Chapter 1
"A Jedi born, a Jedi forever."-Luke Skywalker
The wolves and the dogs had always lived peacefully on the planet Jumnpe. The wolves lived their life in their place, the dogs theirs. They had different ways of life, but they could get along. Most often, they wouldn't. The species were related in terms of evoulution, but their ways of life were to different. But, some creatures, one wolf one dog, could be friends. There was no law against it. It just didn't happen to much. Falling in love was even more rare. There was even a law against it. It was the "only" way to keep both species alive. Everyone thought that these rules were fair, and followed them.
Well, almost every one.
A Jedi wolf named Saber had fallen in love with a husky named Alaska. They had mated and had one pup. Saber kept the secret that his pup was part wolf. It was the only way to keep his strain of the Jedi going. The one pup, who's name was Balto, was treated like a dog. No one knew that he was part wolf. He turned out to be a great pilot at a young age, and had promise. He also had what they call Jedi Reflexs. We all know what these are, right? Anyway. He had a good life untill...
His father, Saber had been going through more Jedi training. He became frusterated and took the quick and easy path becoming a Jedi. This turned him to evil. He is not known as just Saber anymore, but Darth Saber. One of the most infamous creatures in the glaxy. He was working with another person. One who has betryaed the rebillon. Together, they will try to build the empire back. Piece by piece. Saber then looked at the planet Jumnpe. His son lived there. "Why did he mate with a husky?" he thought to himself. I must punish my son for this foolish act of mine. A message rang out through the galxy. A half wolf is living amoung the dogs, and Balto is his name. Balto would never be treated the same again.
------------------------------
Balto sighed softly. His father had betrayed the rebels. He was part wolf, and his mother had dissapered. Possibly killed by Ranouck, Steele's father for her "betrayl". He had no friends. Well, almost no friends. He lived with an old goose named Borris, and two polar bear cubs named Muk and Luk. The two polar bear cubs were to afraid to fly. Polar Bears who can't fly, Balto thought. How funny.
Balto looked sadley out the window. He sighed again. The rebel base was relocated to Tatooine for saftey purposes. A dust storm was starting again. Soon everything would be covered in dust. Where is Borris, he thinks.
"I hate storms!" The old goose cries.
"Storm starting up again?" Balto asked.
"Looked out the window latley?" Borris said, annoyed.
"It just started to storm, and I suggest you walk away from the window."
Just as Borris was about to ask why, a huge rock, picked up by the storm slammed through Balto's window. Borris gasped.
"But how did you, I mean, how-? Never mind. Let's go check the Star Ships, see if they're okay." Borris stammered.
Balto walked into the hanger part of his home. Sice he was isolated, he had to have his own hanger. He called his home, the Trawler, after an old boat where his ancestors once lived. He looked at his ship, and checked it. He had an old A-Wing. It was the best ship he could get, since he was not trusted by the rebellion. He wanted to have a X-Wing, one of the fleets most advanced fighters. He knew he could never get such a ship. No one would trust him with a ship that advanced.
Borris, Muk, and Luk all what they called Tri-Wings. Borris never found out the real name for them, so that's what he called them. They were not really fighters. They were training ships for the alliance. But, since Muk and Luk couldn't fly, and that Borris wasn't the best pilot, the ships suited them well.
Balto's gaze drifted from the ships to the stars. The dust storm was over, and the sky was free of dust.
"Someday," Balto said out load, "I will fly and be thought of as a somebody, I know it in my heart."
Chapter 2
"I wish that they (Steele, etc.) would just leave Balto alone."-Jenna
Luke Skywalker shook his head. He knew something was coming, but he was not sure what it was. He also felt a disturbance in the force. It is as if, he thought, a Jedi was about to be "born".
"The unknown Jedi is a true hero," Luke said. He then walked out of a room in the main building to the hanger. There, he checked out his ship and did some lightsaber exercises. He knew that a race was going on, and things could get a little rough.
Steele was struggling. He was yelling at his ship to move. The other dog, Kigh, was in the lead. Steele used his evil mind and pretened to bump the other ship. This made Kigh slow down, and Steele grabbed the lead and won the race.
"Great Job Steele," Star, a crazy husky said.
"Nice Job dere," Nikki said along with Star.
"That was the most amazing...", Kaltag said quickly.
Steele just smiled. He loved to be praised. There, he saw ahead of him, the beautiful husky Jenna. She was a fighter pilot, flying a Y-Wing. Steele admired her. Before he got to talk to her, he was mobbed by Slyvie and Dixie, who thought he was the most wonderful dog in the world.
"Steele," a doctor said, "We need to talk to you."
-------------------------
"He's sick, so very sick. It looks like diptheria. This disease has not struck in years. The only medicine for this disease is only manufactored on Earth. This disease is striking mainly the dogs and a few humans. We must get the antitoxin from Earth, fast." The doctor pleaded.
Steele growled. That would mean less members for his starship race team. He would be at a disadvantage. He didn't care if the dogs lived or not. He just wanted to win more races and become more popular.
"We have to get the medicine!" The doctor cried.
--------------------------------
Admiral Ackbar called a meeting. He explained the urgency of the situation. He also explained what would happen if the medicine did not come through.
"We will have eight pilots flying this mission. Steele will be leading the dog group do to his recent win in the race." The admiral said.
Murmurs were heard through the crowd. The humans knew that Steele was a good pilot, but he was rude and conceited. The humans didn't trust him. Why he was picked for this mission they did not know. The dogs on the other hand, did not really know Steele. They thought of him as a hero and that he was the greatest.
"Since Steele has won many races in the past, he will be the leader of the dog group, that is why. Luke Skywalker will lead another group." The admiral said.
Relived sighs were heard. The alliance knew how good of a pilot Luke was, and that he was also a Jedi. Everyone knew now that things would be okay.
"There will be three pilots in each group. As you know, we have already decieded the group of humans, Wedge, Travailer, and Kanak. The dog pilots will be decided by a pod race."
Luke smiled. The pod race course seemed so familar to him. He also knew who would win. He knew that if Steele raced, he would crash into the first rock he saw.
Balto watched the meeting. There, in the center of the room was the beautiful husky Jenna.
"If only I can get her to meet me," Balto said softly to himself, "Maybe she will relalize that I'm not evil."
Jenna slowly walked out of the briefing room. As Balto walked to meet her, he slipped and their noses touched.
"Jenna, I uh, ha ha," Balto said to her sheepishly.
"Jenna come on, we have to get the Pod Race course set up. The race is tommorrow!" another memeber of the aliance cried. Jenna looked back, and then Balto was gone.
Luke again smiled. There, as he watched Balto run home, was the winner of the pod race. Then, a realization hit him. There, was his unknown Jedi.
"Balto," Borris said as he saw him walking,"You know that,"
"Didn't make the team, Bingo?"Steele said.
"Don't look at him," Borris said wisley
"My name's Balto," Balto said.
"Sorry, Balto, Balto the half breed,"
And then Steele was gone.
-----------------------------
"And what may I ask is so interesting," Borris said to Balto, who was gazing out the window.
"Jenna," Balto replied.
"So go make your move,"
"Nah, she's not my type. Why would she go for a half breed anyway," Balto said sadly.
"Love can work in strange ways," And then Borris flew off.
Balto gathered up his courage, and walked into the main building of the alliance. He spied Jenna looking into the hospital window.
"Jenna, Jenna," Balto starts.
"Oh Balto, hi," Jenna replies.
"Oh just a shot out of the dark, do you want to go have a drink or something?" Balto said with hope in his eyes.
Jenna gave no reply. A tear ran down her cheeck. Her ears lowered.
"Jenna, what's wrong?" Balto asks.
"One of my very good human friends, Rosy has caught diptheria.
