Shattered Heart --- Part 1

Owls hooed and silence broke through. Everybody was asleep in Nome, Alaska and the wolves were on their way to the big hunt, not just a pack, but all the wolves of Nome, Alaska. Devan, a very talented hunter, not surprisingly arrived there. All the elders were there to seperate them into groups, not to hunt. They were far too old to take on the risky journey. Devan saw Hayley, his crush there and smiled at her and she smiled back. Everybody waited patiently for the Elders to announce the groups.

Finally an elder spoke, "Now it is time to announce the groups you wolves are going to be seperated into."

The elder told everyone who they were going to be with and where they were to be headed. Devan and Hayley were in the same group, so was Larkin, Hayley's other crusher. Devan was cautious around Larkin and always watched all of his moves, for Devan was over protective over Hayley and didn't want her falling in love with nobody else. Devan cared for Hayley dearly and didn't want her to be with anybody he didn't trust, and he knew that he would never hurt Hayley. So he always stayed by her side, watching Larkin closely. When the elder told everybody to start hunting at their locations, Devan stayed right beside Hayley, his fur touching hers. Larkin looked jealous and gave Devan a quick glance of sorrow and walked off somewhere else, but to where he could still see Devan and Hayley, which was behind them both, but behind 2 other wolves so Devan and Hayley wouldn't think that he was watching them so very closely. Devan looked into Hayley's eyes and blushed,

"You're beautiful tonight..." He complimented Hayley. Hayley looked at him and blushed as well.

"Thank you, Devan." She said.

Larkin eyed them closely and heard what they were saying, he whimpered softly and his ears flattened. Aleu looked at him.

"Are you alright Larkin?" She asked.

Larkin glared at her, "Leave me alone." He snapped, realizing it was very snippy, but he didn't care.

Aleu growled, "No need to be rude!"

Devan looked over his shoulder, "Tone it down Aleu, and Larkin...no need to be snippy." He said.

Larkin sighed, "Sorry Devan."

Hayley looked behind herself and saw Larkin's face, showing jealousy and sorrow, "Larkin, you alright?" She asked.

Larkin nodded, "I'm fine."

Aleu snarled, "You just said leave me alone to me!!!" She snapped.

Devan haulted in his steps and turned around and fiercly growled, "Aleu! Stop bothering him you brat!!!"

Aleu haulted in fright and confusion, "Oookkk???"

Larkin glanced at the two and saw Hayley stop as well realizing what was going on, "Aleu, he is saying you need to not be rude and stop being such a brat, leave him alone." She said helping out.

Devan glanced back at Hayley, "Thank you."

Aleu snarled and trotted ahead of them all and stayed as far away as she could, jealous of seeing a couple, for she had just broken up with her mate, Samorai.

Larkin sighed in frustration, "Thanks guys, I appreciate it." He said.

Devan nodded, "No prob bro." He said and got out of his pouncing position and turned back around and continued walking with Hayley, still catious around Larkin, so he got closer to Hayley and eyed Larkin, Larkin looked at him in jealousy and Devan licked Hayley's forehead. Making Larkin even more jealous, thinking Devan was thinking, 'She's mine.'

Hours later they all had hunted down a deer and brought it back to the elder's den. They were the first ones to be done. Devan glanced at Hayley.

"Hayley..." He said and then stopped hesitating.

"What?" Hayley gently asked.

"Would you like to go on a walk with...me??" Devan asked sheepishly.

Hayley blushed, "Well...sure."

Devan smiled at Hayley and licked her cheek twice, Hayley blushed and pawed Devan playfully away. Larkin looked at them in jealousy.

"Jealous?" Aleu asked Larkin.

"Yeah..." Larkin replied.

Aleu sighed, "I understand your pain, I just broke up with my mate Samorai and the next day saw him flirting with some 'Bone'"

"I've heard of Samorai and Bone, they both are great hunters. But why would he ever break up with you?" Larkin asked.

Aleu looked at Larkin, "No...I broke up with him. I just...nevermind. So...that's Devan. And you have a crush on Hayley?" She asked.

Larkin nodded, "Yeah."

Aleu nodded, "I understand, well, wanna find out what they're up to, without making them realize us?" She offered.

Larkin sighed, "Well..."

"C'mon!!" Aleu whined.

Larkin nodded, "Fine, but if we get found, don't blame me for spying!!"

Aleu rolled her eyes, "Alright, just c'mon. Follow me!!" She barked.

They both ran into the trees and followed Devan and Hayley. Larkin looked at them with jealously but kept track of where he was going making sure that he was still following Aleu. Devan smelt them but Hayley did not sence anything, he didn't mind Larkin seeing them, for he knew that Larkin would be jealous, so, he spiced Hayley up and pawed her ear playfully. Hayley barked playfully and pounced onto Devan. Devan howled with pride and pawed Hayley's muzzle playfully. Hayley licked his chin and Devan licked her chops. He then pushed her off gently and ran off.

"Bet ya can't catch me!!" He yapped.

"Ya think?!!" Hayley howled.

Aleu darted toward them both and motioned Larkin to follow and Larkin did as told. When they finally caught up with Devan and Hayley, Hayley was flirting with Devan. Devan spotted Larkin and gave him a, 'She's mine' look and made him more jealous. Devan lipped the words, 'Stay away from my girl' and growled slightly, but Hayley did not hear. Larkin backed away and whimpered then ran off.

"What am I going to do?" Larkin asked to himself.
