Yeah Dragon Tamer, I agree, good analysis. Steele is a complete son of a .... well His arrogance nd insecurity are his largest character traits... but what if that side of his personality wasn't so prominent when he was a puppy? Maybe he became a huge jerk as the years went on and his negative characteristics were a product of the environment he was raised in, rather than his inherent nature. So much we don;t know about the canon Balto characters! I wish they'd make more movies....

Bassist --> Meh, I doubt it. Steele wasn't just a jerk to Balto; he was a jerk to everyone. Like Jenna said, the only way he cared about others was in regard to them boosting his own ego (in her words, "I'm afraid the only way Steele notices anyone is if they're wearing a mirror"). As pups they might have been friends, but as adults, his only concern about Jenna was her body, her DNA, and maybe having her for himself. The real Jenna, the one inside, was about as significant to him as your average rock. Balto's presence in the picture would have changed the part about not wanting Balto to have her, obviously, but the rest... trust me, I took psychology. He'd be just as shallow without Balto involved as he was with him there.

Who knows, maybe that's how things might still have been if Balto wasn't in the mix. But that's the only way I can see that happening.
