It was just like any other night. Nome lit up the night with the nightlights of the street, or just people up late. At the Nome Cinema, every seat within was packed; the up-at-nightiers were glued to the Halloween terror on-screen just to see more chills with Michael Myers, Jason, the Candyman, Charles Lee Ray (aka Chucky), Stephen King, Leatherface, Hannibal Lecter, and other legendary horrors.
Outside, the ticket stand stood vacant, and the doors leading into were undisturbed. But then a distant sound started; it then rose into a spine-chilling scream. Before you can ask what is going on, Balto burst through the doors in fear, all out of air as he halted onto the sidewalk panting. Out followed were Jenna, Kodiak, Boris, and the black cat with the white paw, Scourge. Balto was gaining the color on his face as Jenna walked to his side.
Jenna: Oh dear. Balto, what happened? You looked like you saw a ghost.
Boris: It’s just the movie, Child's Play. And who could blame him, Chucky is scary.
Balto: Please don’t mention that creepy doll’s name.
Kodiak: Dad, that’s ridiculous. It’s just a doll. And besides you’ve seen worse.
Scourge: I don’t think he’ll get the message, no offense.
Kodiak: My own Dad is scared of dolls. I hope nobody knows about this.
Jenna: Don’t talk about your father that way. Everyone has their own kind of fear. It might be preposterous, but it’s just a natural thing.
Boris: Hey, I’m scared of heights. And to this day, I’m trying to find out how the hell I got here from Russia.
Balto: I’m not scared of dolls, Kodi, just not comfortable with this doll. I can’t go back there.
Jenna: That’s alright we can go another time.
Kodiak: What!?
Balto: Once we get home, I hope The Sound of Music would help erase of all this.
Scourge: Oh well. Least I could watch an entire movie than nothin’.
Kodiak: No, you guys cannot do that. That’s not what I want to see tonight.
Balto: Okay, fine, Mr. King of Halloween what did you want to see tonight?
Kodiak: Instead of singing children, puppets, and nuns, how about mummies, or a man-eating plant. At least a zombie or two!
Balto: Nah, I’ve already had enough blood chills tonight. I rather watch something I like. Or maybe something we both can agree to.
Scourge: Like a scary musical!
Balto: But then, those "Phantom of the Opera" stuff are not your type, so sorry Kodi. And besides, where can you find a bunch of singing zombies anyway? No song like that exists.
Balto then leaves out into the night. Jenna and Boris followed. Kodiak glanced to Scourge.
Kodiak: Hmm, a scary musical. Not bad.
He then talked under his breath. Kodiak: And just to know, Dad, you’re wrong: I think I just know one song…
Scourge was listening. Scourge: Like what? Then his face then grew to a smile. Scourge: Ohhh, that one?
Kodiak: Yep, Scourge. That one. And I just know who’s going to star in it too…
Everything cuts to black.
Balto: Okay, now what is going on?
The music begins. Kodiak tapped to the rhythm with his paws and moves his head. Balto, Jenna, and Boris stared at him with questioning glances. Somehow, Scourge grabbed a guitar and pulled a few strings into the beat for only a few notes. He then throws the guitar out of sight just as Kodi began to sing.
Kodiak: It’s close to midnight,
Something’s evil lurking in the dark…
Balto begins to walk away with the family and friend(s) tailing after. Balto: I’m calling a taxi.
Kodi danced around his father and chuckled. Kodiak: Heh, heh. I’ve got rhythm, Dad.
And when the moon rise,
Its looming light will almost stop your heart…
They passed by a bunch of rats on a barrel.
The Rats, Scourge & Kodiak: You close your eyes…
Kodiak: …and claim that’s just your imagination.
Balto: Will you make him stop?!
A flock of ravens flew above.
The Ravens, Scourge & Kodiak: Nasty surprise…
Kodiak: …you hold your breath and what for it to pass…
Balto: Don’t be an ass…
Boris: Right, boss.
Jenna: Balto.
Balto: What?
Kodiak: If you like that, you should hear my Tito.
Balto: Kodiak, we’ve talked about this before. Just stop with the spontaneous musical outbursts…
Kodiak: Ha, ha, ha, haaa!
The group passed a cemetery but Scourge stops and begins to narrate.
Scourge: Darkness falls across the land,
The midnight hour is close at hand…
As he narrates, inside the cemetery, many corpses began to crawl out of the ground [Aleu, Dingo, Muk & Luk, Mel, Dipsy, Steele, Ralph, Kirby, Dusty, Stella, Kiona, Dakota, etc.]
…creatures crawl in search of blood,
To terrorize your neighborhood.
The zombies raided the streets, all with one single goal on every mind: satisfying their own hungers for live flesh.
And whosoever shall be found,
Without the soul for getting down,
Must stand and face the hounds of hell,
And rot inside a corpse’s shell.
The foulest stench is in the air,
The funk of forty thousand years,
And grisly ghouls from every tomb,
Are closing in to seal your doom.
Though you’ll fight to stay alive,
Your body starts to shiver,
For no mere mortal can resist,
The evil of… the THRILLER!
As Balto and the gang continued walking, they ceased in their tracks as they first saw the coming zombies.
Boris: What the…?
Jenna: Oh My God!
Scourge: Hey, what’s going on here? Wait a second, is that Michael Jackson?
Michael Jackson was part of the undead alright. Michael: He-he!
Scourge: Wait! Is Michael dead?
Kodiak: He's been dead.
Scourge: Son of a... and no one told me?!
Balto: What! His death has been on the news, it was one of the most darkest days ever. How come you never knew about it?
Scourge: Well if you're a stray and leader of once a bloodthirsty clan, then you'd have no time for fun at all.
Jenna: Can you guys shut up? We're about to be torn apart!
Balto & Scourge: Okay.
The zombies commenced to isolate the group by circling them. All bared their bloodthirsty fangs dripping with drool and spittle. They were surrounded.
Now Kodi was frightened. Kodiak: Oh man, oh man. I should’ve stayed home today!
Balto: Me too… What if we can find a gap, maybe we can… He then turned to his friends, but his face went a deathly pale.
Balto: Oh My God, Jenna!
Somehow Jenna became a zombie, but that’s not all.
Balto: Boris, Scourge… Kodi!!!!!" They all are now zombies… and he, Balto himself, is the only mortal one.
But instead of instantly diving for meaty lunch, they began to dance. But an unnatural force as affected Balto; he looked down to his paws and they were moving to the beat.
Balto: I’m dancing?! Wait, stop this! Help!
Unable to control his body he joined the dancing horde. Kodiak and Scourge led the dancing in front and the singing began.
Kodiak: You’re trapped in THRILLER! Here, tonight.
Scourge: Well, you may think it’s wrong…
Zombies: …but in your heart, you know it’s right…
Kodiak: …to love the THRILLER!
Michael: Whoo-hoo!
Scourge: You may fight, but you’ll dance on through the night.
Kodiak: Nothing but Thriller!
Scourge: Thriller!
Both: THRILLER!
Scourge: Through the night! Cause we can scare you good…
Kodiak: …like any wolf would ever dare try.
Ralph: THRILLER! Woof!
Scourge: And though you might…
Kodiak: …try running for your life--
Scourge: --you’re stuck in…
Kodiak: Thriller!
Kiona: Chiller!
Steele: Killer!
Dingo: AROOOOOOOOO!
Kodiak: What delight!
Michael: He-heeeeeee!
Then like magic, the unknown force dropped from Balto’s body.
Balto: Yes! I’m free!
He pranced away… into a tall metal fence. Balto was about to turn back to jump over, but saw that the zombies were snapped from the dancing trance and now merging down on him. Now there’s not enough space for his jump over the fence; that was his only escape attempt. He could only watch the undead neared closer.
Balto: Come on, stop acting alright; you got me. Jenna, Boris, Scourge…
They were not changing back. Kodi was there to get Balto first and placed his paws on his father’s chest.
Balto: Kodi, it’s me your Dad. Kodi…Kodi…?
But Zombie Kodiak only smiled.
Kodiak: It’s Thriller time…
Balto can only let out a bloodcurling scream…
Kodiak: Alright let’s get this party started!
Balto broke out from his slumber. His fur was hot and sweaty. Balto then looked around; he was back in the movie theater—and so did everybody else. Everything was normal. It was only a dream.
Balto: W-Wha…? What happened? Is it over?
Boris: Over?!
Jenna: Honey, you slept through the previews.
Kodiak: Yeah, so in the next ninety minutes, you’ll be looking at killers, voodoo, and dolls.
Scourge: Olé!
Balto looked towards at the huge screen; it was showing the opening scene from Child’s Play. His ears descended and he heaved a big sigh.
