Yup. Sooo, I got bored and decided to try my hand at making some parents for Steele.
Both parents were championship racers. Steele, along with others, was the result of a "breeding" between the two arranged by the humans in hopes of making more champion dogs--they weren't necessarily "mates" as we would call, say, Balto and Jenna.
The idea of Balto's father once holding the "golden collar" seems to be a popular notion around here. But I like to wonder...why not Steele's father? So here we have him, Cobalt, proudly sporting his "prize". Unlike his son, Cobalt wasn't a bully whatsoever. He was a genuinely friendly and caring dog who was very supportive of his team. While he did have a bit of a competitive streak and loved to win, he was generally a good sport when he lost and preferred words of encouragement to anger. He was dead-set in his values and most of the other dogs respected him. To run on his team was a privilege.
Being such a good racer and well-behanved among the humans, Cobalt fathered many litters over his life. Steele was in the last; Cobalt died of natural causes (exact cause undecided) at the age of 14, when Steele was about 1 or so.
Then we have the mother, Esmerelda (sometimes called simply "Ez".) Ez was also known for being fast and clever and she ran on many championship teams, though she never took the lead position as Cobalt so often did. She was also, however, very prideful and boastful. She rarely passed by an opportunity to brag about her team's latest win. She took a great amount of pride at her pedigree and tended to look down on dogs who were not purebreds like herself, whether or not they were all dog. She tended to think herself better than they and preferred not to associate with mixed breeds/mutts or even simple crossbreeds (imagine how she felt about Balto being half wolf!); it is partially through her influence that Steele got his distaste for wolves and for Balto.
Sooo yeah. That's all I've got right now. Not sure yet whether or not I want to make pages for them...we'll see.
