Forgotten
By Ahura Werewolf
As the rolling city scape passed by as we sped along the highway.
I waited patiently.
I was finally going to see the hero that had long been at the center of my world since childhood.
As we made our way through the bowels of the city, my heart pounded.
It was a hot day and my excitement wasn't helping me remain any cooler.
The museum gave shelter from the heat.
While the museum housed many interesting things like fossils and models of the planets.
I was here to see him.
Balto.
The one thing I had wanted to see since I was a kid.
Through the maze of exhibits I walked.
Upon rounding a corner I came face to face with the legend.
I at first couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Here was the hero that I had long adored.
I was sad to see his once beautiful black pelt had faded into a brownish color.
Years spent under intense light.
The small video next to him showed historical footage when he was alive.
But there were so few details, this wonderful dog had no story of his own.
The few individuals who walked by giving this hero one look before continuing on.
It broke my heart, this hero forgotten in a remote part of the museum.
No proper display to tell the story of his deeds or the dire straights that Nome found itself in.
Nothing but this small TV presentation.
This needs to change a hero for so many doesn't need to be forgotten.
Left to collect dust as the years march on.
