You might be surprised to learn that there is a statue of the real Balto in Palmer, Alaska ( http://www.baltostruestory.com/monumentsmountsp3.htm) - in front of the Palmer Museum of History and Art. And every year when the first snows come, the staff puts a red scarf around his neck (there are two pictures I found of the statue with a RED scarf around his neck from recently! - http://i15.photobucket.com/alb [...] n/Nome2/BaltostatuePalmer2.jpg and http://i15.photobucket.com/alb [...] in/Nome2/BaltostatuePalmer.jpg).

Perhaps it was fate that you came up with this, hm? ;) And it's a nice bit of work.
