Tala had been acting very strange for the last few weeks. Jakita didn’t know why though. He always asked her if she was feeling OK. She just would say she fine. But Jakita knew something was up. He trotted over to his dad’s beached boat to ask him for help. Balto was sitting on the boats deck with Boris just talking. So Jakita walked up to them and asked, “Do you know whats wrong with Tala, she hasn’t been acting herself lately.” “Well what has she been doing?” Balto questioned “She keeps on eyeing me and giving me affection for no reason. And she stares at me and smiles at me. Is she OK, is she sick?” Jakita panicked Balto and Boris looked at each other, grinning for they knew what was wrong with Tala. Boris lifts his wings in the air and shouted out with joy, “Puppies!” “What?!?” Jakita said “Jenna did the same thing to me when she was ready to have pups. Congratulations son.” Balto said “But I don’t know anything about puppies dad, what am I gonna do?” Jakita sighed “Don’t worry Jakita; you’ll know when the time comes.” Balto said with a smile Jakita thanked both of them for their advice and walked back to his pack. Thoughts raced through his mind: What am I going to do? I know nothing about rearing a pup. What if Tala is mad at me for not being sure if I want to have pups or not. He let the thought leave his head, Tala would never be angry at him. And just like his dad said he’ll know what to do when the time comes. The walked over to Tala and nuzzled her. Tala told Jakita that the pack left to go find food. Tala asked Jakita, “Jakita, do you want to have puppies. Everyone in Nome had pups and even some wolfs in the pack. Please I really want pups.” Jakita smiled and nodded. He licked his mate and they when in the den. A few weeks later Jakita found out that Tala was pregnant and he was going to become a father. The pack helped a lot to; they knew Tala would need extra food to feed the pups so they always gave her a rabbit or two when she became hungry. Three months went by, and Tala started to feel tons of cramps and pains. Jakita knew what was going to happen so he and Tala left to find another den to house the pups in. When they got a little older they would bring the pups to the pack to meet their family. Tala lie on her side moaning in pain. Jakita lie beside her nuzzling his mate. Tala had four pups, three boys and one girl. They named the grayish black pup Dakota, she looked like Jakita. They named the rust color pup Scout, he looked just like Tala. The brown pup was named Samson, he looked like Balto. The last pup was Soba, he had a pure white coat, and he took after his great grandmother, Anui. They were so proud of all their pups. They nuzzled each one and Jakita said, “Their perfect Tala.” They smiled at each other. When the pups were five months old it was time for them to meet the pack. Jakita walked behind the pups to make sure they didn’t get lost. Tala leads the way to guide them to the pack. The pack was in the den just relaxing, soaking up the summer sun. the pups ran ahead barking and playing with one another. The pack arose when they heard the leaders and pups coming. They all wagged their tails and barked hello. The pack greeted the pups and licked them to welcome them into the pack. Tala and Jakita smiled and watched as their pups played with the pack. Jakita howled to his mom and dad to come see the pups. Jenna and Balto trotted up to the den. Boris got tired of walking so he sat on Balto’s back. When they saw the pups they were so happy, they were grandparents! They ran up to the pups and licked them to say hello. Then they walked over to Tala and Jakita, “Congratulations, were so proud of you two.” Balto, Jenna and Boris said They sat down together and watched as their pups ran around and played with their family. Jakita and Tala nuzzled each other and smiled at the pups. Jakita, Tala, Samson, Dakota, Scout and Soba are my characters please don’t use them unless you ask first.
