do. He decided to go to the Old Mill to see if there was anyone there. He walked inside and saw Steele, Steele’s team, Togo, Nikki, Star, Jenna, Sage, Duchess, Kaltag, Dixie, Sylvie, the rest of his team, and all three litters of puppies! They belonged to Steele and Jenna’s best friend Sage, Kaltag and Jenna’s sister Duchess, and Balto and Jenna

 

«Hey! It’s Balto!» yelled Togo.

 

Jenna ran up and nuzzled him as everyone cheered. Balto had recently saved yet another town, and was an even bigger hero.

 

«Balto, where have you been? Didn’t you know that everyone was in here?» Jenna asked.

 

«I had no idea.» Balto said with a puzzled face.

 

Balto and Jenna walked back to the rest of the group and lied down next to each other.

 

«So why is everyone in here?» Balto asked.

 

But before anyone could answer, they heard barking coming from outside.

 

Balto perked his ears and walked to the door.

 

He saw a dog team running into town with one of the dogs on the sled.

 

«It’s a dog team.» Balto said.

 

All the dogs got up and ran towards the team. The dogs found the team standing in front of the vet building while their musher was holding a dog and talking to the vet.

 

«Who are they?» Dixie asked as she tilted her head.

 

«I don’t know, but the lead dog is pretty hot.» Sylvie said with a smile.

 

«Sure is!» Dixie agreed.

 

Jenna rolled her eyes. «Yeah, all the lead dogs are hot to you.» she said.

 

The musher walked inside the vet’s office, and the dogs approached the team. Balto stood at the front of the group. They walked up next to the lead dog, who was slightly bigger than Balto, but smaller than Steele.

 

He was a Shepard/Malamute mix. His fur was thick like a malamute’s, he had the colors of a Shepard (black on top, brown on the bottom), his tail was bushy and curled, his eye’s were brown, and he was a little smaller and less muscular than Steele.

 

The group of dogs walked up to the team.

 

«Um...who are you?» Balto asked.

 

The lead dog turned his head towards Balto as he perked his ears. He noticed that Balto was wearing the golden collar. A brown belt with glistening golden ovals.

 

«Hey! Your Balto aren’t you?» the dog asked as he examined the hero.

 

«Um...yeah, how do you know me?» Balto asked, puzzled.

 

«Your all over the news, You saved this entire town from diphtheria. I hear you saved another town, and had an encounter with some wolves.» the dog said.

 

«Oh. Well...who are you?» Balto asked again.

 

«Name’s Bandit.» The dog said.

 

Kaltag stepped up. «Why are you here?» Kaltag asked.

 

«Our wheel dog is sick, we don’t know what’s wrong with him.» Bandit said.

 

Steele stepped up. «How long will you be here?» Steele asked.

 

Bandit looked at the slightly bigger dog. «I don’t know.» Bandit answered quietly.

 

Jenna walked up to him. «Where are you supposed to be going?» Jenna asked.

 

It was love at first sight when Bandit laid his big brown eyes on Jenna. He smiled and Spoke. «It’s for study. I’m the best and fasted lead dog in my town, and they knew they could count on me to get this trip done as quick as possible. My Musher is traveling around, gathering information on wild animals.» Bandit explained. «I’m the 3 time winner, the best and most valuable dog in my town.» he added, hoping it would impress Jenna.

 

Jenna raised her eyebrows and smiled. Bandit put one ear back and smiled.

 

«Oooh» Steele said as he moved his shoulders in a backwards circular motion, cracking them. «Well it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.» Steele said. He couldn’t stand seeing other dogs brag about themselves, Steele was only ok with himself doing the bragging.

 

Balto knew instantly that Bandit liked Jenna, and he wasn’t very surprised either, many dogs in the town have had their eye on Jenna at one time or another. Balto decided to get Jenna away from Bandit as soon as possible, he hated it when other dogs flirted with her.

 

«Jenna, it’s time for you to go eat, and Rosie must be worried about you. Go to your house, and meet up with us in the team house when your done.» Balto instructed.

 

«Alright.» Jenna said. She glanced at Bandit and walked off to her house, which was only a few doors down.

 

«Jenna..what a beautiful name.» Bandit thought.

 

«Alright everyone, back to the team house.» Balto said.

 

The dogs started back to their own team house with Balto walking behind them.

 

The musher walked out of the vet empty handed. «Looks like we’re gonna be here for a while.» he said to the team.

He looked up and noticed the group of dogs walking away from the team.

 

The musher knelt down next to Bandit and petted his head. «Looks like you’ve made a lot of friends already.» he said as he rubbed Bandit’s head. The musher got up and walked back to the sled.

 

«Heh heh heh.» Bandit chuckled. «This town will be eating out of my paw in to time.» Bandit whispered to himself. «And so will that pretty dog, Jenna. She’ll be mine!» he added.

 

Balto happened to be peeking around the corner of a house and heard Bandit. He widened his eyes and gasped. He walked out from behind the wall and looked at Bandit. Just then, Jenna showed up, standing right next to Balto, with their litter of puppies, Anela, Diego, Nellie, Dakota, Kiara, and Nanook, who were 8 weeks old now. Balto was glad to see them so he can show Bandit that Jenna was already his mate.

 

Bandit perked his ears as he saw Balto, Jenna, and the pups. He noticed that one of them looked like a wolf, and the rest looked somewhat like Jenna. He then figured that they just might belong to Balto and Jenna. Bandit was absolutely devastated.

 

Balto and Jenna had a litter of 6 puppies. There were 3 girls named Anela (ah-nay-la) who had lighter fur than Balto, but most of her legs were light brown, and she had light brown tips on her ears. Nellie, who was very close with Anela, looked like Jenna, but she had a red stripe down to her muzzle, and most of the fur on his legs were red. Kiara looked just like Jenna, but most of her tail was cream And they had 3 boys named Nanook, who looked like Jenna, but with a red face and cream muzzle, and Dakota, who looked like Jenna, but had white tips on his ears, and Diego, who looked like Jenna.

 

«Balto, would you like to eat with us today?» Jenna asked.

 

«Yeah dad, come eat with us!» Anela said excitedly.

 

Dakota, Anela’s brother, pounced on her, causing her to collapse on her stomach. «Yeah! C’mon!» he yelled.

 

Balto smiled at the pups and looked at Jenna. «Sure Jenna.» he said. Balto licked her eye and muzzle a few times. Jenna always loved it when he did that to her.

 

Bandit widened his eyes and snorted.

 

«Hey, get off me!» Anela said angrily as she pushed herself up.

Dakota slid off, stood up and shook the snow off his fur. «Quit whining Anela!» Dakota snapped.

 

«Don’t you yell at me!» Anela pounced on Dakota and had him pinned.

 

«Hey, get off!» Dakota yelled, All the rest of the puppies joined in and started pushing and yelling and barking at each other.

 

«Nanook! Get off me!» Kiara yelled.

 

«You’re so easy to pin!» Nanook barked a few times and was knocked off by Dakota.

 

Dakota had Nanook pinned, he howled with excitement, then jumped off Nanook and landed on Nellie who was running by. He stood on her back as she kept running for a few seconds until she collapsed. Dakota was somewhat like the leader of the gang of pups, so he enjoyed showing off most of the time.

 

«Dakota! Leave me alone!» Nellie yelled.

 

Diego clamped Dakota’s tail in his mouth and swung him away from Nellie. Dakota got up and jumped on Diego, then immediately hopped off and landed gracefully on the ground.

 

Anela rammed into Dakota and knocked him down on his side. Dakota got up and Anela jumped on his back as he
