Back in 1936 in Austria, a little girl named Maria wanted a puppy. she kept on liiking and looking but she didn't like the puppies for sale. she wanted a puppy that loved her and would protect her if anything bad happened to her. " come now Maria, you'll find a good puppy somewhare." her mother told her. " no i won't mama. no puppy around likes me." maria said  " Well how do you know silly." her father said. " well, i see a puppy and it plays with me, then, they play with another child just the same." maria said. " oh i see. want a puppy who will play and stay with you and not just want to impress any child." her mother said. " yes mama, that's what i want. i want a puppy who will also protect me from any danger and i want a puppy that i love and will love mr forever." " well we'll just keep looking." her father said. they kep looking and no puppy that she liked. ther was cute puppies, but they did the same thing.

               Maria finally gave up hope. she just layed with her friends and was also sad. her friends tried to cheer her up, but they din't help with there puppies. When miria was outside, she heard a whimper coming from somewhare. she looked around, and there she saw an 8 week old wolf  puppy laying out in her yard. she showed her parents and they let her keep this puppy. the puppy was everything maria wanted the puppy to be. so she called her *Edleweiss.* eclipse is what everyone else called her. she only liked to play with Maria. Maria loved Edleweiss and edleweiss loved Maria. Their lives couldn't have been any better, at that time.because in 1938, a terribel thing would come and destroy their friendship. but right now, everything is great.

          the next 4 months , Maria's mother got very, very sick she had cancer. " my darling, come towards me." Maria's mother said on her bed. Maria walked to her mother and gave her a kiss. " yes mother." Maria said. " i love you very much, and you're very luck to have a wolfdog as brave as Edleweiss." Edleweiss walked towards Maria's mother and licked her face. " oh, you're such a good girl." Maria's mother said and stroked Edleweiss's head. if you were there, you could here Edleweiss's heart break. and she had a few tears coming out of her eyes. Maria's father came running in to see his wife. he grbbed her hand and kissed it. " please forgive me, lisle, forgive me." Herman told his wife. ( lisle is the name of maria's mother, and Herman is the name of Maria's father) Lisle started to brethe very heavily and couldn't keep her eyes open. she told her husband and young daughter yo come to her with Edleweiss. she gave them all a kiss on the check, evan Edleweiss. " i love you all very much. and take care now. i'm not going to leave, i'll always be here, and in your heart protecting you." Lisle shut her eyes and stopped brething. Herman started to cry, then Maria started to cry. Edleweiss went to comfort them both, she helped their sorrow alot.

          1 year later, Maria had a new mother, Anna. Edleweiss liked her alot. Maria thought she'd just be like a friend of the family,but she was her mother now and she liked that. everything was fine again untill a long line of soiders marched into the borders of Austria. Edleweiss got very worried and didn't know what they were but, the one sighn of evil Edleweiss saw on them was a red band with a white circle with what looked like a spider on the inside. Herman, Anna, and Maria were all terrified. now, certain stores were not open. people were leaving with these eveil people, and Herman always came home at like 9:30, but he had to come home at  8:00. nothing was the same. there were those men at every corrner. maria did not go to school for as long as she was supost to. everything was oposite than it was.

         " guys, what do you think this is? i think it's nothing but bad news." Edleweiss told her friends. " oh edleweiss, you and we have nothing to worry about. thses people only want people and a certain type of person, what was it...oh yes the jewish people." one of Edleweiss's friends said. " the jewish peole!?! but why." Edleweiss said. " i think it's because of what they believe in. ." another one of her friends said. "well, what do they beleive in? ." " I don't know. but it must be something the head man doesn't like." her first friend said again. " do you think they'll hurt Maria and her family? and who's the head man?" Edleweiss asked with worry on her face. " if they're jewish, yes, if not , no. and i heard my owner and the guards saying hile hitler wich means praise hitler." " i don't know if they are or not. oh no! they're in trouble! aaahhh!" edleweiss yeld. " im going to make sure Hitler and his armt doesn't lay a hand on my Maria and all of Austria. i promis it. unless it's too late i will free all of Austria and Maria.i will also promis that!" Edlweiss said. " well, good luck with that. you must remember there's a whole army right behind this man, and you don't have an army at all." another one of Edleweiss's friends said. " well i got teeth and claws, what does he have alone?" Edleweiss asked. " he has thumbs that he cam move and a gun." the same friend said. " oh yeah. but i will make sure austria is safe." edlweiss said. " huh, good luck, you'll need it."

          they split apart and Edleweiss went home trying to get her mind off of this whole thing. " Maria, can you go upstairs and finnish your dinner while me and your father talk about something." anna asked. " yes anna i will." Maria brought her food upstairs to eat and Edleweiss sat and listened. " huh, what are we going to do, they'll take away everything we have. we need to go." Anna told Herman. " they took away our sugar, butter, tea, newspapers, rubber, freedom, our heat, our country! what next? our children?" Anna yelled. " just calm down Anna, we will get out of this some how. we are going to try to get out of this." herman put his hands on his wife's shoulders and started to brethe heavily like he was going to cry. Edleweiss saw the look on his face and came up to him and started to make him smile. Herman's smile didn't stay on for long though. Maria came back down the stairs and washed the dishes. " wht do you look like you cried Papa?" she asked him. " it's nothing sweetheart. just wash the dishes and go up to bed." Maria came to her father and gave him a hug. " i don't think a hug will work this time." Maria let go and finnished washing the dishes and went to bed. Edleweiss kep on listening to the conversation and started to get mad at what was happening.
