Kadin lay on the cold ground unknowing of what had happened. The pick up truck had dropped his cage on its way to the pound. The cage lay around him in shattered pieces. After all it was just a poorly made wooden cage. Soon the sounds finally returened to his ears. The barking grew louder and lounder. "Get up you stupid mutt" the voices said. Kadin opened his eyes to see three dogs. Kadin sat up and stared at the three strange dogs. He looked at the first dog A small whimpy looking dog with grayish colored fur. The second was a Tan colored dog with a brown spot over his eye. Finally the thrid dog was large black dog with bright blue eyes. "Did you hear me mutt" the black dog said.  Kadin looked at him. "Uh what" Kadin said. "You stupid mutt I said to Move" he snapped. The three dogs growled as they drew closer to Kadin. The large black dog lunged at Kadin. Kadin managed to duck just in time as the dog flew over his head and landed in the snow. Kadin turned with suprise and looked at the dog. Kadin only had one thought so he charged at the dog. Kadin sunk his teeth into the dog's shoulder. The dog yelped in pain as he turned and grabed Kadin. He pulled Kadin off him but Kadin didn't go alone. As Kadin was pulled off his teeth slashed deeper into his shoulder. The dog yelped then turned angerly to Kadin. Kadin could see the tears in his eyes. "Steele lets just go" the tan dog barked. The tan dog and the little gray dog had been watching the whole time. "Don't tell me what to do" Steele snapped. Steele looked back at Kedin. Just then Kedin bit his face. Steele yelped then turn and ran. The two dogs looked at Kedin. "Wow" they both said. "Kaltag he just beat Steele" the little gray dog said as he turned to the tan dog. "Shut up Star" Kaltag snapped as he hit Star hard on the head. Star stood up quickly and looked at Kaltag. "We had better go find Steele" Kaltag said as he turned to star. Then they turned and ran off leaving Kadin alone. Kadin walked through the town until he found a wooden sign. Kadin read the sign and it said "Welcome to Nome Alaska." "Alaska" Kadin yelped.  Kadin turned to the small town. "I ain't in Kentucky no more" Kadin said in his southern voice. Kadin looked around when he saw some dogs looking at him. One was an older male who looked more like a wolf than a dog. Second was a young red male husky. Finally there was an older female husky. "Hey Dad look" the young husky said. The older male looked at Kadin and smiled. "Well this must be the pup who put Steele in his place" the old male said. "Howdy" Kadin said. "Hi" said the young male. "Whats your name pup I am Balto this is my son Kodi and my wife Jenna" balto said. "Kadin" he answered. "Well Kadin welcome to Nome" Balto said with a smile."Not the best Welcome I ever got" Kadin said. "Well whys that Kadin" Kodi asked. "Well I don't belong here" Kadin sighed. Every thing was quiet for a long time. Until a goose appeared he waddled along then stopped in front of Balto. Balto looked at the goose and smiled "Hey Boris" Balto barked. "What is going on here" Boris asked in a heavy Russian accent. "This is Kadin Uncle Boris" Kodi said as he looked at Kadin. "Yes your the pup who kicked Steele's butt" Boris said. Kadin nodded and looked back at the three dogs. "Kadin come back to the boat with us" Jenna said. "Well alright then" Kadin answered. So the five of them walked to an old boat. "So Kadin were are you from?" Balto asked. They leaned in to hear what Kadin would say. "Well I am from Kentucky. Down in the states. I kinda remember how I got here." Kadin said as he looked at their faces. "Whow your from the states" Kodi said as he stared at Kadin. "Well how did you get all the way up here?" Balto asked. Kadin looked into space for a moment then he looked back at them. "Well I lived on a dairy farm my whole life. I was there to kill the local rattlesnakes. Till one day a collage student moved in next door. Every Friday night he and his friends would get drunk and go out and play pranks on the other farms near by. There most reccent prank was going to the Millers farm and shooting a cow with a shotgun. Well the next Friday they came over to my farm. So drunk they could hardly walk. I was asleep on the pourch well they thought it would be funny to throw rocks at me. Well when that didn't work and I almost tore one of their hands off. They knocked me out put me in a crate they made themselves and sent me to Alaska" Kadin finished the story and looked at all of their faces. "Whow" Kodi said as he looked a poor Kadin. "Well thank ya'll but I have to go" Kadin said in his pure country voice. Kadin said goodbye to them then went on alone into the city of Nome. He walked along when he saw a young man yelling his head off. He was being watched by some sled dogs. Kadin Tried to hear what he was saying. "This sucks I don't have a lead dog. Jason has hurt himself while training" the young man yelled mostly to himself unless he was talking to the dogs. "Now how will I race. There has to be ten dogs I only have nine" he said that then sat down in the snow. He put his face into his hands. The dogs just stared at their master not moveing at all. "Well" a voice from behind Kadin said. Kadin turned quickly to see an older man with a black beard looking at him. "Hey John" the old man yelled. The young man looked up and walked towards the old man and Kadin. He stopped and looked down at Kadin. "Well hello buddy" John said as he bent down and began to pet Kadin. "Will he work as lead dog John?" the old man asked. "Yeah I guess he would he is strong enough" John said. "Come on buddy we will get you a harness fitted." John said as Kadin followed him to were the other dogs sat. "Ok boys this is your new lead dog" John Said to the troop of dogs. They looked at Kadin then back at John. "I will be right back buddy" John said as he walked into the cabin. "My names not buddy" Kadin barked. Still John was a human so he could not understand Kadin. Only three dogs walked up to Kadin. First was a tall grey husky named Wayte, second was a light black dog named Milo, third was a husky who looked alot like Kodi named Dingo. "So your our new leader" Dingo asked. "I guess so" Kadin answered trying to sound like he knew what Dingo meant. "Well let's just hope you can win the Iditarod then country pup" Milo said. A few days passed and race day came many teams of dogs stood around in straight lines awaiting to hear the word go. Kadin stood at the front of his team when he saw Kodi and Balto. "Congrats Kadin your a lead dog now" Balto said as he smiled. "I have been trying to be lead dog of a mail team for two years now and you become lead dog of a raceing team in seven days" Kodi mummbled. Kadin and balto laughed. Kadin turned to the teams of dogs then he looked to Milo who was straped behind him. "We can do this" Milo said trying to comfort Kadin. Finally everyone stood to the sides and the man with the black beard stood in front of the teams of wild dogs. He rasid a small hand gun into the air and fired. All the dogs took off wild and determand to win. John still called Kadin buddy it drove Kadin mad. "Mush" John shouted to the fearless young dogs. They raced from check point to check point. The had reached the third checkpoint they were all very tired. Still they were one of the three final teams remaning. They all lay asleep when a howl awoke Kadin. Kadin sat up then crept to the outside of the tent. Three wolves stood there staring at him. "Well a puppy dog" The first wolf spoke with deep voice that periced Kadins heart with fear. Kadin growled loudly finding only a little courage to do so. Thankfully John heard the growl and came out side with a gun. He fired the gun pericing one of the wolves in the side. "Caleb" the lead wolf growled. The wolf and his companion picked up the wounded wolf and trotted off. "This isn't over puppy" he growled Back to Kadin. The next day the team had reached the final check point with only fifty miles to go. First they had to cross a ice bridge. They were in last place they headed across the bridge. Kadin relized that it was cracking under them. Then it broke they all fell and landed deep in the snow. Kadin sat up and relized all of the theam except for Dingo and Milo were dead. John sat up but his leg was broke."CRAP" John screamed. Kadin shook the snow from his fur. "What now Dingo" Milo asked.Dingo hated Kadin so he turned to Milo and said "Ask our fearless leader"Kadin was sitting next to John. "Look how close we were to winning buddy" John whispered to Kadin. That was the only time in his life he liked to be called buddy.  Kadin saw a tunnel out of the corner of his eye then looked at John then at his remaning teammates. "Listen guys we will win" Kadin snapped. Milo and Dingo looked up at Kadin then they helped Kadin get John onto the sled. Then Kadin led them through the tunnel. The tunnel came out on the outskirts of Nome. Kadin relized they were ahead of the other teams so they ran as hard as the three dogs could go. They crossed the finish line first. John had to tell everyone what had happend not only were they champs they were heros.
