I think he just said that he doesn't believe the white wolf to be
Balto's mom or dad. And the white wolf was never meant to be Balto's
parent in the first movie. So I'm just saying that it was never
confirmed which one of Balto's parents was a wolf and dog. At least
for the first movie. Anyways I also headcanoned Balto's dad to be a wolf, much like yours I included them in an old image of mine -

You still continue to insult me? My English is normal. Not perfect,
but normal. Now you just try to provoke and to insult. Again. What's a
point even to talk with you after this?! Oh yeah, they were never mentioned in the original film (maybe they were mentioned on pre-production or in the deleted/alternate scenes like the dream sequence with the owl). We knew about them nothing, and the authors made Balto as a wolfdog, 'cause they just wanted to give him a conflict. The scene with Steele's insult was mentioned, 'cause some people like to use it as a proofs or something like this. Yes, it's Simon's opinion and his idea, so what's problem? He has taken part in the creating of the original film, so he can do this. I can say the same thing about the White Wolf. It's just Simon's opinion and his version that the White Wolf can be a metaphor of Balto's wolf half, Balto's father, the spirit or just a lone male wolf. At least, his opinion and his version have much more sense than the entire psychedelic nonsense of Wolf Quest with the magic wolves and weird spirits from nowhere. And I know that the White Wolf and Aniu are two different characters. Is it so important? It's just a rough drawing and just my opinion. If you dislike this and different opinions, go away. |

You do realize that what you're saying isn't exactly clear, right?
It's not due to the fact that your English isn't clear, but the fact
that what you're saying doesn't add up. One moment you're saying that
Balto's father isn't an arctic wolf, but a grey wolf. Then you turn
around and say that you prefer the first film's theory. Balto's
parents weren't even mentioned in the first film. The idea that
Balto's father is a wolf is purely Simon's personal opinion. There's also the fact that the White Wolf has no connection to Aniu. They're two completely different characters. In the interview that you're referring to, Simon says that they wanted the White Wolf to be mysterious, so it's up to the viewer to decide if the wolf is real or not. In Balto II, Aniu was BASED off of the White Wolf, and was intended to be Balto's mother. |

Troll Berserker, here is the interview with Simon Wells, where he said
about Balto's parents and the White Wolf.
https://www.animationsource.org/balto/en/articles/Exclusive-interview-
with-Balto-director-/258868.html&id_film=10 Well, the original film itself never supposed Balto's mom as a wolf (and never supposed the White Wolf as Balto's parent). Steele's insult never stated that Balto's mom was a wolf. If he said "I've got a message FROM your mother... Aarrhoooo!", it would be the proof that she is a wolf. But Steele says that he HAS a message FOR his mother. It is just a joke on her relationships with a wolf. Steele knew about Balto nothing, he just wanted to insult him. Plus, huskies howl too, and the fact that it's the 20s of the 20 century, the joke about the "lady" (dog), which has a child from the "wild barbarian"(wolf), really has sense and becomes more vulgar (something like "Your mother ran with a wolf! Maybe she'll run to us, if we'll howl?" Thanks. Yeah, father-dog kinda resembles the real Balto ![]() |

What, was it said anywhere that Balto's mom was supposed to be a
dog? Also nice designs. I like how the dog father resembles a real life Balto. |
I think, for the authors it wasn't matter, who is the wolf and who is a dog in Balto's family. They even didn't planned this. Maybe later we'll see some storyboards with the deleted scenes (like Steele's death), but now we know only Simon's vision and opinion (among all people, who worked on the original film). And his version with dog-mother and wolf-father works: why Balto is among the humans and dogs, why he avoids the wolves and etc. Realistic and logical.
I imagined Balto's wolf-father as a strict, morose and harsh loner with the big experience, the noble fighter. While Balto's mother-dog is kind, careful, brave, funny and strong dog (like Balto himself).
Wow, really great drawing, unique
