:Steele!: gasped the small brown wolfdog, wagging his tail in eager anticipation and bandying up to the dark dog. :It's been forever! Where have you been?:
:Oh, I know!: replied the dog, tongue lo1ling happily out of his small mouth between words. :I've been--:
:Steele!:
Both pups looked up at the source of their sharp interruption. A larger dog--an adult female--strode up to the two, head held high and thin, brown eyes gazing down in condescension. She eyed her son, the dark pup, and then more suspiciously the brown one he'd so eagerly scampered to. A shiver of disgust shook her body as she caught the mixture of scents coming off it--a bit of husky, but also wolf. A pitiful homeless mutt.
:Come along, Steele,: she bantered, shooing her son to her other side, away from the wolfdog pup. :We don't associate with...his kind.: Her tone was low and grumbly and her last two words were quietly spat. Steele looked desperately at his friend, unsure of what his mother meant. He even raised a paw in thought of rejoining the pup regardless, but he thought better of it.
Balto, the wolfdog pup, sat down and watched in confusion as the large dog strutted away, herding his friend along with her, Steele's head and tail drooping in disappointment.
Neither knew that their relationship would never be the same.

Mreh. Just a plotbunny that's been in my head for a while now that may yet turn into a fanfic. Giving Steele some more explained reasons to detest Balto and vice-versa.
Sorry about using colons instead of quotation marks; the website filters out the quotation marks for some ridiculous reason that I cannot comprehend and I needed SOMETHING to distinguish the dialogue.
Also sorry for the 1 in the word :lo1ling:. If I don't put it there, the obnoxious auto-emoticons turn it into this: lolling. >:/
