Of course, not every wolf would have some kind of thing against dogs
(Aniu and Nava are examples) but Niju certainly left me with the
impression that, yeah, wolves don't like dogs. Besides, I don't see it
as such an irrational thing to imagine. If the dogs of Nome fear
wolves enough to mock Balto, then some kind of mutual dislike towards
dogs must exist amongst the local wolf population. Or else Balto would
join a pack quite happily. That's what I believe anyway. There have
been far stranger fan theories. and I wrote that description a year ago. I held some desire to have Kodi be similar to the official Kodi but now that's kind of been scratched out. As for 'when he was told', the pups all found out at the same time because Balto couldn't exactly tell what went down during the Serum Run without mentioning his heritage at the same time (as it was his instincts that got him back in the first place). The whole 'he still got picked on for his heritage' that was touched upon in Balto 2 doesn't exist in this AU and especially not his fear of his heritage (if that's not a big contradiction from the White Wolf scene in the first movie, I don't know what is). In this AU, Balto is the town hero and the town is grateful for his actions, like they are in Balto 3. |

That makes a little more sense, but if bigotry toward dogs were
intrinsic in wolves (and vice-versa), then one would expect
considerable differences in the material. There's also still the
implied contradiction of exactly when Kodi found out. Also, how is it that Kodi wants to impress his friends if his friends are dogs and he looks down on dogs? |

He doesn't look down on 'others', he looks down on DOGS. I'm sort of
nodding towards Niju's attitude towards 'mutts' and it gave me an idea
that most wolves in the Balto universe don't view dogs very highly.
It's an instinct brought on by his wolf heritage, rather than
something he can help and this makes him an outcast (so the situation
with Balto but kinda reversed, if you get me). He wants to be 'normal'
in the sense that he's not torn between being a wolf and being a dog.
He just wants to be one of the two and not both. |

I'm confused. If he just wants to be normal, why does he look down on
others? Also, the text attached to the image itself implies that his
heritage itself is news to him at the time of the conversation
implied. |

DT - In my AU universe, Kodi, Aleu and the others DO know about their
wolf heritage. Aleu is quite proud of it and throws it about at every
opportunity because she is the only one who looks like her father.
Kodi, on the other hand, is extremely anti-social and looks down on
dogs somewhat. Balto tries to pull him down with what happened during
the Serum Run and that's when Kodi lashes out at him. Basically, Kodi
doesn't run away because he finds out he's part wolf, he runs away
because he feels like he doesn't belong in Nome and that nobody
understands him. |

On the "forgets" part, it's safe to assume that if Kodi didn't know
about his own wolf heritage up to that point, he wouldn't know that
his dad used to be an outcast for that same heritage. In artistic terms, though, I like this. A little too narrow in the face, maybe, but the eyes are rather striking. |
As for the matter of bigotry being intrinsic, it was the only logical reason I could think of for someone raised by a dad who respected dogs and a mom who was a dog around friends who all were dogs to look down his nose at dogs (yes, I realize that's long-winded and repetitive, but you get my point). I'll grant that there are fan theories which make less sense still, but in general a lack of sense is a bad thing in a fan theory, so that's not really a good defense.
In any event, it's nice to see (at least) that you treat your ideas as works in progress.
