A misty feeling overcame her.
It was a gentle, icy breeze like the breath of an Arctic wolf. A strange, ethereal aura filled the air. It blew coolly through her long fur, sending an ineffable sensation throughout her body. The young Alpha breathed in and out with each sudden wave of air flowing in front of her.
Aleu had shut her eyes, letting a spiritual harmony fill her being. All was silent until suddenly, she could hear a very faint chanting. She strained her ears for better hearing; the chanting began to grow louder. She realized that it was someone singing. She was mesmerized by the song, its voice oh so familiar to her.
‘Praise for the high tide
Praise for the seaside’
Those words. She knew them yet she couldn’t remember how. Her sky-blue eyes opened in hopes of finding the answer.
‘Praise for the sun at high noon
Praise for the lightening
Praise for the singing
Praise the father sun
And sister moon’
She was in an endless ebony void yet it glowed vividly with the mysterious breeze; silvers, whites, and bright aqua blues. She was entirely surrounded in the celestial blend of colors. Looking into the spectacle, her eyes reflected its mystifying radiance.
‘Praise for the red dawn
Grass that we walk upon
Praise for the river’s whispered tune’
In the midst of the gently swirling colors, a great, bright silver light appeared ahead of her.
‘Praise for the wind brother
Praise for the earth mother
Praise the father sun
And sister moon’
Aleu stared in calm wonderment; two distinct figures appeared before her. They slowly faded into view at the center of the strange light, which grew brighter by the minute. One was large, the other small. The smaller one seemed to be sitting between the larger one’s paws.
She could see them perfectly now.
In front of her stood a great white wolf, her golden eyes gleaming vividly. At her paws stood a very familiar brown mouse.
“Muru?”
He smiled at the young wolf/dog, his eyes moved from her up to the mysterious, white-furred entity. Aleu followed his gaze, gaping at the sight of the enormous, snowy figure staring calmly down at her.
Aleu had never seen her before yet her presence gave her an odd sense of safety and protection. She met eyes with the wolf, the two gazing at each other for a long moment. The lupine spirit tilted her head back, face pointing towards the sky. Never in all of her life had Aleu ever heard such a mighty yet symphonic howl from any canine animal.
The white wolf’s voice echoed throughout the void, sounding as though it were coming from everywhere at once. At that moment, the colors of the now wuthering blast of aura merged into a spectrum majesty. Tiny, silver star-like orbs of light filled the void like a multi-colored night sky.
All around her, Aleu could see more figures outlined in these ‘stars’; a fox, a wolverine, a bear, and a raven. She could hear their voices as well, chanting the same song she had earlier heard. The figures moved and swayed throughout the void like a flowing river stream.
Aleu suddenly found the white wolf looking down upon her again. This time, her face was like that of a grandmother looking down upon her own child’s child. She wore a loving smile that filled the Alpha with a warm, comforting sensation.
“Aleu.” the golden-eyed wolf stated with a gentle voice.
Her ears perked, “H-how do you know my name?”
Then, she remembered something Nava had mentioned long ago. Something he saw in a dream vision; a white wolf.
“Aniu…” she whispered, astounded.
At the same time, Aleu’s eyes brightened into a glowing yellow. White flashed over her vision.
She woke up.
Aleu looked around, realizing it was only a dream. She was lying on the floor of her den; next to her was a yawning brown wolf. He opened his jade eyes and looked sleepily at her.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, Hafta,” she reassured him.
Aleu laid her head back down between her paws; she felt her mate’s tongue lick over her head affectionately.
“You awoke so suddenly,” he said, looking down on the Alpha female, “Were you dreaming?”
She lifted her head again, “Yes, but this one wasn’t normal. I can’t quite explain.”
“What did you see?” he was suddenly curious.
“A lot,” she replied, “It seemed so real yet, unreal. I saw many colors and I heard these voices.”
Hafta listened with interest.
“And, I saw Muru but he was with someone,” she continued, “This mysterious white wolf…”
Hafta’s ears perked, “Nava once spoke of the same thing in a dream vision he had. He claimed her name was-“
“Aniu.” She finished his sentence for him.
He nodded, “I believe the dream you had must have meant something.”
Aleu looked up at him, “If it does, then what could it possibly mean?”
“I don’t know but I’m beginning to feel you have the same powers Nava had.”
“Powers? Like when he merged with the tree in your old home?”
“Spiritual powers, “ he looked toward the ceiling of the cave in thought, “We’ll have to wait until we find the meaning behind your dream. I’m sure we will soon.”
She nuzzled closer to her mate and laid her head back down, again. Hafta rested his chin over the back of her neck.
“Soon.” She repeated.

The scene is very sweet and placid, with a nice bit of foreshadowing
at the end. I hope the rest is as enjoyable. |
