had usually heard the voice in the costume room where she worked in, but she didn't expect the voice to be here.

The voice of the Angel was something that perplexed her. She remembered that it first came to her when she first came to the Canine and at first she didn't believe it. She thought she was just hearing things, but after she heard the voice sing, it was far too beautiful to be real. It didn't sound natural, it almost sounded like a real Angel had come down from the heavens to come to her aid, just as her Father had promised.

The only problem was, she never saw him, but this didn't mind her, as she could still hear him, and feel him in her heart.

"Yes, it is I," The voice answered in a low whisper, "I am very proud of you, Jenna. You sang like an Angel tonight. You've outshined any opera singer that there ever was, in fact, the Angel wept tonight."

Jenna blushed slightly, "Thank you, I couldn't believe it.. I couldn't have done it without you."

"No, you did it yourself. I've told you, that you just have to feel the music inside of you, and you will sing like an angel…and…well…I have a confession to make…." The voice sounded almost reluctant, like it was somewhat nervous.

   "What is it?" Jenna asked.

   "I love you…"

Suddenly, the door opened, making Jenna turn her head to see Steele standing in the doorway, clearly angry. Jenna wasn't sure why he was there, but she assumed that he was at the performance, and she hadn't seen him. She knew that Steele would eventually come to look for her, but not like this.

"Where is he?" Steele growled, "Where are you hiding him?" He started running about the room, trying to see if anyone was hiding in the room. The malamute, after having been chewed out by his brother for leaving the estate without telling him, had been forbidden from going to the Canine, but he did so anyway, and he had managed to find the husky's dressing room in order to see if she got the gift he had sent her (which was mostly an apology) but upon hearing Jenna speak with a voice, he became confused.

Steele hadn't ever thought to notice Jenna's strange behavior whenever he was around, and at first he thought she might just be a bit crazy and odd, but what if…what if this Angel of Music really wasn't an Angel? What if it was another dog? What if Jenna had pretended to forget about Steele and their friendship just so she could be with this other dog? Steele tried to control himself, but he couldn't keep his jealous emotions in check, and he burst open the door, his jealousy and anger suddenly unleashed.

"Jenna!" He cried, marching angrily into the dressing room. "I can't believe it!"

   "Steele wha-,"

"Where is he?" He went over to her dresser, "Is he in here?"

"Steele," She exclaimed, "How dare you come into my room without knocking. What's your problem?"

"Oh, my problem," He cried, "What do you mean my problem? You've been keeping secrets from me!"

"Steele, please, calm down. What is wrong with you?"

The malamute tried to calm himself, but he wasn't able to, "You…you were talking with someone, weren't you?"

"What? What are you talking about, there's no one here."

"Don't play dumb with me, Jenna!" He growled, "You've been speaking with another dog behind my back, aren't you?"

"Steele, I…wait, what did you hear?"

"The voice said it loved you. I heard what it said."

Jenna then became happy, "Oh, so you can hear him."

"What? Hear him?" He inquired confusingly. "Hear who?"

"The Angel of Music, of course. Steele, there is no other dog here; it's just the Angel of Music. I didn't think you'd believe in him, but now see that you can hear him.

Steele opened his jaw to answer, but wasn't sure what to say. He then inwardly groaned, as this conversation about Angels of Music was rather ridiculous.

"What?" He asked, confused, "This again? Jenna, I told you this Angel isn't real?"

"If he's not real, then how come you can hear him?"

"Maybe someone is messing with you, Jenna." He chuckled, "I mean, seriously, do you honestly think that this Angel is real?"

Jenna sighed, "Steele, I haven't been seeing anyone. I was speaking with my Angel of Music, and he is my teacher. He's been helping me train for the past few months, and he told me that my Father is very proud of me." She then hopped off the chair angrily, "So how dare you accuse me of seeing another dog! I haven't done anything wrong. I don't know what your deal is, but now I see the only problem in our relationship is you, Steele." She then turned away from the malamute, who really wasn't about to drop this argument, despite what the two had discussed a few hours prior to this event.

"Jenna-," Steele began, but Jenna cut him off.

   "Steele, please leave,"

"Oh, I don't understand you, Jenna. You've been acting so weirdly lately, and I think you've been letting these fairytales and talk about Angels and singing get into your head? Don't you understand that's all in the past now? Why don't you get rid of all that and look at the real picture here, like me?"

"So, is that all you care about, is yourself? Is that all the great Steele de Chagny wants? It seems to me that you're love only stems from that fact that you just want me, just like every other female out there. I thought you truly cared about our friendship?"

   "I do, but I can't when you're acting like-,"

"You have no right to talk of stuff like this. You have no right to spy on me and follow me as you've been doing lately. No one is here with me but my Angel, so leave now."

Steele then started laughing, almost mockingly, "Jenna, you've gone crazy! I can't believe you think the Angel is real. It's probably just some dog, making a fool out of you."

"The only one who's being a fool is you, Steele, now please leave."

   "Jenna, I'm not done talking,"

"Yes, you are, now get out."

"I'm not done talk-," Jenna then grabbed whatever was nearest to her (which happened to be a small bottle of perfume) and hurled it straight at the malamute.

"Get out!" She cried, "Stop spying on me, and get out!" Steele ducked his head, as the perfume bottle smashed into a million pieces against the wall. Frustrated with their heated conversation, the malamute stormed over to the door, and turned to the husky.

"This isn't over, Jenna…" He growled, and the malamute then slammed the door as hard as he could, which almost made the walls shake.

Jenna was almost shaking with anger, as this stupid argument completely ruined her night. She sank to the floor, and put her head in her paws, not exactly feeling cheerful.

"Do not worry about him, Jenna…" The voice returned, this time in a more comforting tone, "He does not understand you like I do…he will never understand."

"But what am I to do about him, Angel?" She answered back, sighing heavily, "He won't stop until we're together, but he's so…clingy. Just the thought of me and him…together…" She then shuddered with the thought of them being in bed together entered her mind. She shook her head. "Well, we could still be friends, but he's so difficult to be around, and he-,"

"Jenna, don't think about him…just think about how much you've made me proud, and your Father proud."

"Your right, I shouldn't be upset. Thanks for cheering me up Angel, and I was going to ask you…you said something about you loving me?"

"What I was implying was what I said to you when you asked me why you can't see me."

"What do you mean?" Suddenly, the lights in her room began to flicker on and off, and with a flash; they turned themselves off, the room going dark.

"A-Angel, what's going on?" Jenna asked nervously.

"Do not be afraid, Jenna," The voice suddenly became louder, "You have been an incredible student, and it's time for you to see me, and my glory…"

"But, where are you?" Jenna then saw some kind of glow that was coming from the large mirror at the back of the room, and saw smoke come out of the sides of the mirror.

"Look into the mirror, Jenna…" The voice ordered, and as Jenna looked at the mirror on the wall, and suddenly, a pair of yellow eyes appeared.

"I am your Angel…come to me …come to

Thanks, it's no problem at all. I'm still working on the rest of the story, just been a while since i've been on here.

Ah yes, the Inspector is a character that I've created solely for this story, and perhaps I might continue to use him in some other stories (if not with animals than with humans, as creating detective characters is always fun.)

Also, his progression from naive detective to Inspector of Police is based off of Gaston Leroux's short story, The Case of the Yellow Room, just a little fun reference.

Quite gripping. You did the boxkeeper's description of her encounter very well.

Back after a long hiatus.

Page 13 (end of Chapter 3): Uh-huh; that's the Steele I remember, alright.

The detective character, Jean-Claude, intrigues - particularly as I've recently begun work on a couple of police-related stories.

My apologies for taking so long to get back to this.

I totally know what you mean. Jenna and Steele just seem like a very unlikely couple. It's like Nala and Scar in the Lion King. You just don't do it!
But I can assure you, there will be some good Jenna and Balto scenes in this as well. ;)

Yeah, I've noticed that you're into mostly anthro Balto fanfics, and I just wanted to clear up that yes, they, and everyone else in the story, is a feral animal, not an anthro one (I said that even though they're anthropomorphic, I was mostly referring to the definition, not necessarily stating that they were anthro characters.)

I don't know, I just felt it was sort of appropriate. Somebody actually commented on that as some point, and was wondering as to why I did that. I mostly wanted to keep them in their original forms since everyone is mostly familiar with it, and it's also reminiscent with movies such as All Dogs Go To Heaven, where some scenes have characters doing what they do in my story (wearing clothing, holding objects, etc.) Yes, I know, dogs don't wear clothes, but I think it's a fun little addition, just for the sake of this fan fic.

Also, that's kind of the whole point of this part. Jenna and Steele haven't met in like 13 years or so (well, just for this story anyway) so it would make sense for her not to recognize him.

Just chiming in here, since you and JC kind of lead into it; the first project on our collab list will not be anthro - just in case anyone was concerned about that.

Also, on to Page 12. Not bad, especially for a Jenna/Steele scene (which I usually detest, so getting a "not bad" out of me for one is pretty big). The description of them moving on all fours kind of threw me because when you describe them in clothes and so on my mind naturally drifts to a more "anthro" version of them. Also, I was kind of surprised at how long it took Jenna to connect the dots. Other than that, it's good.

I'm glad that you've enjoyed it. To tell you the truth, I'm also a purist for the original forms of the characters. And even though I stated that in the introduction, they are anthropomorphic, I was referring to that they have the same characteristics of the Balto film, they just have more human like qualities to them, such as wearing clothes and such. Of course anyone can interpret it in their own way, I hint in some of the chapters that they are still in their original feral forms.

Also, don't feel bad if you're not analyzing every aspect of the story. I'll take anything that I can get when it comes to comments or critiques. As long as someone enjoys it, it's good enough for me! :)

Yeah, it's a long one, since I wrote it in chapters, but I decided to just put the whole thing here. Might as well, but I didn't think it'd be as long as I originally thought.

Oh, I don't consider myself to be that advanced. I've just had years of experience, what with English always being my favorite subject in school. Always has. I may not write like the greats, but I know exactly what to put down, in order to give the reader something cool and interesting to read. And I'm glad you've enjoyed thus far! :)

O' Cap'n My Cap'n!
Okay, so, I have been pouring gradually through this, and I must admit, I am enjoying it! You have a keen writing style, which is pretty advanced (considering the relative writing skills of the average fan writer). A few thoughts:

1. I will continue to read the whole thing but, given that I have completed at least a few chapters, I feel that I have gotten the entire gist of this, enough to comment on it...

2. As I mentioned to DT with his recent submission, I am a purist when it comes to the characters. While I love seeing them in good and effective crossovers, I really am not a fan of anthro concepts. Now, that being said, you HAVE crafted an entertaining and engaging story line here, and it would be untrue to suggest that I am not enjoying it!

3. I guess the only anthro setting I ever have enjoyed (and continue to) is that created by Disney for the Robin Hood movie. For me, that worked. And I guess I have seen it that was because I viewed it years ago as a kid. It's another great crossover. And I SUSPECT that the "Zootopia" film will be likewise for me...I even have already made up my mind that it could work as a modern-day future of the Disney Robin Hood setting. Now that I can get behind! Not taking anything away from what you've crafted here of course.

4. While I am not a fan of the Phantom of the Opera epic (though I know the basics of the story, and went to read a full outline of it to get myself prepped for this read), I know it is a great work of literature, and I totally see why you chose it. Especially given the fact that you are a fan of that story.

5. I'm not much of a "Monday-morning quarterback", and I personally don't like to minutely analyze chapter and verse in comments. So you won't see that much from me (and I hope I'm not letting you down in that regard). The size of this work makes it very intimidating to try and flip back through and locate something to analyze in comments. I hope you don't mind!

All that aside, you really have crafted a very good story here so far, and I am impressed! It is a LOOOONG one (lol), perhaps the longest I've seen on Animation Source (as far as I can recall anyway), but I understand why it is as long as it is.

Best of luck with Part 2!

UPDATE: The 2nd part of this story is still being worked on, however, for those of you who don't wish to wait for the entire thing to be posted here, this story is also uploaded and updated on my DeviantArt account: HydeCorner, and on my Fanfiction account: Dante Frost.
Once I'm finished with the 2nd part, I will upload the entire thing here. Until then, feel free to follow along either my DeviantArt account, or on my Fanfiction account.

Also, for future stories, I am currently working with Dragon Tamer (Author of the Toby series and Balto's Treasure Island) or Omnitrix 12 on Fanfiction.net for a collab story. Be on the look out for that in the near future.

Peace!
