OK, SO HERE'S PART FIVE!  ALSO A NOTE!  I WILL BE MERGING THE TWO STORIES!  THERE WILL NO LONGER BE DIFFERENT PARTS TO TELL KODI'S PART OF THE STORY!  YOU'LL SEE WHY WHEN YOU READ!

"Jenna!  Jenna!"  Balto woke with a gasp to find his self in the center of a ring of wolves.  It took him a second to remember the events of the past few days.  In that time, Mage had accepted Balto into the pack, permiting that Vitwany be his mentor.  The red she-wolf, Balto could see, was sleeping not ways off, next to her mate Oreo.  Quietly, Balto stepped over the wolves around him and made it outside the den.  Te sun had not even risen over the trees yet.

"Jenna....." Balto moaned, remembering his dream.  He had been running, hearing Jenna's voice calling to him, begging him to come home.  In a desperate attempt, Balto had turned to take a shortcut back to Nome and found VItwany standing near him.

"Vitwany" he called out.  "Let me pass." 

"Dog!" Vitwany had yelled.  "Run home to your mate you liar!  I looked out for you and this is your repayment?"  Jenna continued to call.  "I will not let you pass!"  Vitwany screamed.  Then Balto had woken up.

"Dog."  Balto repeated the insult from his dream as he walked away from the den site and into the forest.  In the week since joining the wolf pack, Vitwany had grown into not only his mentor, but his friend.  "Of course they still think i'm a loner wolf.  If these wolves ever found out i was part dog................"

A snapping twig suddenly caused Balto to whip around.  A wolf was running from the bushes toward him, it's teeth bared in anger.

"Kodi?  What are you doing up?" Jenna asked, stretching her legs as she watched her sun go to the edge of the boat where the two of them, Star, muk & luk and Boris now shared along with Kodi's two pups Lela and Boris the second (yes he was named after Boris the goose).

"Mother, i have a feeling."  Kodi said.  "I just feel that dad is in danger.  And would he be in danger if it wasn't for me?"

"Kodi, you must not be blamed for Steele's actions."  Jenna said. 

"Then why hasn't he come for you?  He hates Balto for stealing his pride and stealing you.  But that's not all i think."  Kodi whimpered.  "And i was a coward for letting him get to me!"

"Kodi, you were forced to make one of the hardest decisions in your life!  Between your father and your family!"  Jenna said, licking her son's ear.  "You chose the right one!  Balto would be horrified if he thought you would have turned on Dusty and your pups.  He will understand."

"Papa?" a voice said.  The two husky's whipped around to see Lela looking up from her pile of blankets that she shared with her brother.  "Thank you."  

"For what Lela?" Kodi asked, walking over to his pups.  Boris was still asleep.

"You save us.  And now you save grandpa."  Lela looked at her father.  "You save grandpa liked you saved us."

"It's not that simple Lela...."  Jenna began, but Kodi cut her off.

"Yes it is.  Lela is right."  Kodi looked over the beach and into the trees.  "I am going to find him and bring him home!"

"I'll go with you!" Another voice popped out.  Star had woken up.

"It's to dangerous Star."  Kodi said.  "Please stay here and make sure that big black dog, Rector, doesn't give anymore trouble."

"I will deal with Rector."  Jenna said.  "I will find out who he is.  Star will go with you Kodi.  Together, you must bring Balto back!"  The two dogs nodded and sprang off the boat and into the forest, Jenna watching them go.

"Shasta!"  Balto growled as the white wolf attacked again.  "Shasta what are you doing?"  Ever since Balto had joined the pack, he had made to stear clear of the white she-wolf.  

"My duty to my pack!"  Shasta growled, jumping off Balto and whipping back around to face him.  "Wolfdog!"

"Shasta, please!  I can explain!"  Balto jumped back as Shasta lunged out with her claws.

"I don't want to hear your explanation!"  Shasta screamed.  "Your a dog!  You heard our stories of how we hate dogs!  Their disgrace to us!  They hunt us!  And now your one of them!  I will kill you where you stand wolfdog!"

"You'll be doing me a favor!" Balto growled back.  "You think your the only one to call me wolfdog!  All my life, i've tried to fit in with the humans and keep out of trouble.  But that was impossible due to my heritage!  I'm not a dog, not a wolf!  What am i Shasta?  Huh?"

Shasta snarled.  "Your a disgrace!  And your mother was a disgrace!  Any wolf who mates with a dog is a disgrace!"  

"Why do you hate dogs so much Shasta?"  Balto jumped aside as Shasta lunged at him once again.

"They hunt......."  Shasta began.

"Not your race.  I know why the wolves hate dogs.  I want to know why you hate dogs!"  Balto said.  Shasta froze, eyes staring at Balto.  Finally, she spoke, her voice sounding much different than the angy wolf that attacked Balto.

"Because of what they took from me.  I was a young wolf in a different pack so far away from here.  I had a mate and three pups.  They were beutiful pups!"  Shasta whined, her voice cracking.  Balto guessed she had not told this story in a long time, if she had even ever told it at all.

"Mica was my little girl!  Kar and Lupin were my two sons!  They all inherited their father's looks; oh they were my pride and joy.  Finally, i had a family.  But i was not allowed to be happy.  Man came into our territory, and with them hunting dogs.  At first my pack thought we could take them, but they were not like ordinary dogs.  These dogs had the sharpest teeth i'd ever seen and they speed was unmatched!  They had been trained for killing wolves!  One by one, i saw my pack fall.  Finally, when my mate never returned from a hunting trip, i knew he was gone to!  By that time, my pups could walk on their own.  They had already been on their first hunt and everything!  So i told them to run!  Together, we ran though the forests that surrounded my packs area.  We made it out without drawing attencion, but Kar was furious.  He said that wolves shoud never run from dogs, we are predetors and they were prey."

"I begged him not to, but he howled a long, clear howl.  The dogs heard it and came running.  Mica, my little girl, she did not like the idea of fighting.  She longed to run, but Kar and Lupin stayed and fought the dogs that had stolen their packs from them.  I watched the dogs tear my sons throat out in front of me!  I ran with Mica for days and days until my daughter fell down from exahustion and lack of food!  To my horror, she died right there on the ground."  Shasta's voice turned ice cold again.

"And so Balto the wolfdog, i answer your question.  I hate dogs because they killed my family and my pack!   I made a vow over my daughters body that if i ever saw another dog again, i would kill it!"  Shasta finished her story and stared at Balto, the hatred slowly filling up back into her eyes.

"I know i can never feel your pain Shasta, and you have a right to be mad," Balto began, refusing to back up as Shasta approched him.

"Right?  I have more than a right wolfdog!"  Shasta growled softly.

"But do you think i would kill a pup?  You must learn that not all dogs are they same!"  Balto's tone sounded pleading as Shasta got even closer to him, her fangs sparkling.  

"I don't care if all dogs are different!  You share a title!"  Shasta snarled.  And with that she lunged aiming right for Balto's throat.

 A few minutes later, somewhere in the forest where Balto was hiding, Kodi once again got a terrible feeling.  Only this one was much worse.

"Father." Kodi whispered.
