Part 1: Balto’s children

Balto and Jenna’s first litter:

“Kodi, you know it breaks my heart when you start tearing up. You can tell me what’s going on; I won’t tell anyone else.”

Gender: Female

Personality and Background:

     Saba has a very gentle and calm personality. Her siblings always come to her when they’re upset about something, largely because she has this ability to calm those around her. As far as her family is concerned, they have never seen Saba full-on angry.

     Saba is generally nice to everyone. The one big exception is her father’s rival, Steele. Whenever she even sees Steele, Saba just walks away or stares with an irritated look on her face. Saba dislikes Steele because he was more willing to save his own reputation than help her father save Nome. Moreover, Steele has picked on Saba several times, not to mention her other siblings. Joseph personally thinks that Steele was the one who attacked Saba in the aforementioned incident. While Saba doesn’t like Steele, she doesn’t blame him for it, and she often tells Joseph to drop the subject whenever it comes up.

     An interesting thing to note is that Saba is particularly close to her brother, Joseph. At a young age, Joseph risked his life to save Saba, almost at the cost of his own. Ever since, Saba always helps out Joseph, and vice versa. What’s more, Saba has managed to learn defensive abilities from her brother. Generally, though, Saba opts for more peaceful methods.

Appearance: Saba looks very similar to Jenna when the latter was younger, and has blue eyes. (For reference use pictures of Jenna from Balto 1).

-Dingo

“Have you ever wondered what’s beyond the sky? The sky is beautiful and all, but I know there has to be something past it…something greater…”

Gender: Male

Personality and Background:

     Dingo’s siblings often refer to him as the quietest member of the family. He does talk, but generally keeps to himself. Unfortunately, this has caused many dogs to believe he’s in a state of constant depression. This is hardly the case. His family knows him for having a surprisingly good sense of humor, and for usually being in a good mood.

     So why is Dingo so quiet? One other thing his family and friends know about him is his vivid imagination and poetic vision of the world around him. Often times he is found in an open field staring at the sky, his mind filled with thoughts and ideas. So he isn’t quiet because he is depressed and shy; he is quiet because he has an inquisitive mind, which often will occupy his full attention.

Appearance: Dingo has a slimmer build than Kodi, and lacks the pronounced bridge on the nose. What’s more he has developed an unusual but completely harmless physical trait in which his left ear is floppy. (Picture Kodi but with a skinnier build, and again the lack of a nose bridge). Dingo has brown eyes.

“C’mon Dingo, you just gonna sit there and stare into the forest, or do you want to see for certain what’s in there?!”

Gender: Female

Personality and Background:

     Laura has a very adventurous spirit, and is very energetic. This has unfortunately resulted in a tendency to be impatient. However, her impatience doesn’t manifest itself in an extremely unbearable form. Still, her friends and family often tell her to calm down when she is excited. Her impatience usually shows itself as an “I can’t wait, this is gonna be so cool” demeanor. Her energy has a use, however. She has recently become a member of Kodi’s sled dog team. She often looks up her brother and her father as inspiration. While she is close to all her siblings, Laura is particularly close to Kodi.

Appearance: Laura was the puppy with a red bridge down her nose. She has a slightly heavier build than Saba, but she isn’t so heavily built as to look masculine. If anything, it’s that Saba has a very light build, not that Laura has a heavy build. She has blue eyes.

-Joseph

“Listen to me: You are going to leave my sister alone. If you don’t, you’re going to find yourself in a crate that’s on its way to Anchorage, you understand me?”

Gender: Male

Personality and Background:

     Joseph is often regarded as the toughest among his siblings. If anyone he cares about is harmed, he will defend them, often by force. This defensive reaction is the result of an incident when he was younger in which Saba was attacked by a larger dog. Before that, Joseph was regarded as being the most timid and shy. Joseph couldn’t stand watching his sister get beaten, however, and attacked the larger dog. Joseph was badly hurt as a result, but he was happy that his sister had escaped without any significant injuries. Joseph has been very defensive of his family ever since.

     Despite Joseph’s fighting spirit, he has a softer side. He usually carries his voice in a humble and calm manner. Moreover, he will readily apologize if he attacks someone by accident.

     Generally, Joseph acts as the oldest brother among his siblings. The exception is when he is around his sister, Saba. In that scenario, he suddenly becomes the younger sibling. When he’s around Saba, he suddenly goes from a tough, protective tank, to the young, nervous pup he was before the incident in which he saved Saba.

Appearance: Joseph was the puppy with a mask pattern on his face. His fur is a relatively darker shade of red than his siblings and his mother. He also inherited the yellow and brown eye coloration of his father. Joseph is the most heavily built of his siblings. He also has a scar on his back that resulted from his defense of Saba. His tail is also unusual in that it is almost completely red, rather than being half red and half white like the rest of his siblings (except for Aleu, of course). Unlike his siblings, the red fur coloration on his legs reaches almost to his paws.

Note: I understand that there are a lot of characters on Balto Source, mostly fan-created characters. If for some reason one of my character(s) seems a lot like your character(s), I can assure you that this is completely unintentional. I will say that I have seen enough fan characters that those characters may have influenced or inspired the creation of mine. Other than that, I would never steal another person’s idea on purpose.
